Final Fantasy general

Why?

We should be glad FF doesn't touch incest at all. Like Serah has a husband, Alisae from XIV is too busy swooning over the Warrior of Light, and Yuna and Riku aren't into each other.

And we have Brother, who is treated like a sicko and even kicked by Riku.

You can step all over Brother after the first mission.

I barely remember X-2 anyway.

Except for, i don't like your plan, it sucks.

X-2 is fun and good. At least, when you're not worrying about percentage points. Shame that so many cutscenes are hidden behind missable content, though. There's absolutely no excuse for the cutscene where Shuyin jumps from Nooj to Baralai being optional to view.

Also, related to VII-R, there's a cutscene where Sephiroth tells Cloud to protect the Planet because all of both of their favorite things are there. Like Cloud's extremely flammable hometown, his mom's pleas for mercy, and her body that can fit a lot of katana into it.

I've always been intrigued by Sephiroth x Aerith. One of the first fanfics I ever read was about the ship. It could work in an AU where Sephiroth isn't killed at Nibelheim. He'd doubtless go looking for answers at Shinra and find out about Aerith and then go see her. Then you start a romance/redemption story building on Sephiroth no longer feeling lonely as he's found a fellow Cetra. Only he later learns he isn't one and you build on the drama of that.

If I could be bothered to write it and had any talent, I'd try it. But it sounds fun in my head.

Aerith's body, contrary to popular belief, can't fit that much katana.

Though I suppose using Sephiroth as an example is a bit unfair.

A good!Sephiroth is an interesting concept, but

• he doesn't go nuts at Nibelheim
• The inspection of the reactor goes fine
• Cloud continues to hide from Tifa?
• Zack... struggles to uphold Angeal's philosophy and eventually quits to go merc or something or maybe hooks up with Aerith again?

The plot's kind of shot without Sephiroth going cray-cray.

But he was talking about Claudia, not Aerith!

No Cloud x Buster sword is the one true pairing.

I don't know who this Claudia is but they sound clumsy and likely to die in some apocalyptic arson scenario.

I dunno. I think a rough sequence of events to keep it somewhat similar could be:

• Zack becomes increasingly disillusioned with Shinra and leaves due to only countless other things, including what happened with Angeal and Genesis, and still gets killed since the squad sent to kill him didn't really have anything to do with Sephiroth
• Hojo still experiments on Cloud and Zack, and since Zack's death is largely the same Cloud's schizophrenia and other issues remain.
• Shinra itself keeps center stage as the primary antagonists, and in fact simply send Sephiroth after the party as a loyal and exceptionally powerful still-living Soldier 1st class, who has much more of an on-screen presence and who taunts Cloud about what he thinks is true here and there.
• He still kills Aerith, but not because she's trying to summon Holy, moreso because while he hasn't gone nuts, he did still have his library deep dive and knows all about how powerful and important Cetra are.
• The environmental subplot takes center stage as Shinra does something fairly cataclysmic with the Sister Ray that awakens the Weapons - rather than some barrier covering North Crater, they try to destroy another city, or something, which has massive collateral damage and leads to the crater being uncovered.
• Hojo and Sephiroth team up to harvest vast Mako reserves from the Crater, and Hojo's increasingly mutated forms effectively take the place of Jenova both there and throughout the game.
• The ending loses its ambiguity since there's no impeding threat of an apocalypse, and its environmental messages are made more overt.

What we got was better than this fan-ficcy nonsense but there you go

No, no, like I said, I think "good!Sephiroth" has merit, and having him still be an antagonist is actually pretty neat. Although if I were to go further with it?

• Zack becoming disillusioned with Shinra due to numerous other issues with their "collapse a giant plate on top of countless innocent people" style of business.
• Cloud's issues remain, and he still goes to Midgar, and Hojo is still a bastard
• Do Hojo and Sephiroth have any interaction? Isn't Hojo his dad or something? Ifalna-whatsherface is his mom and Hojo kidnapped her... she was the daughter of Gast or something but Hojo kidnapped her and yeah. I feel like Seph-dog would feel some kind of way about that. Let's assume he didn't.
• Sephiroth gets sent to stop AVALANCHE and they -laugh track- yeah they die.
• But, wait, Cloud is there! He actually cuts Sephiroth down in a twist ending! Sephiroth gets a neat looking chest scar and, for some reason, mutates and black wings start growing out of his back. Yeah I don't know. For some reason Seph-dog isn't there for the prologue mission. I mean, it's the prologue mission. Maybe he only kills Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie which forces Cloud, Tifa, and Barrett to lead the next mission.
• I guess if Sephiroth showed up it'd probably be in Air Buster's place. He'd be there with Prez Shinra. Cloud and co get out of it relatively unscathed. That sounds tough you say? It's actually super easy, barely an inconvenience. At least until Cloud falls into the Sector 8 Slums because Sephiroth pushes him or... impales Cloud and flings him off the bridge while Tifa and Barrett flee.
• Cloud would still meet Aerith but... let's assume Sephiroth doesn't gank AVALANCHE and they still try to stop Shinra from dropping the plate. Would Shinra even bother if they still had Sephiroth around? Let's assume they do.
• He'd DEFINITELY show up to plant the bomb. Probably cut down Cloud, maybe recognize Zack's sword but probably not care, Cloud and co escape and head to Shinra HQ. He'd probably be there and capture Aerith.
• Sephiroth would be there and capture them, probably interrogate Cloud on why he has Angeal's sword. Notice how this sword keeps switching owners. Maybe Cloud's schizophrenia get triggered early? Does it even affect him without Sephiroth or Jenova flexing their influence?
• I'd assume that Hojo would try to get Sephiroth to bang Aerith. No idea if Sephiroth would go for that. Aerith finding out he's a Cetra, and vice versa, maybe he'd try to save her?
• Then he'd save Aerith and probably AVALANCHE and probably put a katana in Prez Shinra's back, leaving Sephiroth without a sword and forced to manhandle Shinra security forces the rest of the way.
• Sephiroth joins Cloud's party while they escape from Shinra HQ. I'd have to wonder if seeing JENOVA in Hojo's lab would affect Sephiroth at all if the "library deep dive" or the revelation at Nibelheim didn't.

Eh. Screw it. Anything to get Sephiroth willingly helping the party out. I will write up a more serious outline for this and get back.

Oh boy was I wrong. Lucretia was Sephiroth's mom. She and Vincent seemed to have a good relationship but she picked Dr. Shou Tucker von Frankenstein. There's no direct relation between Sephiroth and Aerith - just Sephiroth's delusion about being Cetra.

Lucretia and Hojo injected Sephiroth with the Super Soldier Bishounen Serum.

I don't know how Sephiroth would respond to Aerith in a scenario where he's not gone off the deep end.

I'm tellin' ya, a redemption love story is the way to go. He goes cray-cray at Nibelheim but he doesn't die. Instead he finds Aerith and she helps restore his humanity.

And I have no idea what happens after that. He probably already demolished Shinra when he goes to them looking for answers and finds out about Aerith. The only real antagonist in this story is Sephiroth himself and maybe Jenova.

No, the only way to go is complete incineration at the molecular level.

I could go with love story or even a Like Brother and Sister relationship with Aerith. Mostly because I do think if he didn't turn evil then he would have some sort of deep relationship with her, since she is Gast's daughter.

The only thing stronger than love is hate.

The one good lesson Nickelodeon was lucky enough to find.

I'd like to point out that Cloud x Sephiroth is usually based on the fact that Cloud did indeed look up to Sephiroth quite a bit in a Hero Worship kind of way. Like the Good!Sephiroth ideas above the pairing usually averts the Nibelheim incident.
