Because Kinkajou told me to.

So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?

My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.

I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Beatrix is a weird character. Like she doesn't get half of the development Steiner has to go through but reaches the conclusion quicker after spending most of her screentime beforehand being pretty despicable. I feel it would have worked better if Steiner turned on Brahne before her and his act of defiance and challenging her for Garnet's sake over that of the Queens inspiring her own Heel–Face Turn instead would have done wonders for both of their characters. [lol]

I bought it pretty well because I feel like watching your queen nuke a city would make you start thinking "are we the baddies?" right quick.

Yeah, and then, when meeting again the ones trying to stop said queen, beat them into a pulp AGAIN and claim you'll "destroy all enemies of Alexandria".

SUPER works.

Also, someone earlier said Quina is a good comic relief. He/She isn't.

Quina has one joke. He/She is hungry and wants to eat things. Usually things that are gross or that people don't want Him/Her to eat. That's it. That's all of Quina's jokes. It's not funny the first time, it's not funny the last time.

Steiner has more legitimately funny scenes. From his fascination with stinky pickles to his constantly being put upon by Garnet and Zidane to his treating Vivi like he's a seasoned, wise archmage when Vivi's not even a year old and knows nothing about anything. And Steiner manages to be engaging through all this.

you'll "destroy all enemies of Alexandria".

Meh, I see it as more of a battle cry. Like, she's a soldier, what else is she gonna say. Plus at that point she thinks they are kidnapping Garnet (Zorn and Thorn having told her that)

Not to mention that Steiner actually becomes likeable after ditching his loyalty to Brahne.

[up][up] I said Quina was decent comic relief. Good is pushing it.

You’re right about Steiner being funnier and also being an actual character.

Quina marrying Vivi is the funniest scene in the game.

Until you realize that Vivi died and Quina is now a widow. sad

It would if her reaction to the nuking wasn't complaining that she didn't get to reap the glory and that the Queen used her Eidolon's when she was more then enough to put down the filthy rats. [lol]

[up][up] I kinda do? I mean, AFAIK Black Mages don't breed. So the idea he found a way to make more of his race, and maybe give them a longer lifespan would be cool.

Her reaction is that the filthy black mages stole the glory and that her troops had this. Not the Eidolon.

I mean

either way, she's way more concerned about not getting credit at first and not so much with the fact that she was complacent in a city being wiped off the face of the earth.

Some people say Quina is the Jar Jar Binks of Final Fantasy.

S/he sounds like a good candidate.

Quina isn't it obnoxious enough to be Jar Jar. The only character I could maybe say fits that bill is Cait Sith? Even then, that's just Reeve role-playing as a Scottish cat in a world without Scotland.

Cait Sith is also mostly skippable. You can just leave his dumb ass in the back bench.

It's kinda funny how many of the FF 7 cast do... fuck all for the plot.

Cid's mostly around and later drives the airship. Yuffie and Vincent have both been discussed. Cait Sith except for that one scene where he gets to save everyone... Even Red XIII, when you leave Cosmo Canyon, sort of becomes completely irrelevant.

I mean everyone uses an American accent otherwise and there isn't a United States either.

[up] Sshhhhh, we're not supposed to remind Americans that they have accents too and that their manner of speaking doesn't constitute default English.

There's worse. Can always be Cyan who has an accent his own family doesn't share.

That because Cyan's a samurai, and so in Japanese he speaks usuing archaic phrasing associated with samurai characters and movies, and they weren't sure how to translate that into English.

Oh right. And Chocobo Hot and Cold is the only good way to get Ethers for a while. I remember during my early playthroughts there were quite a few times where only had 5 or 6 in my inventory and almost no one had any magic.

Took me a while to realize I needed to play that game more often.

Yuffie is cool and my friend.

Also, Chocobo Hot and Cold is good, but I hate pixel hunting for that one spot that has the treasure and wasting all of my time. Also, the first visit to Chocobo Reef sucks.

Chocobo hot and cold is one of the many FF minigames that can go die in a fire. Alongside any of the card games, and Blitzball.
