Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

Probably would still happen. FFX-2 was technically a Squaresoft game.

It occurs to me that Spirits within was Spirit Bomb
Dohohoho

New theme music also a boxIt DID have phantoms after all.
Does anyone know what were the circumstances behind the merger? I suspect that Squaresoft would had been shut down or something......
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"From what I've heard, the merger had been planned since 2000, but Spirits Within came along and delayed it.
Look Square did the merger cause they thought it give them a big boost resource wise
I mean people bring up the merger as if a sudden influx of NEW staff poisoned Final Fantasy!
when in reality its pretty much been the same old Square blood... If you got a problem with FF take it up with the guys who work on it.
Square took a hit from the loss sure 'Bad enough they had to ask Sony to buy stock for a shot in the arm ' but Remember 2001-2002 would be the back to back juggernaught releases of FFX and KH 'which I believe was Square's strongest year ever'

I'm A Pervert not an Asshole! Not only was it still mostly the same people, but despite Square being in a worse financial position than Enix at the time it was mostly Square officials who took the high positions, the president of Square became the president of Square Enix for example.

Pretty sure if the original FFXIV was published by Squaresoft it would still get shitty reviews.
Maybe. I liked X-2's and Tactics classes. They felt in-tune with the rest of the franchise. White Mage, Gunner, Summoners, Dark Knights, etc. But then XIII railroads you with Ravager, Medic, Sentinel, Saboteur, and it's like "what poor excuse for a job system is this supposed to be?" I know the early parts of this game are more urban than traditional fantasy but come the heck on.
I also really hate the idea of letting the AI control your party members in real-time and I loath the dev who signed off on that design choice.
Also only Noel could kill Caius for good, I think.
And as for a JRPG about destroying the world...Shin Megami Tensei IV.
I suppose. It's just that I would've liked XIII-3 to have not focused on Lightning and making Noel's quest in XIII-2 seem as futile. I guess he still got more than the rest of the cast did, but it feels like they knew LR was going to be about Lightning so making XIII-2 about Noel and Serah utterly failing in their mission seems odd.
Never played Shin Megami Tensei. My only interest in that franchise was that Dante was apparently in it.
I mean, Eidolons seemed to have stopped being at thing by the time of XIII-2. Because, yeah, everybody just learns magic all of a sudden i dont know xiii's setting just does what it wants
I also don't think the real world has monsters roaming around in the wilderness with diets that consist of, but aren't limited to ancient weaponry, respiratory organs, and magic potions of varying sorts.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Just for shits and giggles, what if FFVII came out after a certain day in 2001?
It would have been so tonally different, it would be unrecognizable compared to how it is. The opening act is blowing up government property, after all.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit. He had a lot of stuff you wouldn't expect him to have. Like Animal Crossing: Wild World. And the Devil May Cry anime.

He was holded up in a compound with a load of other people, the games and videos were for the kids
New theme music also a boxYeah, I know. I only brought it up because FFVII being in there wasn't anything weird in the context of everything else.
He was also apparently an Arsenal FC fan, and Aaron Ramsey, an Arsenal midfielder with a weird tendency to score goals right before the death of a famous person, scored a goal the day before the raid that bin Laden died in.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit. You mean public ennemies actually enjoy the things we do ?
Oh god what do I do
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."I dunno man I hear Hitler ate sugar
New theme music also a boxIf Al-Qaeda is AVALANCHE, then that means Shinra is the United States.
Also, Sector 7 was an inside job.
AVALANCHE is Greenpeace with guns.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Yeah, I know. Couldn't help it.
I hear that weird FFVII mobile game about the Turks that nobody played has the origin of AVALANCHE? And they weren't so good back then before I guess Barret and co. took over.

In Record Keeper I picked up Alphinaud's Chain Soul Break, Glint and Legend Materia today, to bad about not getting his second Ultimate otherwise I would have everyone of his relics I think? Also got me Thancred's USB 2 which is great because my Earth damage could use some help!
You mean Before Crisis?
