Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

The last good Final Fantasy was VI, naturally.
Or maybe the truth is that no FF was ever good and they're all super overrated. The best JRPG is...uh, Suikoden II? Or maybe some JRPG nobody ever heard of and was only fan translated? There are those edgy JRPG fans who hate FF for being the face of the genre, ya know. I used to be one when I was much younger.

How could you forget Chrono Trigger?!
FF basically got more scrutinized the moment FF 7 became mainstream due to its massive modern marketing "IE you bought a ps1 for ff7"
VII success brought a mass influx of interest in the JRPG genre
Basically the PS 2 era of every JRPG got ported over here due to the success of FF on the ps1 era
Hilariously this lead to certain series getting their Big over seas break but then basically hit their peak' looks at Star Ocean,'
The real issue is ever since XIII, SE has been plagued by very real staffing issues, mismanagement and well There is kinda this very burnt out sense of creativity in the game worlds like there isn't that much love in it. "Hell They reuse the Cid Raynes fight concept TWO TIMES
They've had staff issues since XII - that took six years to make.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.I know! Chrono Trigger is a game in the nineties...for SNES.
Square Enix really needs to get their heads together, it is really affecting their projects and they need to catch up.
"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."
I don't remember when XII was concrete announced but yes it was late... by then Final Fantasy came out about 2 to 3 years apart
However I counter that XII development issues was less to do with gross mismanagement or the like but SE basically suffering an implosion from their Golden age success on the PS and X being the Ps 2 gateway drug
Spirits within bombing and losing that entire studio in a suck cost
XI being an MMO 'even if rather successful later on' had obvious management and development growing pains
and the the fact they did the first proper sequel to an FF Game X-2

I found Type-0 to be pretty horrible all-round, but at least it's a bit more recognisable as a Final Fantasy game.
I don't think I'll ever replay XIII, but I don't recall being constantly frustrated at every turn with it like I was on XV. Not until end/post-game stuff anyway, and XIII-2 refined it enough that I actually like the battle system.
I've seen some people defend Type-O but the consensus, if any, seems to be "mediocre".
Type-0 is Tabata at his emotional torque-iest, which is saying something coming off of Crisis Core.
Killing underdeveloped characters left and right, including one dude and his chocobo at the very start of the game, to get a reaction seems to be his favorite thing to do.

You can make an audience feel for the death of someone they haven't known for a long time, you just have to be good/efficient. The beginning of Finding Nemo is one example.
The biggest turn-off for me about Type-0 is the ridiculously convoluted combat.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Plus the game throwing massively overpowered monsters at you from pretty much the first mission. Also the insane level grinding you need to do just to keep everyone in pace with each other. Not to mention how ridiculously unforgiving the game is in general.
I must be the only wacko that actually enjoys Nintendo Hard.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...I'm pretty sure they're describing Fake Difficulty.
What turned me off of Type-0 was the bad writing in general and the obnoxious main duo.
Whenever I hear someone say something positive about FFXIII, I wonder whether or not I'm in an alternate universe. Just sounds so surreal to me.
You'll understand when you're older.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.I remember trying Final Fantasy 13 mostlye because I don't care much for the series' infamous Unpleasable Fanbase, so I thought the hate against it was exaggerated and wanted to form my own opinion. Then I hated it way, way more than the average unpleasable fan.

You: "Fuck those guys, I'll play this game and love it!"
Three hours later.
You: "I HAVE MADE A TERRIBLE ERROR!"
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I think "hate" is a pretty harsh word. Game devs don't go out of their way to piss you off.
There are games that made me ragequit but I wouldn't say I hate them.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.I hate almost no video games. The few I do hate I hate because I went in with huge expectations, like Metal Gear Solid 4 or Xenosaga Episode II. Otherwise, even with bad games, I can usually find things to enjoy about them.
Like, I'm currently replaying the worst FF, VIII. This is like my...I dunno, fifth or sixth run of the game even as I will happily tear everything about it to shreds.
Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. What do you think of the idea?
@FF 'hate'
I once bought into that so called hate for FFXIII but I guess I got older and wiser time, I realized that the game isn't that bad. I may not always agreed with a lot of decisions made by Square Enix but I guess I warmed up to some games in that era.
Only if they make him a different character from Cloud.

"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."
Nah. To me it was a truer Final Fantasy than XV could ever manage to be. That was quite a feat for a game made on such a limited hardware as the PSP.
And, in a generation where The Overworld started to just not exist and we had quite a lot of monorail stories, Type-0 was quite refreshing in comparison to XIII forcing you to immediately finish the game and XV and its false openness.
EDIT: I summon my Stand, THE PAGE TOPPER!!
