Dingo Pictures Cleanup

Creator.Dingo Pictures is baffling. It's a creator page, but it's set up like and has subpages like a work page. I thought the list of movies would be subpages, but no, instead it redirects to the actual works that they are mockbusting.

The result is a very messy page with examples for several different movies all crammed into a creator page.

I was considering handling it alone, but cleaning it up without wiping out most of the page will be a disaster.

At the very least, I think it would be a good idea to sandbox most of the example list and everything except the Trivia page, and move them all into appropriate pages for the actual movies themselves.

This reminds me that I've been wanting to make pages for some actual Dingo Pictures productions. Because why not? It could help with this cleanup effort.

I think I'll kick it off by moving the contents of the subpages to sandboxes (except Trivia, which we can save to move onto the main creator page when it's eventually ready for it.)

Having pages for the actual work would be excellent, we can migrate the examples straight from the page for them.

Sweet. I'll look through the examples later and see where I should start; I should be able to get at least three tropes just going on memory, so the hard part would be the description and stuff probably... and figuring out titles, since these works are notoriously inconsistent.

Their movie Dinosaur Adventure has a page already, but it's in the Animation namespace. Shouldn't it be Western Animation?

I think so. Western Animation claims that it covers cartoons that were made in Western Europe, and Germany is usually considered a part of Western Europe (at least since its reunification).

They denied my request to cut the pages, guess I'll try again later once we get around to migrating things.

Dingo's version of Hunchback of Notre Dame has a number of tropes on the main page. Would that be worth making a page out of?

Hunchback it is. I'll make it in a sandbox first because I'm not sure what the title is, but yeah, I can do something with that. (Maybe revisit Phelous's review if need be but I can remember it well enough on my own anyway.)

The original German title looks to be Der Glöckner von Notre Dame, though that seems to just be the standard German translation of the original book's title.

I actually have a list of the Hunchback related trope entries from the main Creator page in another document, along with an unfinished work description. I can create the Sandbox using that if you want.

If you want; I have work to do right now so I can't jump on the project immediately. I'm happy to go through and add new content to an established sandbox if that's how we want to play it.

I went ahead and made a Sandbox. I put folders for a few of the most frequently troped movies, though as of this posting, Hunchback is the only one with content.

Huh, I think that's enough to warrant an immediate split off once the title confusion is resolved.

It looks like Dingo's English dub of Hunchback was released in as a VHS just called Notre Dame, and also as a PS1 game called Hunchback of Notredame.

So tropes could either go on WesternAnimation.Notre Dame or WesternAnimation.Hunchback Of Notredame Dingo Pictures.

I also added some tropes for Aladin.

I'll vote for Notre Dame just so we don't need to worry about the disambig stuff, but that's just me.

An ATT came up regarding Vídeo Brinquedo, which, like Dingo Pictures, has problems.

I was wondering if this cleanup could be broadened to be a general "Mockbuster cleanup", given the complaining and other problems present in general on mockbuster pages. Good idea, or bad idea?

Maybe. The mockbuster companies in general are huge complaining magnets, and a lot of the initial problems brought up with the Dingo page are also applicable.

A few movies from the likes of Video Brinquedo and Spark Plug already have standalone pages, so they have more progress than Dingo in that regard. Just from a quick glance, I'm noticing that the Video Brinquedo and Spark Plug Creator pages have tropes from some of the movies that already have dedicated pages.

Like I said on that thread I'd prefer the other creators get their own threads just to avoid cluttering this one.

Not to be rude, but at this rate, the thread doesn't have to worry about getting cluttered.

Regardless, such concerns probably depend on how many mockbuster companies there are to focus on. The aforementioned Spark Plug and Video Brinquedo already have a few pages for some of their most well-known movies, so I don't think that including those two would be that big of an increase in scope. I was about to worry about what would happen if we tried to throw The Asylum in as well, but from a quick glance at their Creator page, it doesn't seem to have the same "troping all the movies at once" issues that Dingo's page does. At least, nowhere near as rampant.

There's also Bevanfield Films, which is probably the most similar to Dingo in terms of sheer, er... "quality".

Anyway, I got some time today so I'll see about making the Hunchback page.

I'm a bit surprised Bevanfield even has a page. The page itself definitely has a lot in common with the the Dingo one.

Also, I checked out the pages for Goodtimes Entertainment and Golden Films. The Goodtimes page actually doesn't have any tropes or subpages, so that one's fine.

Golden Films has a lot of pages for their movies already, but it does still have subpages and a trope list on the Creator page. In terms of completeness, it's more on par with the Spark Plug and Brinquedo pages.
