As an upstate New Yorker myself, I want to be biased and say that the aversions are notable...
...But realistically, they probably aren't. It's true that people stereotype our entire state as just being the city, but I don't think "Someone mentions Buffalo" is a meaningful thing to point out.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessActually, that trope page is just for New York City, ironically. Big Applesauce is more for the state/America in general.
Really? Big Applesauce to me isn't "New York City is the only New York", but "everything happens in New York City / New York is a City of Adventure".
If that's not what you were saying, then I missed your point entirely.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessBig Applesauce is for "Everything happens in New York" but it kind of comes across as "the only place in the US that matters" I think.
Regardless, New York Is Only Manhattan was the subject of this thread, and it's definitely about NYC.
I agree with Jay on this. Aversions aren’t really notable here. I’m from the Lower Hudson Valley of NY, an area no one remembers exists unless it’s about politics or the Headless Horseman, and someone mentioning my area still isn’t exactly notable, per se.
Next question: are there enough examples to warrant this being a trope? And if not is this a possible TRS candidate?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI didn’t wick check it, but it’s possible. I suspect it’s an issue of “missing related tropes” but I’m not sure what they would be.
At least some of the usage that isn't already there can be moved to UsefulNotes.New York State (which is a lot of fun to read if you're a resident ).

Obviously not an omnipresent trope, but looking at the page for New York Is Only Manhattan, many of the examples are aversions. I was looking for an example, but it would be an aversion.
Is this trope common enough to list aversions or does it need major cleanup?
