Yu Gi Oh Card Game Character Sheets Cleanup

Just today I had to clean-up two attempts to re-add tropes that were already deleted. YGO players can't read is a meme for a reason. I think that adding specific tropes that are not supposed to be added to the pages can help, we can't keep re-deleting examples because that would count as edit warring and we would risk a ban.

Yeah, makes sense. I recommend Horus the Black Flame Dragon be deleted as he only has three gameplay-only tropes, one other card appearance besides his (Level Up!) and like three anime appearances.

Should all the HERO sub-archetypes be put on their own page together? I mean like what was done with Six Samurai, Skull Servant, etc.

[up]I have been considering it. It would definitely save us a lot of space in the other pages and would allow us to cover individual characters (like Neos) more properly, and even give Neo-Spacians their own folder (along with Chrysalis).

I'm gonna say "yes". Just need to put it on the "Others" section, as the group doesn't have some storyline of their own we can follow, and indicate that this was only done because of the length of the folders together. Also that anime-only tropes not referenced on the game should be covered on the GX anime page instead.

^ I was also thinking the same could be done with the Number monsters considering there's a lot of them too (and the Numeron, Utopia, and arguably CXyz series by extension). Idk if you'd also be able to do it with the Signer Dragons/Duel Dragons as well, and/or the Dimension Dragons (and the Odd-Eyes and Supreme King/Z-ARC series by extension). Other candidates could be the Egyptian Gods and/or Sacred Beasts too, but all of these are just suggestions.

[up] Yeah I agree that a Numbers folder should be added too. However, I think out of the Number-based archetypes only "Utopia" should be added to that folder, considering its deep association with the archetype. Gimmick Puppet, Heraldic, Chronomaly, Trains, etc., should keep their own folders and their associated Numbers in there, I don't want to set a precedent to group all anime-based cards under a single character page just because they were a plot device in a single series.

[nja]'d in the "Utopia" mention, yeah, the Numeron CXyz archetype should be added too, considering that a good part of its length is about Barian Hope, NASH Knight and its upgrade. This would also remove a lot of duplicate tropes.

[up] The Signer Dragons and Dimensional Dragons wouldn't require a page of their own because they don't really occupy that much space. I made a character count for them and they barely occupy a tenth of the length all the HERO pages do, and (before clean-up) a minimal fraction of the "Numbers" folder alone.

I'm against a page for the Sacred Beasts, as the length of the folder is only the result of a single troper wanting to be extremely specific with YGO's game mechanics, engaging on Walkthrough Mode and a ton of metagame troping. We didn't want to remove everything they added, however.

I'm against an Egyptian God page... for the time being. These cards routinely get support every year nowadays, so it's only a matter of time until we get an actual archetype that supports them, and then we can split them off.

So, on the Skull Servant page, the Outstanding Dog Marron folder is part of said page because of his adoption by said family as Skull Dog Marron. However, there's Mad Dog of Darkness which is a corrupted Dog Marron and Outstanding Dog Mary who explicitly only supports Outstanding Dog Marron and not the Skull Dog form. Should we make a note of this?

Also, Umi, Daedalus, the Legendary Fisherman and the upgraded Mako Tsunami cards were merged on the grounds that most of them use Umi or a card that treats its name as Umi. However, not all of them use Umi such as The Legendary Fisherman III and the folder just looks kinda clunky to me.

[up] In the Outstanding Dog page I added Dog Mary because it pertains to Dog Marron's lore (Mad Dog of Darkness and Mecha Dog Marron were already there), even if we don't know their exact relationship and timeline at the moment.

The issue with the Legendary Fisherman folder is that it's otherwise too small and lacks enough characterization tropes on its own without knowing that it's part of Mako's deck in the anime, and then it received cross support with the Umi-supported monsters in Duelist of the Deep. I would personally delete it all, but the issue is that there's legitimate lore in these cards. Maybe make a Mako card folder? But then what would be its name? Kairyu-Shin? Even the Yugipedia page mentions the cards in the Umi page because there really isn't a better way to group them, and saying "Mako Tsunami cards" would look massively out of place.

Got it. Just wondering. Also, should we delete Achilles' Heel and Attack Backfire from the "A" characters page?

[up] I found Attack Backfire to be a fitting replacement for archetypes with shoehorned entries in Hoist by His Own Petard, since it's a super trope to most forms of backfires and the main page definition mentions "This is for when something that is used against a particular character is either beneficial and/or pleasant to that character, or at least perceived by that character as such." So it fits for stuff like Artifact and Abyss Actors which are based around this concept, though I'm willing to debate it.

[up] Oops, apparently I missed a ton of Achilles' Heel misuse in the page. Will fix it ASAP.

I think I found a solution for the Umi page issues, maybe Kairyu Shin and Daedalus could be grouped under an "Ocean Dragon Lord" page, leaving Legendary Fisherman alone on the Umi page.

Yeah, Aroma, @Ignister and several others have Achilles' Heel

[up] Removed it, with the exception of B.E.S and Ignister, as I remembered that the cards were actually enforced as Achilles' Heel on their respective anime. I will make the "Ocean Dragon Lord" folder as soon as possible.

[up] I added the Joke Character and Power Creep entries on that page (Lethal Joke was already there). Admittedly the Power Creep entry was a bit of a stretch, but the Joke Character entry definitely had some basis (much like Ojama, Skull Servant and Goblin Attack Force are seen as Joke Characters). Konami routinely releases cards in the spot 80 of sets which are meant to be "joke" cards and are not privy to using rarities to enforce if something is meant to have some significance, such as making Zushin a Normal Rare as a Mythology Gag to his rarity on the anime (Common).

Er...okay. Sorry. I thought that we only added Joke Character and Lethal Joke Character if they're depicted as that in the lore and given that Dustons aren't depicted as Jokes in their lore (what little they have!), it was grounds for deletion. (Also, replacing the Goblin Attack Force and Goblin of Greed pictures of their card artwork with pictures showing cards depicting them having bad luck is HILARIOUS!)

No problem, their status as a really weak archetype could probably be covered in the opening paragraphs, seeing how the archetype is consistently in the playerbase's collective mind regarding "this concept is cool but Konami ruined it by powercreeping them so badly".

Also, I submit Master of None from the Vehicroid entry for being Metagame with no real evidence in the lore to back it up. I'm also wondering about Glass Cannon for Red-Eyes given that they have Meteor Dragon Red-Eyes Impact to block damage and Return of the Red-Eyes to bring back their monsters. Finally, I submit Vanity's to be deleted on account of much like several others that got deleted (Kunai with Chain, Man-Eater Bug, Mirror Force), it's exclusively gameplay tropes with no lore whatsoever to back it up.

About the Rush Duel cards/characters, I found out that Characters.Yu Gi Oh Rush Duel exists earlier today. Maybe we could reengineer it to fit our needs.

That seems like a good idea. I have been working these days so I haven't had much time to remove tropes and move folders, but I will have a bit of time this weekend.

Speaking of Rush Duel, should we add the Bubble Era monsters? They seem to have plenty of lore.

Also, the Yu-Gi-Oh wiki and Yugipedia tend to have differing translations for Japanese cards. For instance, the first Dian Keto Bubble Era monster is called "Dian Keto the Gold-digging Master" on Yu-Gi-Oh wiki and "Dian Keto the Boogie Master" on Yugipedia and the Change of Heart one is called "Change of Nata de Coco" on Yu-Gi-Oh wiki and "Coconut Changel of Heart" on Yugipedia.

Well, "Dian Keto the Boogie Master" is its offical English name based off the Rush Duel game/English dub of the anime. Though I've noticed they also have different direct translatons of the card name: the wiki uses "Master" while Yugipedia uses "God".
