Poor Image: Murder Into Malevolence

Image is just an intertitle in a different language that needs the caption to translate it.

Yeah, that's not only unillustrative, it's redundant with the page quote.

Murder it.

Pull.

Toss it into malevolence.

Done and tagged.

Bump. Any ideas, or just close?

There's a few that qualify as examples in the movie 13 Ghosts.

This is a combo of a DVD extra on the backstory for "The Hammer" and him attacking a protagonist later. tl;dr is his family was murdered, he exacted revenge, and was later captured and left for dead tied to a tree stump. The townsfolk tortured him with railroad nails being beaten into him with his own sledgehammer, which was later rammed into the hole from where they cut off his hand. The top frame says "Markley left for dead", if that helps.

That works. When I saw it I realised I had never checked what the trope was (I had only briefly checked earlier that yes, the image on the page was text-only), but I was able to guess the trope definition from it.

Thanks, I'd actually re-read the trope a little while ago and so had it fairly fresh in my memory.

I did a little fiddling with the size and increased the pic to 350 width, along a larger crop of the inset text from panel 1 to help readability.

The suggestion seems to illustrate Vengeful Ghost more than this trope (which is a more abstract concept).

Too text-reliant? But the text at least says that she's mad at everyone and not out for revenge against anyone in particular.

I'd say that's better than nothing.

It's a little weak but it works. It could be stronger on showing her murder or being violent. Maybe merge the speech balloons to one panel, and have one where she attacks Antimony just before?

Well, it's going to be hard to avoid at least a little trope overlap in terms of illustration since the "Malevolence" part of this trope is usually a vengeful or at least violent ghost. That said, I do think it shows enough of the "before" given the first panel is him suffering unjust and Disproportionate Retribution.

While I like the original suggestion, I get the problem that it overlaps too much with Vengeful Ghost. The extra panels don't help solving that. If anything, a panel showing him kill multiple people would make it clearer. So far, my vote goes for 10.

Normally I’d try to oblige, but the ghost pictured above has only one on screen kill, and it’s of that guy. The rest are straight up serial killers or lunatics with not much that can be used to portray them as “nice” in life. =/ Thanks for the feedback regardless.
