So, Bi Han was the one who left Jax armless this time? It's kind of turning into a game at this point.

Based on the dialogue everyone invited to the tournament is getting a mark no?

Trailer looks pretty cool! I'm digging the gore and chorepgraphy.

...Still don't know why the protagonist has to be some rando instead of Johnny or Liu Kang.

At least Scorpion and Sub-Zero aren't mooks this time.

Yeah, I don't know how to feel about Cole. I get a bit of an Alice from Resident Evil vibe; the RE films retooled the whole franchise to be about this one OC and how cool she is. I really hope that's not going to be what's happening here with Cole. I'd initially thought he was a composite character of Johnny Cage and Liu Kang, but Liu Kang is actually in the film so nuts to that.

Disappointed that they super dialed back Mileena's monstrous teeth, giving her a normal human mouth with slightly pointy teeth and then just smearing some blood on her cheeks. Mileena without her veil should look like a grotesque horror coming for your face, not a vampire that hasn't heard of napkins. Even MKX and its weird Mileena lips remembered to have the huge unhinged jaw of horrifying chompers.

Other than that, the trailer looks great. I'm particularly excited by the flash of Scorpion surrounded by hellfire; I was worried they might use the recent popularity of Human Hanzo Hasashi to avoid giving us Revenant Scorpion, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Much of the trailer looks like a solid adaptation... and then there's Cole.

It's a pretty good trailer, definitely is selling you on the violence but I'm not entirely convinced on the characters or production design. The special effects feel like Corridor Digital with more time and money, good but doesn't quite have that big budget feel. I don't know if that is due to cinematography or holding back on showing the big set pieces.

I do hope Scorpion and Sub-Zero steal the show here.

They definitely have the best presence in the trailer, especially Sub's "I am Sub-Zero" line.

Hope they don’t make the mistake of shoehorning too many characters at once. It’s a pitfall that partly killed Street Fighter and Annihilation (though those movies sucked for many other reasons).

Nice that they’re not pulling any punches with the fatalities, at least.

The fuck is this year we're in. I'm not going to overanalyze this by cast credentials or production values. To hell with all of that.

That they actually made MK into a passable film is astonishing.

Looks like complete and utter shameless cheese. Special effects look hokey, they're trying to cram too many characters in it for them to have any real meat to them, there's no point in having an OC protag, the dragon birthmarks are incredibly stupid as a concept...

Can't fucking wait day one buy.

At first I thought it was one towards people who didn't want to see Lewis Tan and his OC, but given the internet...I'm pretty sure they were serious.

Still don't want the OC anywhere near the proceedings Which is why I'm holding onto the Kuai Liang theory.

It just now hit me this film comes out the day after my birthday.

I clearly have been chosen for MORTAL KOMBAT.

I generally found the trailer alright, but the OC still heavily concerns me. Kano looks like he'll be a show-stealer (again).

It seems like a lot of people are bothered by Cole on principle.

I'd only care if he turns out to be totally annoying.

Still, people like Johnny and his absence had been noticed, with the new OC creating a lot of apprehension given we are into adaptations because we want to see our favorite characters and not some nobody stealing spotlight. Cole would always be looked funny in these conditions. Hope he is at least interesting to shut up some voices.

I'm half expecting that Cage IS in the movie, but just as a cameo or on TV or something. And played by the Miz, because that amuses me a lot.

x3 - People have very bad memories of Alice hijacking the plot of the RE films as they increasingly turned into vanity projects for the husband and wife director/actor duo.

I haven't seen Lewis Tan in a lot of stuff. I appreciate that he is on social media a lot trying to get his name out for big roles (IIRC he campaigned heavily to be Zoro in the Netflix adaptation of One Piece). He is not the level of actor that warrants an OC being made for him when a character people like in Johnny Cage is nowhere in sight.
