This thread's purpose is to discuss issues within the TLP community and site culture as well as propose solutions to said issues.
Please do not use this thread to report or call out specific users or TLP drafts on this thread. You can make a Ask The Tropers query on the issue, holler, or PM a mod (the first of the three being preferable).
. Based on the earlier Mario Pissing and Gay incidents, as well as observing the behavior of regulars in general, here are some issues I need to address.
- The community is too bomb-happy. By that, I mean, when a stub draft is proposed, users are way to quick to drop the bombs the moment it's available, and this creates a feedback loop where other users are encouraged to drop bombs as well. It gets to the point where the purpose of dropping bombs to offset hats is lost, and people care more about raising the bomb count than anything else.
- The community is unwilling to teach inexperienced sponsors. All too often, I've seen regulars not even trying to teach sponsors the steps needed to improve, and instead, will just give blunt statements that do nothing to help at all. (Ex: "No description! No examples! Bombing for lack of effort!")
- The overall rudeness of regulars. From my observations, most of the regulars are very prone to delving into snarky and sarcastic comments that condemn sponsors, and this is only creating an unwelcoming, toxic environment.
This needs to be fixed because, from the looks of it, those who were not banned from the 5T incident or didn't participate at all didn't get the memo that this type of mentality is very toxic and is what leads to incidents like that in the first place.

Bumping old drafts is fine if you have something to contribute although I personally don't see the point in bumping an old draft if you aren't going to adopt it. But all Astro is doing is pointing out mistakes on old drafts when they can easily fix themselves. I'll shoot them a message.
ETA: Movie Nut 14 isn't really the one doing the bumping from what I can see. They are just responding to the drafts that are getting bumped which is fine.

I've actually brought up Movie Nut before on the same point. While I get that bumping is allowed, I think they do it to an excessive degree, typically bumping 5+ drafts at once. It can really clog up the TLP and push down drafts that are currently being worked on vs ones that, while they may have viable ideas, have largely been abandoned (sometimes for a full decade) and are without sponsors. While it's fully possible for someone to take interest and adopt, it's also a much lower probability than someone who recently launched a draft to keep working on it if given good feedback.
I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed to bump, but like...maybe cap the bumping at 5 per day / every two days?

Astro is still just posting to inform people about issues they aren't fixing themselves.
They also still don't seem to be grasping what the problems are here. Nobody in the conversation even advocated for pulling the image, the discourse was literally about a ZCE, and yet the image got yanked as a result. This is just becoming an exercise in frustration for me.

That's the same troper who dredged up a dozen ancient tropes all at once a day or two ago. Looks like they haven't learned much from their mistakes.
Speaking of which this trope proposal from a decade ago was just dredged up by Astropilgrim 1621 five hours ago, and troper Idiosyncratic is already pushing to get it launched. Maybe it's indeed all ready to go, but holy speed of light, Batman...

~Type 40, it's been five days post-launch and Dressing Down still isn't indexed or crosswicked, and you have multiple notifiers about it. Remember that both indexing and crosswicking are important parts of the launching process. Please only launch a trope if you have time to take care of it after.

I'm having trouble finding an Index that suits it. As for crosswicking, I'd completely forgotten that it was needing to be done. I have a lot on my plate right now. I'll tend to it by day's end.
If it's related enough to She Cleans Up Nicely, then you can use some of its indexes?

whose discussion has gotten decidedly less than civil on the trope sponsor’s part (a continuation of the contentiousness from Marq FJA on the related Real Life Examples discussion page). They don’t seem to listen to criticism and seem more focused on shouting down disagreements rather than engaging in discussion. I’ve already left the discussion because of the troper’s attitude and belligerence.
I’m concerned this trope will get launched over the objections made given what has transpired, and it’s approaching a five hat edge.
Bringing this up again as the draft has attracted more hats — one short of launch — and nothing has been changed. The trope sponsor has done nothing but argue the issue. Am requesting a hold be put on this draft, as they may launch despite not solving the issues.

Well, the real life section issue was resolved and the draft is NRLEP now by moving the section into the description so there's that.

It’s low effort and confusing, already attracting 10 bombs and no hats, and the sponsor seems unable to address the issues.
I nuked it. Also, I'm sure it had 10 bombs when it was nuked. It now has 11, and I know I didn't add another bomb to it.

No, there's no reason at all for it to be coded this way, but the TLP is just quirky, you know? It's not like other girls.

Mind checking the hats on this draft? I don't think it's socks or anything, but it is a lot of people randomly deciding to hat a trope that has 4 examples (with most of those hats coming when it only had 2) and a sponsor who hasn't made any updates.
What’s the story with troper Movienut 14? They have been bumping old trope proposals like crazy.
