To-do list:
- Difficulty Spike, Sequel Difficulty Spike, and Sequel Difficulty Drop are now YMMV, so wicks are only allowed on YMMV pages unless they're acknowledged in the work. Wick cleanup is being kept track of in the Sandbox.Difficulty Dewicking sandbox.

Difficulty Spike needs to be changed to YMMV because most, if not, all examples are subjective and based on people's opinions. There seems to be no objective statements saying "X part of game is definitely more difficult than Y" because everyone deals with difficulty differently. Some find it easy, some find it hard. In all, it's generally agreed that tropes relating to video game difficulty are subjective, not objective.
It's also being misused as a way to list YMMV tropes like Demonic Spiders, That One Boss and That One Level in one package, bypassing the barrier.

Double posting because I made Sandbox.Difficulty Dewicking to keep track of wick cleanup for these three. I don't know what's already been cleaned up, so I didn't fill anything in yet.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. How do we deal with Reality TV game show/competition show entries? Eg. Series. The Amazing Race:
- Difficulty Spike: The Race intentionally tries to make the tasks start off relatively easy; but they get more and more difficult as the season goes on (Partly because a lot of difficult tasks early-on would be hell on the editors.) However, generally a third of the way through the season there's a notable difficulty spike.
Or something like a cooking show lowering the time limits to finish a dish or using rarer ingredients, where the editing makes it clear it's tougher on the contestants than usual? Are these valid In-Universe examples?
I don't think Difficulty Spike or the Sequel Difficulty items can even apply to anything other than video games, so I'm inclined to say to torch the Live-Action TV folder and probably also the Other folder on the main page. (Pinball should be fine since that's another type of electronic game.) The Laconic potholes "game" to Video Game, but the main page neglected to do that.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Potentially useless bump to say that out of all the active TRS threads on the Cleaning Project page, this one has the dubious honor of the least (read: no) cleanup activity since its readdition to TRS.
* Admittedly, there are a couple other stagnant ones, but this thread stands out both because it was reopened and because 2/3 of the relevant cleans have three-digit wicks.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker Mail'Tis not so bad. Sequel Difficulty Drop is done. Sequel Difficulty Spike has 119 Video Game/ wicks. Difficulty Spike has 157 Video Game/ wicks. The other namespaces are either much smaller or acceptably YMMV.
Perhaps people are intimidated by the fact that there are three pages to handle the wicks of, and two of them have three-digit wick counts while the third (which happens to be the one in the title) has a four-digit wick count. I confess to finding myself in that situation, at least, since I tend to work on smaller dewicking projects to keep myself from getting worn out.
I might see if I can work on Sequel Difficulty Spike and Sequel Difficulty Drop at some point in the near future since those have less wicks than Difficulty Spike itself, and then there would only be one left to knock out after that.
Edit: Ninja'd less than two minutes apart. I guess working on Difficulty Spike and Sequel Difficulty Spike won't be so hard after all, so it looks like Synchronicity's tally of how many wicks actually need to be looked at vs. what the totals are (or don't need to be looked at at all, per what she said about Sequel Difficulty Drop being done) led me to decide on what my next wick cleanup project is, even if it wasn't intentional.
Anyway, I marked Sequel Difficulty Drop as done in the Sandbox.Difficulty Dewicking sandbox per what was said above.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Double posting because every namespace except for VideoGame/ is done for Sequel Difficulty Spike. I'll remove Sequel Difficulty Drop from Wick Cleaning Projects if it hasn't been already, and Sequel Difficulty Spike should be following it soon.
Edit: I'll get the wicks for Difficulty Spike that aren't in the VideoGame/ namespace next, followed by the Characters/ namespace wicks for it since it has a decent amount (Sequel Difficulty Spike didn't have as many, and Difficulty Spike doesn't have as many wicks in that namespace as it does in the VideoGame/ namespace), and then go back and handle the VideoGame/ namespace for both it and Sequel Difficulty Spike after that.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. And now Difficulty Spike only needs to have the Characters/ and VideoGame/ namespaces dewicked, and Sequel Difficulty Spike just need to have the latter namespace dewicked. I think the end is in sight.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Characters/ is done for Difficulty Spike. Just one namespace left for it and Sequel Difficulty Spike and we're done.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Sequel Difficulty Spike is finally done, so we can close after Difficulty Spike's VideoGame/ wicks are cleaned. The only wicks for the former still left in that namespace are above-the-line wicks and ones that were acknowledged either by the game or Word of God.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I cleaned up the VideoGame/ subspace for Difficulty Spike, though I left out Wonderland Adventures cause I couldn't find the pothole.
Edit: found it now, and remove it

She/Her | Currently cleaning N/ASince the Sequel ones were already done, locking up.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
Crown Description:
Difficulty Spike is often used as a loophole for YMMV tropes such as Breather Level, Demonic Spiders, Goddamned Boss, That One Boss, etc. Should Difficulty Spike be reclassified as an YMMV trope? This crowner applies to Sequel Difficulty Spike and Sequel Difficulty Drop as well in addition to Difficulty Spike.
Yes, wicks for Difficulty Spike, Sequel Difficulty Spike, and Sequel Difficulty Drop need to be moved to YMMV pages unless they're discussed in a work (such as either a reaction to a Show Within a Show or in a discussed example on a page for a reviewer).
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
