1.1 is strong on the Court, weak on the Mage — no visual indicators of wizardry besides maybe his beard; the fact that he's whispering gives me more The Spymaster vibes. 1.3 is probably the strongest since the character on the right looks like a magic user, but the focus of the illustration is on the ruler.

I figure it gets across the trope well because Merlin is seen helping out the King, and very much looks like a Wizard Classic.

It's a man in fancy clothing holding a book... nothing in the image shows that he's advisor to the court, or that he's a wizard. This was upvoted in the main suggestion thread, but it appears alternatives haven't been considered.
