The shawl seems like it could work, if I'm understanding the trope correctly.
Is it fanart?
I can go with the Touhou character.
Zerochan says it's from "Comet Market 80". If we can't use it, how about Seymour◊ from Final Fantasy X with a caption asking what those buttons are attached to?
Keet cleanupEither image works for me.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSeymour if we can't use the Touhou image.
(Annoyed grunt)Clock is set.
Seymour focuses too much on the hairs instead of the clothes. The other one works well, though.
The universe is under no obligation to make sense to us.That links to a gallery, so I'm not sure which image you're suggesting. if you mean this that's Anti-Gravity Clothing

PSA: a cat is not a dogWell... looking at the examples, this trope needs more a repair shop to tighten the definition first. A LOT of examples are impractical but not impossible.
Like one glaring entry...
Like Jesus its all 'impractical' and not impossible.
I'd be down to table this until TRS looks at it.
Same.
(Annoyed grunt)Yep. ‘Impossibly’ implies well ‘impossible’. Like floating parts and such, the costume could not exist in real life without super glue, assistance, and/or careful camera angles.
The examples read
- Impossible
- impractical or excessively extravagant
- impractical outfit for the job, like say Frills of Justice is just not something one would actually wear into combat but they do.
- Fancy
TRS.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessTRS.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand!Impractical outfits go under Impractically Fancy Outfit which would also include the impracticality aspect mentioned on Frills of Justice.
I agree this could use TRS, but considering how slow it can be (could you please open the thread immediately if this discussion suggests TRS?) I say we should put up the Nagae Iku image.
Keet cleanupIt’s a stylized image of someone throwing around clothing but I don’t see the impossible in it.
She's not tossing the shawl, she's casting a spell or using a power or some such. As I understand it, the shawl just floats around her like that.
The clock's up...is anyone going to start the TRS thread?
Way past the clock on this one; locking up.
There is no current image for Impossibly Cool Clothes. I was suggesting Joker from Persona 5 for the picture, with the following link be the one: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/megamitensei/images/5/59/Phantom_render.png/revision/latest?cb=20160729154419
