I figured, yeah. They've got Falcon and the Winter Soldier coming out this month, Loki two months after that. They've got a plan. If it's all as good as WandaVision, I'm on board. That said, I'm sure there are still people who only got the service for new Star Wars who still won't be swayed, thus the dip in subs.

Yeah, some people are basically only interested in the Star Wars stuff, so unless Disney plans to spread out their Star Wars content throughout the year, those subscribers will stay periodical.

Well, once they've got the spinoffs going that'll probably pick up some of the slack. We'll see how they do at filling out the rest of the year. I'm sure they've got a decent lock on the people with kids market with their back catalogue, not to mention all the people who Grew Up Disney as it were, so that's probably still a pretty stable subscription base.

I feel like Disney needs more regular TV content than just Star Wars and Marvel expanded universes, because if you're trying to have mini series and seasons running all year round, you're stretching those two franchises pretty thin.

You'd think Disney would have more killer I Ps than just those two.

Though we are getting an Alien TV series at somepoint. And I expect The Predator and TRON to follow suit.

Gosh I can tell we're going to have a Pirates of the Carribbean TV show at some point. That was the third most successful film franchise of all time at one point. And the reason those films are exspence is because they have to be filmed on water, but with their new studio they might not have to anymore.

TRON did have a pretty good cartoon a couple years back.

Shame it got cancelled after only 1 season.

Disney also has the Muppets, but they seem to have been struggling to figure out what to do with that franchise for a while.

Idk about Pirates of the Carribean, I feel like Disney has already milked all they can out of those movies

They've got two films on production at the moment, so they obviously think there's potential there.

It is a franchise I think could benefit from the serial format. For a couple seasons anyway.

Shame a Planet of the apes TV show doesn't seem viable. Unless they do it retro style with costumes.

We're off topic now though.

Well, they've got some original content out now, with Star. I haven't heard much about it and I haven't had the chance to check it out myself. But it's a start. We'll see how that develops. They have the money to hire the people to make some quality TV and advertise it, so maybe that'll get more word of mouth as it comes along.

There's also Percy Jackson.

And with Star, there are some "Star Originals" in Canada, but they were Hulu series in the US. Helstrom, Love Victor and Solar Opposites. All with completed seasons in the US, all getting released one episode at a time up here.

Ahh, I see. Never mind, then.

[up][up][up]...but yeah. I guess we could take this to another thread if we wanted to keep going with the non-SW Disney+ stuff. The Mandalorian spinoffs could theoretically cover another 4-5 months on their own, with 8-10 weekly episodes, even if Disney just accepts those viewers only want more Star Wars. Because at some point some number of that audience probably will be converted into full-time subscribers anyway.

So, I don't follow Twitter or anything, but I'm kind of bummed out to hear Carano was fired. Dune was a fun character who seemed like she had potential for interesting stories in the future. Heard that Favreau and Filoni had Gina in mind for this character pretty early on so I can understand their reluctance to replace her.

Personally my own policy for actors has been, "I really don't give half a shit about your personal beliefs, all I care about is if I enjoy the roles you play, so just don't get arrested and I won't care."

At the risk of sharing an unpopular opinion, I find it darkly amusing that a Disney subsidiary makes a claim of having standards after the cluster fuck that was Mulan.

Sorry for bringing this back up, it took me a while to binge this thread and I haven't really had much of a place to talk about this.

Back to the topic of the Mandalorion, after I heard something about bringing back old EU stuff I had a few out there theories I wanted to share with someone.

So Gideon was supposed to have been executed already, and everyone here seemed quick to chalk it up to political corruption, but with the presence of a cloning expert, what's to say that either the Gideon we've seen (or more likely, the one executed) is the original? And before anybody cries foul, we could be looking at a return of the Legends Spartoi Cylinders. Those were way faster than the Kaminoan method, in exchange for plenty of down sides. We could be looking at an attempt to clone some of the Inquisitors or even, if Favreau feels like going on an extra deep dive a return of Lu'uke.

I had some reservations about seeing the darksaber in live action. I was worried it would look more obviously "fake" than more standard lightsabers. But that worry turned out to be base less. Now a part of me kind of wants to see an Inquisitor style lightsaber in live action to see if they can pull it off. I've always been on the fence about them ever since I first saw a clip of them. On the one hand, automaticly spinning lightsaber buzz saw is awesome. On the other hand, its a double bladed lightsaber that's spinning automatically like a helicopter blade because the user is too much of a casual to learn how to spin it manually, which is lame. These 2 thoughts have been warring within me constantly.

It's not really censorship. She was very rapidly turning into brand poison and making them look bad.

But yeah, the Darksaber did look really good in live-action. I'm glad that Pedro Pascal (or at least a character of his) got to wield a spear again, and this time had a helmet.

I think the Mulan fiasco made Disney more cautious in regards to these things which is why they let her go now.

Also, I heard a rumor that Pascal is getting cast for HBO's The Last of Us series? So with him being under contract for one more season for the Mandolorian, could we be looking at him just doing a voice over instead of being on set? Supposedly, there were rumors that he already isn't behind the helmet that often on set anyway, so there might not be that much of a change.

[up]Could be.

Speaking of rumors, there was another one floating around that supposedly before she got canned there was going to be a plotline about it turning out Cara Dune was Force Sensitive and her becoming either a Jedi or Sith. I'm sceptical of this myself, but just imagine a Jedi Dune with Cortosis arm guards like the Imperial Knights from Star Wars Legacy. Using them to short out an enemies lightsaber so she can just wail on them in a brawl.

Granted I don't think a helmet would have helped when dealing with the Mountain.

I'm gonna assume it'd be harder to crush his head like a melon, had he worn a proper helmet. The Mountain's strong, but I'm not sure he's "can crush steel with his bare hands" strong.

Funnily enough, we actually had a Mountain-like situation last season already - Din's fight with Burg.

I honestly don't know what people expected the actress to do, speak out against her own country?

One thing that's important to remember is that when someone gets let go like with Carano, there's generally a behind the scenes element to it. It wouldn't even remotely surprise me if she'd spent season 2 getting increasingly insufferable and difficult to work with behind the scenes because that "you don't get to tell me what to do, I'll do what I want!" attitude really doesn't compartmentalize at all well.
