Welcome to HGS: Another Side Another Story. It is a roleplay spinoff for the Hunger Games Simulator forum game, akin to both the RP's in the Roleplaying section as well as the ITTs in Forum Games. It tells the story of the Hunger Games in the Arena of Panem, the nominators who sent the tributes, the tributes themselves both in and out of the Arena or even other people relevant to the Games. In addition, it also tells their stories beyond the Arena.
You can jump right in with any character, like your nominator self, your tributes, etc. The structure of this RP will be open-world. Don't worry about not being skilled/experienced enough or being new to RP'ing. Finally, ASAS accepts any skill level or RP style. Other than these, there are some important rules to note, which are:
- No godmodding will be allowed or tolerated here. The offending player will be given punishment depending on the severity.
- Please communicate anything important you plan on another player with the said player first. Don't just execute it without their consent.
- Don't be rude to other players, both out and in-universe. This extends to RP offenses like railroading, guilt-tripping, coercing, or other forms of forcing them.
- This RP is related to the Hunger Games Simulation:Beyond the Possibilities forum game. Thus it will have events based from that game, including the tributes. This means if you want to RP as tributes, please nominate them officially on the thread first, with misses not being counted. This has to be done after an incident with a player who hasn't joined the game itself yet.
- Since this RP is Loose Canon in relation to the main HGS thread, the host's interpretation of events isn't necessarily 100% canon. Every player has the right to deviate from what the host says and go with their own interpretations. If multiple players have their tributes involved in the same event(s), please communicate with each other so that you're on the same page regarding how you see them.
- This RP chronicles the lives of the nominators and their tributes behind the scenes. While dark plots are acceptable, the overall tone of the RP should be light-hearted and comedic. This RP is not a Cosmic Horror Story or action story about defeating evil. It is a Slice of Life comedy with some adventure to it, first and foremost. Our previous RP, Convergence, is not representative of the intended tone, and the grimdark tone of that RP is one of the main reasons it was retooled.
- Nominators and tributes alike can transform into Pokemon whenever they enter a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon World (but they can bypass this with certain items/methods or shapeshifting) or via other means outside it such as a season event, Transformation Trinkets, or shapeshifting. The players are free to choose the Pokéforms that best suit their characters and even give them color schemes outside the standard and Shiny colors, but there is a hard rule for this. If you want your character's Pokéform to be a Legendary, Mythical, or Ultra Beast, please ask the RP mods for approval. Outside the Arena, these Pokéforms are still OP, but we want to give leeway for tributes who theoretically can have them such as deities.

Detective Gamechanger's Base
A sharp-dressed man in a green suit and yellow tie is standing by the entrance of the base. He is of average height and has whitish skin, though still a bit darker. He is Billy, one of the nominators and the organizer of the party.
Indeed, after the nominators' returned and settled their problems, they decide to have fun with a party. Billy also sent invites for all the other nominators out there, as well as basically anyone else, including tributes, non associated parties, interested nominators who haven't participate yet, or even those who just wants to hang out.
The place itself in the base is refurbished for party purposes. Fancy chairs and tables are set everywhere for people to relax, as well as put food and other objects for the latter. There's also various collections showcased, including those belonging to the Detective, like his classic cars. Various themes to the base are set too, including detective noir as GC would have preferred.
Billy is now awaiting for other guests to arrive. He is also ready to give them a pleasant surprise during the party pertaining to his nation.

Welp, guess I might explore around while we wait to hear back from Nina- (Just then, her communicator rings.) Yeah, Nina? ...Oh hey, you found someone? Great, send 'em on over!
(She hangs up and turns to Cat.) Hey, good news! They found someone and he'll be over this way as soon as possible!
Figure you guys aren't gonna need a ride, huh? (Nina says to Jake and his grandfather.)
Nah, we got a ride built right in, yo! DRAGON UP! (Jake changes into his dragon form.)
But are you sure you won't need me for these Hunger Games? (Gramps asks.)
Nah, the chamber creates copies to take people's places in seasons if they aren't available. (Nina explains.) You guys are good to go!
Great, check you guys later! (Jake and Gramps start to head out.)
Oh yeah, need a second person... (Nina says, hitting the button.)
(One of the other Aerodactyls who appeared with Mica shows up.) Oh boy, I get another shot? (Ash asks. The Aerodactyl looks around, only to see that they're by themselves. They're briefly crestfallen.) Oh...well, I'll try to do Mica, Dale, and Petunia proud!
Yeah, good attitude, bub. The other chamber's ready whenever you are. (Nina says.)
Zora's Domain
(After a while of touring around, Wanda, Cleo, and Sidon are lounging in one of the many springs around the Domain with several other Zora.)
Wow, I'm a little beat. (Wanda admits.) Glad we're ending off our little tour here. This water feels great.
Indeed. (Cleo agrees.)
I am glad you've enjoyed your time here! I apologize for not inviting you all here sooner! (Sidon says.)
Aw, it's fine, Sides. I think it was way worth the wait, anyway. (Wanda says.) You guys have a great place here.
I am surprised at the amount of delight we have given your people. (Cleo says, looking back at the Zora children climbing onto her back and sliding back down into the water.) Between my size, Wanda's powers...
It's been a very long time since we've had visitors from outside our world who have come in peace. (Sidon says.) I think it's small wonder everyone has welcomed you with open arms.
I sure didn't like the way some of those older guys were looking at me, though. (Wanda remarks, thinking about how many of the elderly Zora have continuously eyed her with a great deal of suspicion.) Especially after I showed off to Mei how I could shapeshift by turning into you again. Hope they don't think I'm planning to replace you or anything.
Do not worry about them, Princess Wanda. You have the approval of myself and my father. I'm sure they understand you're not here to hurt anyone. (Sidon says.)
Yeah... (Wanda says. She still can't help but wonder a little what would happen if she brought her parents here. She knows they seem to have genuinely gone straight, but...)
Dark Stanford's Lair
(In his downtime while waiting for the go-ahead to unleash the Voidland Metroids, Dark Stanford has altered two of his bracers into a pair of gauntlets large enough for he in his normal form to wear. They have a metallic, purple appearance and seem to be infused with Voidland Energy.)
Wonderful... (Dark Stanford mutters, looking them over.)

Flashback: The Arena, S282, Night 3 Onwards
That night, Mr. Ping returned to his computer and tried learning how to use his messaging program. He found Spons' username in another chatroom and tried sending him a DM, but accidentally sent him a bean emoji instead. Mr. Ping tries unsending it, but he fumbled with the buttons and kept spamming Spons' inbox with more bean emojis, unaware that other tributes are doing the same.
The next day, the Gremlin Clowns visited Mr. Ping's makeshift noodle shop, and even if he shuddered at them, he still served them noodles. He then overheard Vivian swearing later that night, so he told her, "language please!" but she mistook it for a grammar lesson and said, "whom the fuck..." instead. Mr. Ping facewinged and went to bed, but he woke up the next day to a very concerning letter from her that Adu Du died.
"Something tells me that that foul-mouthed spirit's up to no good..." Mr. Ping muttered to himself after reading it twice.
He ran off to hide from Vivian, and then passed by what seemed to be Gordon's photo pasted on the Spamton Moodboard. Mr. Ping stopped in his tracks and examined them closely, but he yelped upon realizing what they actually were.
"Oh, goodness! I better not be running into any more of these bodies... I-isn't that why I'm here in the first place?"
He wasn't responsible for their deaths, but the kills he made in S254 rang in his mind. He skipped the Feast to contemplate on this, and then tried restoring Kirby Super Star to distract himself from the harsh reality of the Arena, but then he got a better idea.
"This Arena could be a little brighter..."
He bought a giant paintbrush and can of rainbow paint and spread it all over the ground. After a long day's work, he put on his pajamas and went to bed, then got up the next day still wearing them. Later on, he bumped into the Unused Reserves again and apologized deeply for the ruined birthday cakes, but the Reserves decided to settle this with him with a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Mr. Ping thought quickly and chose his symbol, but most of the Reserves defeated him with their winning symbols and made him explode.

"...Huh... Did somebody understand ANYTHING?" Alex said after the explanation, completely confused by the rhymes.
"I think I did as annoying as it was... It sounds like a dodging game. And if we dodge them at the last moment, we'll collect more of that TP stuff." Arthur explained
"And you use those Tension Points to do special moves... Got it." Tokage finished.
"Sounds... special. But at least we now have a better idea how fights work here." Aaron said.
Battle Master's then showed the group the list.
"Hmmm..." James muttered, looking at Cyber World All-Stars.
"James? NO." Arthur sternly said.
"But I have not even-" James protested.
"This is literally almost ALL of the monsters from that other world where Queen is from. No way we're taking this on our own." Arthur exclaimed.
"Who knows? Maybe if we all band together..." Nick said.
"Maybe? We should start slow, though. I'm open to suggestions, but perhaps we can go with Jigsaw Joe, and we'll see where we'll go from there." Aaron suggested.
"If we can't do them at the same time, then wwhat should we do?" Tokage asked.
"I suppose everyone can pick their own challenge then. I think I'll let June decide." Aaron said.
"Heh, I'm not against facing that Clover, whoever that is." Alex said.
"Graze Challenge certainly looks interesting for me." Tokage said.
"Well if we cannot choose the final challenge... We may take on Tasque Manager." James said to his teammates.
"That's a bit more reasonnable, James." Nick giggled.

The moment the Altfords no longer needed him, "Kelby" had retreated somewhere isolated for a moment to contact Fire Eyes, to see how he was doing.
One can imagine his surprise when he received no answer. Unknown to him, Proteus Ridley had pretty much ripped Fire Eyes's communicator from his armor when torturing the Chozo.
Blood Moon furiously growled as he futilely called Fire Eyes again. He was forced to sit down and let out some unnatural noises as he clutched his head, frustrated and anxious.
Why the hell wasn't he answering? Did something happen? Was Fire Eyes...?
"Kelby"'s hand suddenly mutated into Rodriguez's one, as Blood Moon furiously crushed a giant boulder nearby with a single punch with a cry of rage.
"No... Nonono... NO... I know him... Pirate scums can't possibly kill him. He's alive... HE IS ALIVE..." the mad Chozo muttered, shaking his head. The thought of his blood brother felled by Space Pirates was unfathomable to him. Maybe Fire Eyes was too busy to answer him?
Certainly, Fire Eyes must have notified Solid Rock and the others... And certainly, Raven Beak knew of his whereabouts as well. Yes, that must be it...
Blood Moon was about to immediately contact the old Chozo, but decided against it at the last moment. Should he be too long on his own, the other cretins in the chest might start to ask questions.
So far, Blood Moon had fooled everyone. He just had to keep doing it perfectly until Raven Beak would give the order.
Focusing, Blood Moon took a deep breath, pushing his concern about Fire Eyes away, for now at least. The "gecko" then left his isolated spot to join back the Altfords and Power's family.
When he'll have some time afterward, he will get to the bottom of this...

All this time, Justice has been checking on the other family members left behind in this realm. No word from Ichi's bunker yet, but while Justice considers calling Power again, he trusts Ichi to continue keeping her and her family safe. The old stallion goes over to "Kelby" to check on him as well.
"How's everything since breakfast?" Justice asks "him".

The Cerberus-like Darkner waves her paw at the mons as soon as they mention her name.
"'Clover'? That's meeee!" says the middle head.
"NO, I'M THE ONE WHO'S CLOVER!" shouts the right head.
"Um... technically all three of us are Clover..." the left head whispers.
"That's who you're gonna fight, you two!" Joe tells Alex and August. "And also, that was technically the Prince in Power's body who was able to use TP that time, but anyway! I know you're all excited to train with us, but we can't host all these challenges at once 'cause we can't fit all of your opponents in here! So who among you will go first?"

"So how are Frisk and Asriel?" asks 6k1. "I saw them at the cafeteria a while ago, and they were happy to see me!"
"I haven't received today's class report from their teacher yet," says Toriel, "but no incident reports so far."
"That's great! I hope they have an enjoyable school year together!"
"I hope so, too!"
"So what activities does the school have later this year? Are there any that I can attend?"
"Of course, there are! Here's the school calendar if you're interested!"

"Wow... Hey, we're gonna take on an Hydreigon thingy!" the Charmeleon exclaimed.
"Fantastic!" James said to Tenn and Henry, ready to take on Tasque Manager.
"I think I and June will start first, if the others don't mind." Aaron said to Joe.
As he was watching the others with Oscar, Lucian noticed Shelley looking back at them. He also saw Aaron giving them a similar look.
True, Lucian was bad at fighting. But with his loony powers...
"Oscar... If it's just a dodging game... Do you think we could try joining June and Aaron?" he asked.

As soon as Aaron, June, Oscar, and Lucian step up to challenge Joe, the dance floor turns into a boxing ring.
"Everyone!" says Joe as he stands on the other side, "you can ACT and SPARE on the same turn! If you know your ACTs will give an enemy 100% MERCY... SPARE them on the same turn with your allies!"
He doesn't do anything on his first turn. While the team can attack him, there is something on his face that the team can do instead to him to allow him to be Spared on this turn.

Though he was nervous, Lucian looked at his three friends as Joe explained the team's moves.
"Okay... I don't think we should attack him." Aaron said, studying their target.
"O-Okay... B-But what do we do?" Lucian asked. Aaron thought for a moment, looking at Joe's stubble.
"Hmm... Lucian? Oscar? Can you make a razor for us?" he asked.

Hang on... (He reaches into June's mane and, after a bit of rummaging around with the requisite wacky sound effects, inexplicably pulls a razor out of it.)

The Birthday Announcement
Once they had gone back and recovered, Bale's group took their time to rest for the day, opting to try and reflect on what they'd been through just now and prepare for next time they faced all their foes. As Bale went to rest, his mind became lost in thinking about what to do next.
Bale: Just alone with my thoughts. Somehow I'll fix this, I promise.
The next morning he was awakened by his group waking him up rudely for his birthday party. With Soldier leading the celebration.
Soldier: Congratulations, Mr. Hay Bale, today you are a year closer to being a supercentannary.
Bale: But I am just 23, I mean I just turned 23.
Soldier: Only 98 more years to go, then.
MG: Well, let's ignore that we made a cake for you!
Amethyst: Mostly me, the others were my assistants.
Pearl: We were not. We all worked equally for this.
Garnet: We had to keep Amethyst from eating too much of it during the taste phase.
MG: I requested them to do it, just so you know.
Bale: Thanks, that means a lot.
MD: Oooh, are we doing gifts?
Bale: No.
MG: Don't think we got time and those would be solely for Bale, MD.
MD: Oof.
Bale then checked on the Season and nominated his picks once he saw not much progress in the meantime.

Pythor heard the whole spiel of newcomers and shrugged while checking a bad he had brought.
Pythor: As long as those friends of yours don't bother me then go ahead with that.
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."

NTC's Lab
"Most excellent," said Nine-Tailed Cat. "Then I'll have them consult with the Augur and see what they can find together."
"Let's hope they don't have too much trouble getting here!" Cassandra said. "It's a long trip, huh?"
"Perhaps, depending on where they're coming from." Nine-Tailed Cat shrugged. "Anyway, Miss Ball, I'll be getting the new chassis ready. If you need anything more, feel free to ask Cassandra." With that, he went back to his work desk to begin robot construction.
The Arena, Season 283
As the season began, Yahenni found themself facing off against Gramps. Seeing that the old man had already lived a long and productive life, they decided to help themself to his life energy to prolong their own existence in the Games. However, despite being drained to a husk, Gramps proved determined enough to come back to life more powerful than before. Meanwhile, as Ladislava attempted to rack up items from spinning a wheel, she hit a Whammy and lost everything, accompanied by a voice saying, "Losing at a Game Show 100!"
That day, Yahenni became curious about a certain anatomical feature that aetherborn lack, and started doing various drawings of them to try to figure out more about them. Meanwhile, Caique, struggling to fend off the possibility of death through disease, starvation, or other natural causes, ended up tearing out his own eyes and throwing them away. Some force of nature raised an eyebrow at Caique, who could not see anything at the moment.
I like cute things. You gotta deal with it.

(The season starts.)
(Dupe!Gramps has a near-fatal encounter with Yahenni, but miraculously comes back in a much stronger form! It looks like a giant, green version of his usual dragon form. After this he…gets hit by a pomegranate.)
(Ash is pretty excited to be in another season already.) Woohoo! I’ve been waiting for this! (The Aerodactyl scrambles their way into the Arena.)
(Evidently, Marni found Ash’s cheerful attitude grating and asks them if they ate paint chips when they were young. Ash finds the question so silly they burst out laughing…before wondering why Marni would even ask such a question in the first place and asking:) …Wait, why?
Lab
You got it! (Ball tells Cat at he gets to work.)
(She turns to Cassandra.) …So…is being a fox assistant ever dangerous for you, Cass? (She asks.)
Yo, G, you seeing this? (Jake asks Gramps as they fly toward the Lab. He’s got the season up on his phone.) Your clone just like…un-croaked like a phoenix.
Oh? Well, I don’t think I could actually do that anywhere but within a Hunger Games season. (Gramps says.) Keep a sharp eye out for the lab, Jake. Based on the directions we were given, we can’t be far.

She then just remembers that it was Bale's birthday a few Earth Prime days ago and sends him a birthday greeting.

6k1 examines the school calendar: besides the usual exams and vacation schedules, there will be a sports fest, a science fair, a field trip to another universe, and prom for the high schoolers. But the most important event of the school year is the 8th Anniversary School Festival, which would be a smaller-scale version of the 6th Anniversary Festival. This time, they will focus on human culture as part of the festivities, and attending it is compulsory for Social Studies class.
"Ooh, there will be a stage presentation, too!" says 6k1.
"Yes!" says Toriel, "and this time, we'll make sure that every student is accounted for!"
"Alright! I'll see if I can attend it!"
Unlike 6k2, 6k1 doesn't tell her that she had Dupe clone her today so that she can visit her and Haze at the same time. Would she consider this as cheating if I do this again for the festival? she thinks. She understands if I can't go, and she knows that I usually clone myself for work only, but...

Oh yeah! I'm pretty sure his genderswapped counterpart was there, too! He suddenly broke into a nervous sweat Is… is that why Polar Knight is so pissed at me? Hopefully I don't have to worry about it, because… I ain't the best fighter, especially when compared to someone as big as Polar Knight. Maybe I could fix that sometime soon, I don't know. Haze started up a pot and put in the hot dogs he pulled out of the fridge earlier Y'know, self-improvement and all of that. Could be fun, actually!
…That scene also begs the question of how the hell Polar Knight mistook Ragtime for me. I feel like me and a mummy in a top hat would look rather different.

"Ohhhh... you're sparing me!?" Joe checks his chin and dashes out of the ring, but he comes back just as quickly. "WAIT A SECOND!!! I got something else to remind you of! Everyone! It works the same with making an enemy TIRED! If an ACT will make an enemy TIRED... they can be PACIFIED right away! This might be relevant only to the Prince since he can cast the Pacify spell, but I'm sure one of you can do something close to that!"
He then yawns. It looks like he could use a bedtime story.

Toriel then checks the time on her computer.
"I have around five minutes left until I go back to work, my child."
"Oh man, that fast?" asks 6k1. "What will you teach your pupils next?"
"Actually, that would be for tomorrow since Kindergarten is only in the morning for them, but I still have some paperwork to do for the PTA meeting!"
"Oh right, I saw that in the schedule."
"But do you have anything else to talk about before we go?"
"Um... nothing much other than reminding you to stay vigilant for Dark Stanford. You'll never know if he might kidnap Asriel for his own nefarious plans."
Toriel cups her mouth, but nods firmly. "Alright, Asgore is already increasing the kingdom's security and ensuring that the Royal Guard is prepared for a possible invasion."
"That's good." 6k1 then gets up. "And speaking of Dad, I'll go and visit him later. It's gonna be Father's Day soon, and admittedly, I visited you for Mother's Day too, even if it was really late. Earth Prime Time's weird, you know?"
Toriel chuckles. "I know, but I still appreciate it, my child!"
The DM goes to her side and hugs her. "Hope we can go on another outing together someday!"

Then came the next turn, and Joe explained how a TIRED enemy could be PACIFIED immediately. The group listened, but they were quick to notice that Joe looked more tired than usual for some reason.
"What happened to him? He wasn't looking this tired moments ago, no?" Aaron asked his friends. Lucian nodded before having an idea.
"Hold on... After what he just said, maybe we could... just make him sleep? Like that we could end the battle" the Lycanroc suggested.

(Suddenly, almost before Oscar even realizes what he’s doing, he whirls around for a second, and when he stops, he looks like your typical grandmother Thievul.) Oh, you poor dear, you look tired. Do you need to take a rest for a while? (He asks Joe in a gentle voice much different from his normal one.)
(June is a bit startled, but follows Oscar’s lead and makes a small futon big enough for Joe to lay on appear on the stage with her illusions.)
(Off-stage, July’s jaw is dropped in disbelief.)

To top it off, Lucian instinctively followed his friend's lead by turning into a Dusk Lycanroc-coloured book bearing his eyes for Oscar to read. Inside the book was your typical bedtime story. Aaron just stared at the duo with wide eyes.

Majel's servos whirred for a moment. "An unconventional choice
, Nine-Tailed Cat.""Indeed. But I've had success with unconventional choices before." He grinned. "The unspoken Mass Murderer of every previous season gets its chance to shine. And let's not discount Yahenni either - their life-draining gift is a force to be reckoned with."
"Very well." Majel released the aetherborn from their chamber, then took the container of natural causes and set out for the arena.
Nine-Tailed Cat turned to Miss Ball. "Anyway, as I said, I'll use this time to try to get the combat chassis operational. What about you? What will you do while we wait?"
