Hooked, thanks.
Sorry- forgot to holler for the hook
The crowner already seems pretty conclusive.
Current Project: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYeah, I was just waiting a bit because there was a delay before it got hooked, so I didn't want to end the voting early.
That is a fine understatement. You had me worried. Votes are at 17-nil to make a supertrope.
Calling in favor of making Named Weapons a supertrope.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI posted the sandboxes here; any other opinions on those?
If they're good, then we should just need some example cleanup and we should be good to go.

For named weapon, I think there should be some mention of when a name moves from just a nickname to this middle tier (accepted by more than just the person bestowing the name), that it can start in this tier (like the Gundams), that a name might be bestowed due to the weapon having just 'saved' the wielder's life, mention Cute as a Bouncing Betty (since it's a sister trope to Vera).
Feel free to shoot down any/all of these. I'm willing to edit them in, but for now I need to fix supper.
Okay, swapped in sandboxes. I don't have time to do the examples right now, but the biggest problem is the I Call It "Vera" video game examples, which has a bunch that would probably fit better under Named Weapons and is insisting on listing every individual weapon.
This thread's been sitting dormant since February. What do we do with it?
I'd like to apologize for all this.If the sandboxes have already been put in place, then I'm assuming cleanup is all that's left (at least if any has to be done).
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Change the definition to match the crowner result and clean up the wicks.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI assumed Discar's sandboxes handled the definition change. I could have been mistaken, since I don't recall having anything to do with this thread.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Swapping in the sandboxes handled the definition change, yes. New job means I have basically zero free time, but I Call It "Vera" was (and still is) the main problem. A lot of the video game examples would fit better under Named Weapons, and the examples are also listing every minor weapon with a name instead of talking more generally about how weapons are named in the series.
I think I Call It "Vera" for one of:
- Human names for weapons.
- Names for personal weapons.
- All names for non-Legendary Weapons.
Bumping Because this is almost done, we just need to solve differentiation...
"Dragonslayer", a sword, is different from I Call It "Vera", because it's named for it's function, even though it's a name.
It slays dragons.
Same with BoxxyQuest: The Shifted Spires: Flareshot, a fire elemental bow. It shoots, and there's fire.

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576‘I call it’ is a pet name. ‘Dragon slayer’ it’s function, like it does extra damage to dragons so that’s it’s name.
- So Dragonslayer is not a Named Weapon and the page image is wrong?
Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576It really, really depends on context. "Dragonslayer" is often used as a name and a title, whether for a person or a weapon, in which case it is definitely an example (just like the page image). Or it could be a purely descriptive name, which is not an example.
Let me put it this way: If it's in a game, is it a +5 dragonslayer sword, or is it The Dragonslayer?
Clock is set. What is missing here?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSo, Legendary Weapon is implied to always be Named...
I Call It "Vera" is ? ... Person-like naming of a weapon?
It's gotta be named by a single person, in a friendly way?
So Mothcutter for a personal sword... Doesn't count?
And Named Weapons cover all the rest, from military like nicknames / codenames, like "The Rods from God" to "X-29 Dragon"?

Crown Description:
We appear to have a Missing Supertrope with named weapons, and trying to make Named Weapons a "formal" version of I Call It Vera has produced problems about the "formal" qualification and creator intent.
