Fans are the ones who overcomplicated things like continuity and shared universe. Broad Strokes and The Other Darrin is more often the standard than having one intricately crafted, internally consistent setting. Remember they replaced the actor who played Batman multiple times and audiences generally went along with it.
Tell a good story with a distinct tone and fans will find it.
Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils!I'm more curious if this means The Suicide Squad is still gonna be canon or if they're gonna do a Broad Strokes take on things, especially since the film directly led into the first season of Peacemaker.
On the one hand, The Suicide Squad does mostly work as a standalone film. There's returning actors and the like, but I don't think they explicitly reference an earlier film aside from "Harley and Captain Boomerang were on Task Force X before, and they know Rick Flagg". That can work if you try to merge it into the new continuity, since it seems to be going with the idea that guys like the Justice League and other heroes are already well-established.
On the other hand, will this mean that Margot Robbie will continue to play Harley going forward, or will she get recast? What if someone wants to do a different take on her in a future film? Will we assume The Suicide Squad mostly happened as it is aside from Harley?
Granted, it all depends on execution. But these are things to consider.
Yes and no. I'm sure I am overthinking it and I reckon general audiences won't care.
On the other hand no one forced them to sell it as a shared universe in the first place, and suggesting fans are silly to care and shouldn't is a little disingenuous. Fans caring about your universe is a good thing, it's what you want ideally.
James Gunn shoehorned The Suicide Squad, Peace Maker, Blue Beetle into Schrödinger's Canon of the DCU.
Obscure Reference: "It can sometimes knock out opponents with the shock created by breaching and crashing its big body onto the water. There is something to be said for bad marketing. Random statements from the creative team taken out of context is a different beast to trailers that have no idea what the movie is actually about. The MCU became as big as it was because they had successfully convinced its' audience that every movie matters and any given movie might have a cameo from another beloved character, so you don't want to miss out. Then there are gaffs like the Ghostbusters 2016 trailer that implied the movie is a continuation of the original and not a remake ("30 years ago, four scientists saved New York").
Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils! The only DCEU movies I've seen in theaters were Wonder Woman (2017), SHAZAM! (2019) and Black Adam.
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned. The MCU kind of made it so Broad Strokes isn't seen as an ideal anymore, at least for superhero movies. Because the MCU doesn't work on Broad Strokes, even when there are cosmetic changes when an actor replaces another in the roles of Red Skull or War Machine, the continuity is still overall tight and that's the model the other companies in the business are 'expected' to follow. DC kinda goes back and forth on whether that applies to their movies or not, with some like Joker and The Batman clearly being their own thing, but then there are others, like Peacemaker, which are neither fish nor fowl, continuity wise, and that may get just confusing to audiences.
Edit: Daredevil is about to introduce Broad Strokes continuity to the MCU now, though...

First pics from the set of Superman, featuring Maria Gabriela De Faria as The Engineer
I'm curious what look they are going to go with once they fully costume and special effects her.
Maybe probably a mix of her classic silver woman look with the modernized power armor from The Wild Storm reboot.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Hollywood Reporter is saying a live action Teen Titans movie has been greenlit. Same writer as the supergirl movie.

Whoever makes the page, remember to say that it’s the second Teen Titans theatrical movie. Teen Titans Go came first.

The Owl House and Coyote Vs Acme are my Roman Empire.GIMME GIMME GIMME!
...No tax-write off, please...
You can't kill art.I should be more excited than I am. (This applies to whole gunn/safran verse)
But cool. I wonder if they'll fudge things to put Blue Beetle in the line up and fulfil the statement Xolo Maridueña would keep the role in the new verse.
Awesome news. I wonder if Blue Beetle and Supergirl will be in the mix. We still haven’t had it confirmed where Xolo is reprising his role as Jaime.
Let's hope the best for Supergirl first.
Wake me up at your own risk. All bets are on Superman.
If it does well then we can safely expect the rest of these stories.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Joker 2 will include fifteen cover songs, original tracks may be added
...Can...can one of them be Kiss From A Rose? Please?
Dunno if many'd like that. Such a cover would be put to such a high standard that it'd be nearly impossible to satisfy people.
Wake me up at your own risk.Considering I thought the first Joker was the most overrated movie I've ever seen... I am really pretty excited for the sequel.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them. Can't read my Jo-Jo-Joker face.
"Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds! Lawrence!"
I kinda miss Joker being a goof sometimes like in the Burtonverse.
Mileena MadnessRemember when the Joker was funny and did silly clown things?
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. This song or I quite uselessly riot!
Found this video about Dwayne Johnson explaining his massive success in Hollywood, which includes some explanations over how Black Adam turned out the way it did
Turns out he has his own production company, Seven Bucks Production. They essentially draft movie rolls for him and help set up his roles in films. Guy has a huge team backing him up working around the clock managing his schedule from PR to whatever movie he's working on.
And Seven Bucks always works with any of the studios making a movie Johnson is starring in which means Johnson has some ownership in all the films he makes due to them partnering with his production company. Every movie roll is specifically crafted to play him, he doesn't need to audition or prepare to play a new character, and his production company has such fine tuned his schedule that when he finished filming one movie then he's immediately filming the next one. He's a movie making machine, he's crafted the perfect assembly line that will have him pumping out movies in quick succession.
And here's where we get to Black Adam. Okay so the original script for Shazam would have featured the origins for both Shazam and Black Adam. Everyone loved it and it was ready for greenlit except to Johnson who felt having 2 origins in one movie would be a "disservice to Black Adam".
So he convinced the higher ups to split into 2 so he could get his own movie. BA was then produced with his production company and another partnering company meaning Johnson had total control over the entire movie, including hiring a writer and director he previously worked with ensuring all the staff for the movie was handpicked by him. And that is when he began making his power play to take over the DCEU, using Black Adam as the starting point and planned on including more of his guys into WB.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
Eh saying it's awkward is overcomplicating it.
If the show is largely the same, except Flash is played by a different actor then there really isn't any issue.
