ITT: We're Animals in a Post-Apocalyptic Town

"Maybe we could climb on the wall to get over it?"

Gosh, I wish I knew something that could make us just float over this guy... (Wanda mumbles.)

Unfortunately, at that moment, the creature's eyes suddenly flick open.

"Uh-oh..." says Peter.

Krista gulps and tries not to panic as the Giant lizard awakens.

Jack stays close to Peter. "Should we run?"

Crapcrapcrap...! (Wanda mutters, trying to think of a spell to use.)

"I-I don't know," Peter says in response to Jack as the creature gets to its feet and looks around, "Maybe I can try to hold him off while you guys—"

Before he can finish his sentence, the salamander steps forward and... starts gnawing at the bag Peter is carrying?

"Huh...?"

"He's... friendly?" says Jack.

I hope that's what this is... (Wanda says to Jack as the salamander continues biting at Peter's bag.)

The salamander has now stuck it head inside Peter's bag and appears to be munching on something.

"H-hey!" says Peter, feeling startled. "Those are the berries I picked earlier!"

"Aww, see, he's harmless!" says Rena, now back to snapping pictures of the creature.

Yeah, but,,I don't wanna ssstay around thisss guy much longer...kinda creepsss me out.

Hey, at least he's not trying to eat us , right? (Wanda says to Krista, a bit relieved that the salamander doesn't seem to mean any harm to the group.)

"Yeah," Jack says with a chuckle. "Part of me wants to pet him."

After a while, the creature finishes eating and leaves Peter's bag on the ground. It then turns around and begins making its way towards the waterfall, where the group came from. Peter picks up his bag and looks inside.

"Oof," he says. "Not a single one left. But hey, at least we can make it through here now."

Yeah, but ssstill, I uh...kinda have a fear of thessse thingsss...

"Yeah... it is a pretty big salamander, after all," says Peter.

He leads the way as the group heads further into the cave. The path eventually starts to go upwards, and as the sound of the waterfall behind them grows more distant, he stops for a moment.

Huh... what was that sound just now? he thinks.

Jack notices Peter looking worried. "Peter, is something wrong?"

"I just... thought I heard voices just now," says Peter.

There are actually other people on this island?? (Wanda asks, looking around them.)

"Well... there shouldn't be anyone living here, as far as I know," says Rena. "Crystal Shores has been uninhabited for years."

Peter then remembers something.

"You know," he says quietly, feeling nervous, "earlier, when we were by the river, I thought I heard someone behind me..."

"So... someone's following us?" Jack shudders.

Jack turns around. "Hello?" he calls out.

(Wanda whirls around, too.) If anyone's following us, then they'd better show themselves before I make a raincloud appear over 'em! (She says.)

Or I'll bite 'em!

Krista quips as she looks back.

Peter hurries further into the tunnel as quietly as he can, to see if he can hear anything else. Eventually, he does, and this time, there's no mistaking it. Although they still seem to be somewhat far away, there are definitely two voices coming from up ahead.

Peter motions for the others to follow him. If they go where he is, they will also be able to make out what the voices are saying.

"Could be that group from earlier..." says a soft male voice. "We got what we needed already, so let us be off, yes? The sooner I get off this dingy island, the better."

"Hmph," says a second, deeper voice. "Are you scared of them?"

"Please. I simply don't have time to come up with an explanation for why we're here if someone sees us. Come on, now."

Krista stops one she catches up and hears the voices.

Who..they know usss?
