ITT: We're Animals in a Post-Apocalyptic Town

The group soon comes across the river the sound is coming from. It's fairly wide, being around thirty feet across. The flow of the water is definitely too fast for swimming to the other side to be a viable option.

Peter examines the map.

"Ah, I see the river here," he says. "According to this, there's a pretty big part of the island on the other side. We'll have to make it across somehow. Hmm..."

"Hmm... do we know if anyone lives here? There must be a bridge somewhere," says Jack.

I don't know anyone fromhwre.,,I don't think, anyway...

I guess if there isn't a bridge or anyone else who lives here we could just MAKE a bridge....somehow. (Wanda says.)

"A bridge... or some kind of boat," says Peter, thinking. "Do you think our boat could make it up here?"

"Unlikely," says Rena. "The river mouth is supposedly rather rocky and steep. No boat is going to make it up here from the ocean."

"A bridge seems like our best bet, then," says Peter. "Or a rope... do we have something that could be used as a makeshift rope?"

We could find ssstraw or sssomething, can't we?

Peter looks around.

"We could probably use some plants to make ropes, if they're sturdy enough," he says. "Let's try looking around to see if we can find any."

A place like this might have some vines somewhere, right? (Wanda asks as she gets to looking.)

Krista gets to sifting around the grounds to see if she could find any kind of vines that she could use.

Peter also starts looking for vines that can be used to make a rope. The rest of the group should be able to find some in the area.

Krista is able to locate a small bundle of vines nearby. She drags them over to the others.

"Alright, that should be enough," says Peter, coming over with some more plants. He starts working on making a rope with the vines they have, wrapping them together and tying the ends.

"I'll help you," says Jack, tying more of the vines.

(Wanda begins helping tie the vines as well.)

Krista also comes in to assist with the tying of the vines.

Once they're done, they have a fairly thick and sturdy rope made of vines that is more than long enough to reach the other side of the river.

"That looks good!" says Peter. "Now we've got to get it to the other bank. If you guys hold onto one end, I should be able to swim other there with the other. Hold on tight, okay?"

Sure thing, Peter. (Wanda says, taking their end of the vines.)

"Of course," says Jack as he helps hold Wanda's end.

Peter grabs the other end of the rope and jumps into the river. The current is quite strong, so he holds on as tightly as he can as he tries to make his way to the other side.

"Just a bit further..." he pants.

(Wanda cautiously eyes the water as she continues to hold on to their end, trying to make sure some monster doesn't show up out of nowhere while Peter swims across.)

Krista pretty much does the same.

Peter eventually makes it safely onto the bank on the other side. He ties his end of the rope tightly around a tree.

"There! You guys should be able to cross now," he says.

"Thanks," says Jack, though he looks really apprehensive about crossing the river..

While he waits for the others to cross, Peter takes off his boots to pour out the water that got into them. As he does so, for a brief moment, he has the impression that he hears some sort of noise behind him. He looks back, but no one is there.

Krista carefully slinks her way across, unaware of whatever may be troubling Peter.
