So that episode was awesome. Interesting that we've had two episodes in a row where the duo just cuts and runs instead of trying to fight the main threat. They're fairly smart about that. Shame the one witch died. She would have been a cool addition to the group although probably a bit too overpowered. I also wonder if we're going to see the coven leader again. She never got a proper fight with Spear and Fang but survived the events of the episode.
That was not the direction I expected the second half of the episode to take. Absolutely incredible.
So we have two more episodes of this, yes?
I think it's also been confirmed that a second and possibly third season has been greenlit.
Yes, I also read that Adult Swim ordered ten further episodes. But for now, two more episodes to go: The Night Hunter and Slave of the Scorpion.
Oh damn.
Show must be doing pretty well then.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Real talk, I find it a bit odd that these episodes are considered part of season 1. Like, I get they were ordered at the same time but it has literally been a year. At that point I'm not sure why we should consider it all one season.
Maybe it's due to how Adult Swim shows usually have seasons that are at least 10 episodes long, never less.
When I heard the premise for this episode, I was worried that the coven would be chanting using made-up words. Thankfully, they didn't say anything, they just kind of grunted or screamed. I like the notion that this show is set before the invention of any kind of spoken language.
When the series was announced, I got the impression that there would be ten episodes, and that's it. Now I'm wondering if Episode 10 wraps up Spear and Fang's story conclusively, or if its finale is open ended, leaving room for more. If the former, we may be looking at an Infinity Train situation, where each season follows new protagonists. The show is called Primal, a name that doesn't tie it to any specific character, so we could very easily just ditch Spear and Fang's altogether, so long as the world that has been established is intact.

The former is actually a way I hope the series could end up going.

You're right. If Spear and Fang's story in Episode 10 comes to a conclusion, we may go for a different story with different protagonists. A prehistoric woman, a kid or an old man, maybe, to have a Contrasting Sequel Protagonist?
I imagine that we'd also get a different animal character each time as well.
By the way, the caveman sacrificed by the witches in the last episode looks a bit like he forgot how to jump good.
At the end of the episode, did anyone else see Fang run up to Spear and lower herself so he could get on, then a cut to the two Coven members fighting, then repeating the animation of Fang running up to Spear and lowering herself so he could get on?
Yes, I saw it that way too, it was odd. It probably was an animation / editing error.

So I'm not going to spoil the most recent episode (it really has to be seen to be believed), but I will note that in the preview at the end, I saw what looked like a group of the ape-men from "Rage of the Ape-Men". Since all of the other antagonists in the show have only appeared in a single episode each, the possibility of the ape-men returning is an interesting one. Could this be setting up a story arc for the show?
I noticed the apes in the five-episode trailer. I first assumed they'd be from Scent of Prey, since that is a direct follow-up to the ape-men episode (though, looking back, it's not logical that they'd show up directly after Spear slaughtered them).
So the last episode of the season is next week, right?
Yep. The description mentions the duo meeting a far more developed human. I am very curious what that is going to be like. It doesn't look like the Yeti things in the teaser are what it means. And how developed are we talking? A simple farm or Neolithic settlement? Proto Egyptians or Mesopotamians? Atlantis?
Regarding the apes from the promo, my bet is that they'll appear in the first scene of the episode, as "yet another day in Spear and Fang's life", before giving way to the episode's true villains (the "more developed humans" from the synopsys).

Birth of the Genndy Tartakovsky expanded universe.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Between the giant humanoid bats and the shapeshifting masters of darkness? Yeah. ;)
In all seriousness though, Spear and Fang meeting other humans is something I'm kind of apprehensive about. One of the the best thins about the show is its lack of dialogue, and adding more humans— who would presumably be able to speak— into it would detract from that.
I freely admit I could just be reading way too much into things. The black liquid just seems pretty damn suspicious to me. It's too on the nose to not be an intentional reference even if it's not actually meant to be Aku.
