OK, here's where this thread is standing, with the unlocking:
Given the widespread backlash and complaining about certain aspects of the work (i.e. Dexit), we wanted to communicate very clearly what we are not willing to put up with: prolonged, circular complaining (or wonking).
Of course, with a controversial subject that has a large impact on the gameplay, Dexit is in one of those areas where there it may be on-topic to discuss it, but the nature of that discussion can wildly vary. As has been said elsewhere, we ix-nayed discussion of Dexit entirely because it never seemed to happen without devolving into that kind of complaining.
However, we're willing to unlock the thread after this 3-day cooldown period because the Pokemon General thread has been stable enough. And -
Can I discuss Dexit?
Yes. But if there is prolonged wonking on it, the thread just becomes an echo chamber of complaints and we do not like that. No one likes that. The same rules as ever apply. Be a constructive, healthy space. Have conversations about what you like, and what you don't like, but the thread should not get locked into a series of bitter complaints.
If you have questions or concerns about mod implementation or action, we have a thread for that here.
Alright? Thank you all for waiting this out. I hope we're all good now.

That's presuming we actually get a third version. Something we haven't had since Gen IV.
These are other names I came up with a long time ago, with the last two being of the same caliber.
The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests. You know, I've been thinking... Judging by the trailer, Pokémon battling seems to be a huge deal in Galar. Maybe it actually is treated as a great sports-entertainment tradition and a very important part of Galaran (?) culture. If the football parallels go further, it might even be common that trainers form teams or clubs. Which brings me to:
1. Story-wise, maybe the villainous team could be one of those clubs, involved with corruption, doping or any underhanded method to crush newcomers and have an edge over competitors;
2. Gameplay-wise, it would make sense if players could pick a team to root for or be a part of, kinda like Pokémon Go. Or maybe we could even make our own squads, who knows?
... And that's called jazz! That would just necessitate a team of six Squirtles, and I don't have time for that.
How great would it be if the villainous Team was just a huge Take That! at competitive players, and their heinous acts include breeding Pokemon against their will in the name of creating genetic perfect Pokemon, and over-training them to the point of torture in the pursuit of more power?
To demonstrate this, all of the Admins have Pokemon with maxed out IVs and optimal EV allotment.
Hell, have them make some reference to "wanting to be the very best, like no-one ever was".
I mean it would come off as a bit hypocritical because it's Gamefreak's decisions in game design that have made that kinda thing required. Beside the "breeding against their will" bit is way too dark for a kid's game.

The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. So, what Galaran Formes would you like to see?
Wake me up at your own risk. But the daycare man said my Dragonite and Charizard got along really well. He would know.
IIRC Pokemon breeding is always consensual. Also keep in mind that dumping pokemon (IE, the extra created by breeding) into a box and leaving them there forever is not necessarily cruel. Contrary to popular portrayal, pokeballs and the box are actually stated to be high-tech, luxurious VR playgrounds.
With doing a Take That! to such players:
- 1: Why insult fans of the game?
- 2: I know the anime had Paul as a Take That! to them. In fact, a lot of villains and intentionally-unlikable characters are heavily implied (if not outright stated) to be Arrogant Kung-Fu Guys who treat their pokemon harshly to squeeze every drop of power from them.
- 3: Moreover, this would only draw attention to Pokemon's Broken Aesop. The game preaches The Power of Friendship, and while that is a mechanic, it's not a very important one. The mechanics favor someone more akin to Paul.
How great would it be if the villainous Team was just a huge Take That! at competitive players, and their heinous acts include breeding Pokemon against their will in the name of creating genetic perfect Pokemon, and over-training them to the point of torture in the pursuit of more power?
Yeah, no. Competitive players are among the series biggest fans, participating in an officially-sanctioned activity. Besides which, the series doesn't want to seriously acknowledge any issues with it's setting, if how Plasma was written is anything to go by
Dor some reason, I imagined the villains being wannabe imperialists, but dunno if they could use something like that.
Wake me up at your own risk.Given how the last game's plot went, I'm expecting the story here to be small-scale and personal, so I don't believe we'll be seeing a big, bombastic villainous team. If we even have one at all
I know you're being a bit more specific but I'm just imagining walking round a new region, suddenly a fellow traveller locks eyes with me in the middle of a route: 'Hello! Fancy a game of chess?'
I really hope they revisit the idea of regional variants; I think they're a fun idea that put a little fresh spin on revisiting previous Pokémon. So I hope they don't just keep the idea to Sun and Moon and instead build on it a bit.
I don't really have many specific requests, other than it'd generally be nice to maybe branch it out and take a broader range of Pokémon than just some of the stand-out Gen I Pokémon. Although, as a small bit of worldbuilding, it could be fun to shove a few extra Kalos Pokémon in there — if Kalos and Galar are put together on the map as close as their original bases (which of course isn't necessarily the case). I'm not familiar with X and Y enough, though, to really make any good suggestions — Espurr and Meowstic look kind of cool?
I don't know which suggestion is funnier to me: that the game won't have villains, or that Game Freak would abandon a formula.
Oh, I wasn't suggesting there wouldn't be antagonists, I just think it's possible that we won't see a standard villain team
Going back to this, if we use 3DS software sales data from Nintendo themselves, we can see that the top five Nintendo franchises are Mario Kart (7 is #1, which might be skewed a little due to being bundled) Pokemon is number 2 (XY, SM, and ORAS take up numbers 2, 3, and 4, respectively), Super Mario (NSMB 2 and 3D Land take 5 and 6), Animal Crossing (New Leaf at 7th), and Smash (Smash 4 3DS at 8th place).
And we're likely going to see a repeat when it comes to Nintendo first party titles once the Switch hits its twilight years.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Punk rockers are the theme I'd like to see if it ties into the UK. If not, just music in general would be nice. It's a theme they haven't touched on at all. I'm definitely not trying to push towards a Sound Type. Nope. No sir or madame.
Alternatively, angry football fans of rival teams. Like, maybe they support a candidate for Pokemon champion and they're just the worst. They attack towns whenever there's a big match coming up or something. I dunno.
The villain team could really be anything.
Maybe Pokemon Bow?
Or maybe Spear after Rhongomiant from King Arthur if Sword and Shield are inspired by Excalibur and Pridwen

Silence is golden, noise is platinum. Keelah se'laiWeren't there rockers in Unova? I think they used mostly Electric Types.
Pokemon Gun is the popular meme choice.

Maybe a mostly male version of Gary's old fan club in the anime?
In any case, they could be either fans or the team itself. Maybe the team is using its supporters as Grunts and the actual members would be "Executives".
RE: Take That! against competitive: yeah, that wouldn't really fly unless there was a Reconstruction in the end. Note that breeding is portrayed as always consensual (Pokémon regarded as babies are simply not allowed to breed) and many EV training methods involving Pokémon playing - like cubs do, or like they do in The Promised Neverland.
... And that's called jazz! Most obvious is Roxie as that was kind of her thing. There have also been a few musical trainer types, most similar being Guitarist.
Roxie was a Poison-type specialist, btw. Elesa was apparently also an artist, but more electronic music-oriented, from what I've seen.
... And that's called jazz!I guess we'll have to see when it comes out, but at least whatever team is added, it is done well
Now I'm just thinking a punk rocker chick in leather as a gym leader.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau Project
Given that Pokemon has been releasing two versions for the Updated Re-release rather than one lately, it's probably going to be called Pokemon Shining Sword and Shining Shield.
