"We're going!"

"Off we go, then", said Nephenee, lumbering towards the bank along with everyone else.

New Barhaven

The group moves out of the docks and up some stairs with buildings on either side of the stairs. As they do so, some men were up near the top of the star where it opens up to the marketplace, handling a huge barrel of fine rum that's a good 7 feet tall to put it next to some other barrels. Suddenly the barrel slips from their fingers and it rolls barreling down the stairs towards the crew, taking up the width of the stairs as it does so.

Thinking quickly, Klamptrap swings his cannonball arm around a few times and launches it at the barrel, causing it to shatter and sending galleon of fine rum towards the crew. For members of the crew that have tasted rum before, if they tasted some of the rum during this they'll find it some of the best they've had.

Nephenee is now soaked with rum.

"... Beats getting crushed by the barrel, I guess", the mercenary sighed, smacking her lips a bit, "Doesn't taste half bad either, guess we can consider this a sudden free sample."

(Ira tries to shield the kids in their group from getting the rum in their faces and gets a faceful of it himself. He immediately spits it out.) P-too p-too Well...those guys need to p-too be more careful! Yeech...I hoped I would never have to taste any of that stuff again...

Kauri was spacing out, following the group until there's a bunch of loud, crashing noises, causing him to look up. Despite Ira's best efforts, Kauri still gets hit with a very much unhealthy amount of rum. Quite a lot gets in his mouth while the rest proceeds to simply drench the young boy. While he still got smacked by the wave, Ira taking the brunt of it prevented from Kauri being straight up swept away by it. On the other hand, he ends up accidentally swallowing a rather large bit of it.
And, goodness gracious, this stuff is disgusting. He spits the remainder in his mouth out and onto the ground, hacking and coughing as he tries to bring himself back from how strong the taste was.

Oh, no problem, but Melvin's- (Ira starts to say to the Sams when he realizes that he wasn't quite able to protect Kauri from the flying liquid.)

Oh, Kauri, did some of it get in your mouth? You okay? (He asks.)

"Gah!" says Victor, spitting out some rum. "This stuff tastes pretty strong..."

His throat feeling like it's burning, he coughs a bit. "Is everyone all right?"

His coughs also have some grunts and groans in between. Right now, he's only capable of saying singular words or short phrases.
"Swallowed", "So gross", "Smells bad", "Head hurts", etc.

Ezekiel blinks in the aftermath of the rum bath. Taking off his glasses, he wipes off the lenses and heaves a sigh as the scent of rum fills his nostrils. This was to be expected in Barhaven; you either got a drink, were given a drink, or were doused with it. Why, he had a drink poured on him his first time here.

There has to be somewhere around here where we can get some water for Kauri, isn't there? (Ira asks.)

Duane coughs upon being soaked in beverage.

God in... wh-Klamptrap!

The chest turns to Duane.

   So you'd rather be squashed dead by the barrel than me breaking it? Okay then.   

Jeez... don't mind me, man. I'm ornery, is all. Maybe I'm committing pirate blasphemy or something, but booze is only good on occasion. I've got nothing but contempt for these drunks who live off rum like mosquitos to swamp water.

Duane turns to Kauri. Don't you ever become a drunk, young man.

Sennen's initial reaction to being doused with the rum is flailing, spitting shock. Then she realises what, exactly, she's been doused in, and she gets to work licking as much of it off the exposed parts of her body as she can.

This series of events takes a bit for Gabrielle to process. It just came out of nowhere, and some of it got in her mouth... hey, was that rum?

Damn, they know how to make rum.

Gabrielle decides maybe Barhaven isn't that much of a dump after all. Well, except for the fact that she's now completely soaked in rum and smells like a shady tavern.

Yeah, this stuff can ruin lives. (Ira agrees with Duane. He realizes that that probably sounds hyperbolic to everyone else but...can he help saying that it can when he HAS seen it happen before?)

(Ira shakes the rest of the rum off himself.) Well, anyway, shall we keep going on to the bank, then? Hopefully without any further setbacks like this?

Kauri is starting to feel dizzy from the taste and smell.

Melvin gags when he tastes the rum. Hearing Duane warn Kauri against it reminds him of how Duane tried to help him break the habit when Melvin came to live with him.

"Yeah... don't end up like me, Kauri. This rum ain't even that good anyway."

New Barhaven - Marketplace

Klamptrap leads the group up the rest of the stairs and into the marketplace, which is where things really open up. There's a huge open space full of people and vendors, with several streets leading out. Along the sides of the nearby streets and the open space are actual shops.

In the center of the marketplace is a huge wooden platform that looks recently set up, with green banners on either side of it that reads "Dappington for mayor". There's several rows of seats in front of the platform. A hooded mage-looking guy puts up a sign in large print near the platform that reads "Dappington will make a speech here about the city one hour from now."

Klamptrap:   Say, didn't you guys wanted to get fruit for our pet or something? This may be a good time to split up as it's a large city and we may find supplies of interest to us for future journeys. We don't necessarily all have to go to the bank all at once after all...

Not a bad idea, but, uh, the Shard WAS the main reason we came here. (Ira points out as he looks for somewhere (anywhere, really) to get Kauri a clean glass of water. He asks the others:) We can get supplies after we get the Shard, right, guys?

(Speaking of the Sharkazil, it's currently a little ways behind everyone, looking around at the bustling marketplace. It looks as though all the activity going on around it is making it a bit nervous, going by the expression on its face. A few people are gawking at the strange creature as it follows the crew.)

"Yeah, I'd rather not delay this for now", said Nephenee, rubbing one of her shoulders, "I'm with Ira, it'd probably be better if we went to get the shard first and then we can probably come back here to do some shopping once we've got it."

"Please, Klamptrap," Ezekiel says scowling, "if there's any place that wears out its welcome faster than a...a bad metaphor, it's here."

He does look over the immediate inventories of the nearby vendors, however, the shine in his eye like a wide-eyed youth echoing a fleeting analysis of which items he could get away with stealing.
