The year is 1999. After the discovery of an alien relic from a long-dead race in Antarctica in the previous decade, rifts began appearing around the world. Pockets of phenomenal cosmic energy, effectively limitless power sources, the rifts would be key to creating new generations of technology that were previously incomprehensible to science. As a result of human nature, some nations and corporations chose to harness the power of the rifts with dreams of conquest, turning on their neighbors. Others chose to use this newfound technology for good, shielding mankind from these new threats. Regardless of their motivations, one common factor relates both sides: The use of stolen technology of extraterrestrial origin to develop powerful weapons of their own.

Weapons that happen to look like cute anime girls. While battles have been fought all over the world, combat has for the most part been focused near the rifts in a battle for control, these brave girls rising to the occasion and fighting each time a new rift appeared.

Until now.

The opening of the fiftieth rift changed the war. It changed everything man previously though they understood. The aliens whose technology they pilfered were not extinct. They were waiting. Waiting for the day mankind was advanced enough - and populous enough - to discover and harness the rifts. The rifts were not simply a power source. They were a data conduit.

And now, the aliens wanted to activate them. The invaders established a strong enough foothold to open The Big One. The Omega Rift. Located in the heart of Antarctica, the Omega Rift channeled a tremendous burst of power throughout the rift network, encasing the world in an energy field of unknown origin that has left the entire planet in stasis. Now, the world exists in standstill, every last human on the planet having their mind joined into The Network - a massive organic computer network used by the aliens to further their ambitions.

All of the world, save for a partially-decommissioned base in Hawaii.

Project S.H.I.K.I.K.A.N. had been activated.

The brainchild of a team of scientists who were ridiculed for their outlandish theories and incredible expenditures, the S.H.I.K.I.K.A.N. facility - and the small naval base in Kauai where it is housed - had been slated for decommissioning and its personnel prepared for relocation. Home to one of the smallest rifts, it was due to be converted into a supplemental power generation facility so that production could be shifted to larger rifts with enormous industrial capabilities. By a stroke of luck, no one had yet deactivated the AI core facility house deep within the base, at the heart of the rift. Channeling negative energy, it shielded the base and nearby areas from the stasis field, providing all those within with the means to venture out into the world without being consumed by the Network.

Now, in the hours following the end of the world, with allies and former enemies alike now forced to work together against this new threat, it is up to the contingent of girls who remain to reclaim the world from the alien menace.

If you've thought you've seen niche crossovers before, guess again.

Instead of being a crossover where you get kidnapped by some cosmic force and put into a new world, this takes place in a setting where the world is a hybrid bastardization of several settings. The "native" universes are Azur Lane, Girls Frontline, Kantai Collection, Strike Witches, Panzer Waltz, and Armor Blitz. The former three are the main focus, though, since I (or people I can ask) know them well. The latter two will have a much more minor impact on the world, but are there to increase character variety for those of you who want to play a tank girl. OmniEarth, conveniently called "Earth" by its denizens, is pretty similar to the Earth you and I know. The main difference is that during the eighties, things changed. Technology allowed for the creation of robot girls based off of guns, boats, and tanks, and by 1999, technology had shot forward enough to have all of the modern conveniences you and I know and love from 2018. Exactly how all these games mesh together isn't 100% clear - that's where you come in, since we can have all sorts of fun piecing things together in some light worldbuilding if the need arises.

As far as how the world looks, at the bare minimum we know that things are broken up (approximately) into the nations of Azur Lane. At some point in the last two decades, the nations have joined up into either the Eagle Union, Royal Navy, Sakura Empire, Ironblood, Eastern Radiance, North Union, and Iris Libre. These nations field massive fleets that they use to secure their shores, with mechanized units patrolling their lands. The Sirens and Abyssals are probably best thought of as either rogue nations or mercenaries, products of mad science and extremism that tried to capitalize on rift technology. The two largest PMCs, Grifon & Kryuger and the Sangvis Ferri Industrial Manufacturing Corporation, supply ground units for clients all over the world while warring against each other in the bombed-out ruins of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. "Magic" from Strike Witches is not actually magical and is instead magical in the Clarke's Third Law way, being the harnessing of rift energy. While extremely minor in times past, the opening of the rifts has mad this latent power more apparent in young women who get recruited as Witches. (Also while it's 1999 we can assume that modern music somehow happened to wind up existing anyway, maybe Darude was born 20 years earlier or Avenged Sevenfold released a LOT of music in 1999.)

Now, that's not to say you can't have someone from another setting who happens to be a moe anthropomorphization of military tech. After all, what's a gatcha without crossover characters? Instead of being a native to OmniEarth, your character, in true gatcha fashion, will be a summoned character who gets pulled into the world through the rift, and reborn as a machine. Just choose what sort of 'local' machine type you want them to be, and adapt them to some extent to fit into the world. This is intended for existing characters from another work who happen to fit the billing, such as a mecha musume of some sort from another game. Something along the lines of Lara Croft being a T-Doll just because she happens to be a woman who uses guns wouldn't work. Also let's try to keep things limited to one character per player for the time being - if in the future it feels like a good idea, we can expand at that point to allow a second.

One main difference between this and other games is the heavy focus on casual fun. A combination of the Cute Girls Doing Cute Things and Military Moe genres, this is basically Cute Military Girls Doing Cute Things. The majority of the RP will be spent on base (or on other bases and towns), your characters doing things between missions, like a version of Red Dragon Inn for moe weapon girls. You will still have your characters going on missions and ultimately having things result from that, we just aren't going to waste time roleplaying most of that.

Instead, we'll discuss things in Discord (or, God forbid, the discussion thread) about what base you want your girls to attack next, what your goals are, who breaks their leg, who finds something, if you manage to capture an enemy commander, and things of that nature. Then we'll have intermittent timeskips, and we'll roleplay the aftermath of each (hopefully) successful mission. As time goes on you'll get upgrades for your base, new allies, new vacation spots, and other cool things. There will be NPC filling the roles of workers and adjutants and generic troops on the base, but the 'important' characters will mostly be limited to player characters at the start. It'll be up to you guys if you recruit new allies to fight alongside you, researchers, engineers, and shopkeepers who supply you with cool new toys, officers who make sure to keep the new bases you encounter running optimally, and a whole plethora of other pals you can incorporate into things.

Now with all that said and done, here's the sheet.

Character Sheet
  • Name:
  • (Apparent) Age: Given that many of them are machines who are 'born' already as adults rather than flesh-and-blood people, having a "real" age would be useless, so for boatgirls and the like just list if they're supposed to look like they're 45 or whatever.
  • Type: T-Doll, Bote (either AL or KC type), Tank Girl, or Strike Witch
  • Appearance: A picture will suffice. Also please list their height.
  • Universe: Where they come from. The "native" universes are Azur Lane, Girls Frontline, Kantai Collection, Panzer Waltz, and Armor Blitz. If they are from another universe, then they're a crossover character who, much like in the mobile games, happens to have had their body "converted" into being a ship/doll/etc. (Such as the Guilty Gear, Neptunia, and Blaz Blue crossovers in Azur Lane and Girls Frontline). If you're not really sure if a certain girl would work as a crossover character, ask first!
  • Personality: Again, because there's so much of an emphasis on the 'hangin' out' aspects of things, make sure you have a good idea of your girl's personality. You don't need to be able to do some complex psychoanalysis of them, but if you can give a decent insight into how they act and why they feel about things, it could really give people some more hooks to latch onto when trying to find fun ways to interact with each other.
    • Likes: List a few things your girl likes. Pizza? Smooth Jazz? Teddy bears and soda pop? Cigarettes and whiskey?
    • Dislikes: And dislikes as well.
  • Powers and Abilities: While this may seem a little redundant given that we already know (roughly) what everyone can do, this is still useful for at least being able to look at someone's sheet and have an at-a-glance idea of what their specializations and strengths are. If you're playing a summoned character, try basing their abilities on an existing ship/doll/etc as a baseline, and then mention who you based it on so I (and everyone else) can get a rough idea what you're going for.
    • Armor Type: Either Light, Medium, or Heavy.
  • Skills: These are the things they can do off of the battlefield. Given that most of the RP will take place in a more casual setting, this is very important to flesh out. Can your boatgirl cook? Does your T-Doll know how to play the violin? Can you perform the tea ceremony? Do they like acting in propaganda? You don't want to get stuck having nothing to do cause your girl just wants to sleep all day and lacks any desire or ability to do anything else.
  • Anime OP: When things are looking bleak, and she's moments away from defeat, what song starts playing in the background that lets your girl turn the tide of battle?
  • Background: Keep in mind that things are going to be a little different from the original games, due to trying to weld together so many games at once. T-Dolls aren't from the future of 2062, boats and tanks aren't from WWII, instead they're products of a strange world where various nations and companies have created robot girls that are inspired by/throwbacks to military hardware. Try not to be too exhaustive and make up a bunch of superfluous history so that we don't have to try and piece together a lot of really different personal backstories.

Interested. You mind if I pulled a SRW character?

I can't really think of how to fit in a SRW person, but someone like a moe robot girl from Robot Girls Z as a tank (or something?) girl sounds like it would work.

Mind if I throw in someone from Strike Witches?

Actually I was originally including Strike Witches, I just didn't think it would be as popular as Azur Lane and Kan Colle and didn't include them ultimately. (In fact I even based part of the 'alien' bits on the Neuroi.) But yeah sure, Strike Witches are fine. I edited a little bit into the post regarding them.

Though... for the sake of the TVTropes content policy and my own sanity, I'm going to have to preemptively ban Lucchini for reasons that should be apparent.

  • Name: "Supply Depot"
  • (Apparent) Age: Mid-to-Late Twenties
  • Type: Boat (KC Abyssal Installation Type)
  • Appearance: This girl. Probably on the taller end, so 6'2" maybe.
  • Universe: Kantai Collection
  • Personality: Jaded, but not enough to let her escape all irritation that comes her way. Where she came from and where she ended up are no different; she ends up the butt of the joke of life more often than not. Pretty passive-aggressive, but rarely escalates beyond that. The exception is when you break her stuff. Devoted to her work, just not the parts that involve actually dealing with other people. She doesn't hold humanity highly, but she harbors a secret love of their culture...for what measure of culture you can assign to "shitty video games and music".
    • Likes: Obnoxiously loud music, video games, everything being where it should be, junk food.
    • Dislikes: Things that are entrusted to her or owned by her being broken or lost, loud people, nosy bosses.
  • Powers and Abilities:
    • Giant Hand Things: The proud owner of a pair of giant robotic hands. After inserting and fusing her arms with them, they're strong enough to open steel hulls like a can opener, but very heavy. She's strong enough to carry them, but not run around doing flips or anything. They don't come out of hammerspace, however, meaning she has to lug them around everywhere if she plans on using them. Most importantly, the process of fusing your flesh to metal isn't an immediately reversible process. Normally requiring a few minutes to safely decouple, she can forcefully remove her hands by leaving behind the flesh...which is not as painful as it sounds, but is still not something enjoyable.
    • Regeneration: The Abyssals are more biomechanical than their human-born counterparts. Like her relatives, S.D. can regrow flesh with ease. However, the internal structure and some organs aren't so lucky, and require the same kind of repair facilities shipgirls do. The issue is, repair technicians aren't really the best at this kind of strange technology.
    • I Whip My [REDACTED] Back n' Forth: That braid is prehensile. Stronger than iron, it can wrap around stuff, lift up great amounts of weight, and plugs in to the ball thing.
    • Li'l Ball Dude: That ball thing is, by all accounts, part of her body. One that is readily detachable and can act with its own will, though of limited intelligence. It can swim through water at speed and bite through steel, but can't move on land at all.
    • Digital Life Management: Beyond the wildest imaginations of anyone of the modern day, this strange woman's mind is capable of encompassing aural recordings of impossibly high fidelity and storing them within her own head, with nigh-infinite capacity. In other words, she's a lot better at storing and playing back audio files than any machine from 1999.
    • Armor Type: Heavy
  • Skills: Natural master of volleyball. Good at video gamez, audio editing, getting past copyright protection, cleaning things, not being able to see without her glasses and Jenga. Can't cook. Most importantly, she is literally built for logistics. She can mentally track hundreds of thousands of items, shipments and destinations within her head. What does this mean? It means that when she says "You can't 'borrow' five pounds of plastic explosive for a 'funny prank'", she probably is right.
  • Anime OP: Hideki Naganuma - Teknopathetic
  • Background: This strange war of ours never ran out of surprises, and sometimes they can prove pretty useful. The Abyssal Fleet, war-like things from under the sea who rise to attack regularly, have been a problem before this mysterious event and could only grow more bold in this time. A rare raid into their own territories in the pacific allowed for the capture of one of their own, a minor leader. What was offputting to everyone involved was how willing this one seemed in cooperation. They wondered if she might have been an intentional plant...and what do you do with spies?
    • Why, you just give them a desk job on the beaches of Kauai! She seemed more comfortable working inhumanly long hours than she did in custody, and having someone with an almost supernatural ability for logistics kept as far away from the front lines as possible was a risk they attempted to take. When she gave nothing in response besides grumbling and incredibly increased efficiency, what else to do but keep her there? It's not like she was a problem!

  • Name: Z-Chan
  • Age: Around 17.
  • Type: Tank Girl (based on Mazinger Z of course.)
  • Appearance: A brunette wearing a Mazinger Z-themed outfit. Her helmet indicates the Hover Pilder from the original Mazinger Z and her gloves are the rocket-powered fists of Mazinger. Around 4'10” in height. The crest on her jacket is based on the heat sinks that fire Mazinger Z's Breast Fire.
  • Personality: Z-Chan's extremely hot-blooded. As a result, she's impulsive and will often make rash decisions if it suits her mood. If she gets upset, she will pick fights with the person who made her mad in the first place. She's a delinquent, so she will often ignore the rules to mess with the authority figures. Despite her rough exterior, she's pretty nice once you get to know her.
    • Likes: Giant robots, yelling the names of her attacks to emphasize their power, motorcycles, fair fights, Sentai.
    • Dislikes: Anything that claims to be a “deconstruction” of popular genre, being pragmatic in combat, anticlimaxes
  • Powers: Since she's essentially Mazinger Z in cute girl form, she has access to Mazinger's signature attacks.
    • Rocket Punch: Z-chan clenches her hand like a fist and launches her glove like a rocket. Z-chan uses her Hover Pilder to control the glove like a guided missile. It can return if Z-chan commands it. The glove can sprout blades for added damage. Z-chan can also add power to her Rocket Punches with her Daisharin Rocket Punch technique. She spins her arms around and around before launching her Rocket Punches like usual.
    • Rust Hurricane: Z-chan spits out a stream of corrosive air. According to Z-chan, she doesn't like using this because it gives her allies the impression that she has bad breath.
    • Koshiryoku Beam: Z-chan fires eye lasers. They're pretty weak and are often used to distract an opponent or shoot down projectiles. There's a rapid-fire version known as the Barrage Koshiryoku Beam. The barrage version obviously strains her eyes, so she might accidentally hit friends while doing this.
    • Breast Fire: Z-chan fires a burst of heat energy from the crests on her coat. If she focuses hard enough, the heat can reach up to 30,000 degrees Celsius. There's a variant known as Dynamic Fire Nova, a Breast Fire fired point-blank at her opponent. She can't use this move in rapid succession because it causes her to heat up quickly.
    • Reito Beam: Z-chan can spit blasts of ice from her mouth. She can make the temperatures can go as low as -180 degrees Celsius. Using this can give her a mighty brain freeze headache.
    • Drill Missile: Z-chan fires tiny needle-like missiles from a hidden compartment in her gloves.
    • Jet Scrander: Z-chan wears a jump pack to give her flight capabilities. It used to fly her around, but she broke it in a fight with mechanical beasts. It gives her added leaping power, though. It comes with hidden shurikenz
    • Big Bang Punch: Z-chan turns into a giant golden fist. This is essentially a gigantic version of her Rocket Punch.
    • Armor: Medium
  • Skills: Z-chan's a good chef, but only with casual food. She doesn't know how to cook fancy, pretentious food at all. She also knows her way around a motorcycle and can turn on a nickle. She's also good with riding bicycles. She's also a good singer, but this is limited to only hot-blooded songs. Anything else and she flounders miserably.
  • Anime OP: The Guardian by JAM Project
  • Background: As a mad scientist, Juzo Kabuto always wanted to make a Tank Girl of his own. But seeing as everyone has done that already, he decided to put a twist on it. What if this robot girl were based on his scrapped Mazinger Z plans? After all, no one wants to see an ugly mecha stomping around downtown Tokyo. A cute girl aesthetic might get people to change their minds on Juzo's Mazinger Z project.
    • One day, Juzo and Z-chan were having a nice picnic together until a strange portal whisked Z-chan off into another world. Will she survive the madness until she gets a chance to return?

Like what I see so far. Though Josh if you could change the "jet" pack to a "jump" pack of sorts I'd appreciate it, I'd like to have tank girls be the land-based superstars, and leave unrestricted flight to the flying girls.

I also added some more tidbits to the OP to try and flesh things out a little more, if that's of interest to anyone.

  • Name: Kagerou
  • (Apparent) Age: 15-ish
  • Type: Bote
  • Appearance: 5'3
  • Universe: Kantai Collection
  • Personality: As one blunt person affectionately put it, Kagerou is "stupid and straightforward." And while she's not the most academically inclined, Kagerou is an experienced fighter who tries to make up for her aversion to book-learnin' with common sense and daring. She is cheerful, vigorous, and optimistic, never met someone she wouldn't try to strike up a conversation with or goof off with. That said, she feels very responsible towards the people she lives with, pushing herself to be a good role model for those younger than her and occasionally getting snappy when she feels like she failed to live up to her own expectations.
  • Likes: The beach, snacking, horror movies, baseball, fighting.
  • Dislikes: Waiting, books with no pictures, being ignored.
  • Powers and Abilities: Stronger and heavier than your average human. With her gear on, she can 'skate' on the surface of water as well as use the guns and torpedoes connected to her. For defense, a normally invisible barrier surrounds her which can block damage to an extent. It becomes briefly visible upon impact.
  • Armor Type: Light
  • Skills: She might not look like a chef, but Kagerou is actually a decent cook. Can pitch with the best when playing baseball. Wound up being something of a baby sitter on more than one occasion.
  • Anime OP: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid
  • Background: First of a series of shipgirls who took their inspiration from the IJN Kagerou-class destroyers. She was built in Japan but has served throughout the waters of Southeast Asia and Australia. Her last mission was the first time she had gone as far as Hawaii. Kagerou took to life with gusto, whether it was on the battlefield or building relationships with fellow shipgirls. She was especially close her nearest in age 'sister ships' but looked out for all her over a dozen sisters, together making life lively wherever they went, if for no other reason that the younger ones kept getting into trouble and Kagerou had to run damage control before anyone found out. The group was separated when Kagerou was wounded in battle. Left behind in Hawaii to recuperate, it was this stroke of bad luck that ended up working in her favor when she was protected by the S.H.I.K.I.K.A.N. facility's shield.

Everyone looks good, I updated the OP with links to everyone.

Also considering that we have Christmas in two days, followed by New Year's, I'm going to guess that most people will be pretty preoccupied by the holiday season. For that reason I think I'll target starting things on January 7th.

#14: Dec 26th 2018 at 2:27:30 AM

I finally settled on who I want to use, as well.

  • Name: Graf Zeppelin
  • (Apparent) Age: 30ish
  • Type: Carrier - Azur Lane Type
  • Appearance: Behold the horn of the black goat. She's on the taller side of things so I'm gonna say 6-foot-even. Also summer variant
  • Universe: Azur Lane
  • Personality: Zeppelin is a bit of an oddball. Her personality is dominated by grandiose delusions and a strong sense of self-consciousness combined with pessimism about the rest of the world. An odd combination of perky and dark, since she might exhibit the same signs as someone who's bubbly and exuberant... except punctuated with and 'edgy' or even bitter and pessimistic attitude. As if there were a nugget of kindness and tenderness buried deep inside that she conceals with excessive fanfare, and then wraps up with a slight hint of malevolence and morbidity that helps her stay at arm's-length from people.
    • Likes: Capes, the feeling of a silky smooth cape on your back, wearing her jacket like a cape, Lovecraftian works and references, black and red, gesturing emphatically, being dramatic and theatrical, being kinda goth sometimes, being very chuuni most of the time, insisting that she doesn't really like something even though she totally does, reading, watching TV and movies, beach funtime, owari da funebre.
    • Dislikes: Realism, not having anything to do, religion, lacking a grand purpose for existing.
  • Powers and Abilities: The usual of being able to swim good, carrying a heavy-ass ship around without much problem, and being able to hide said heavy-ass ship when not needed. As a carrier-type boat girl, she has two squadrons of bombers and a squadron of fighters (Messerschmitt Me-155A). She has some seriously big guns (yes, very funny), with secondary cannons comparable to a battleship's. Her rigging is a big wide three-headed dragon (with four eyes per head) where she casually sits on the central dragon, but it can morph into a single big dragon ship that's like ten feet long (and a cute small lil' secondary dragon barely two feet long) if she's feeling like enjoying the summer heat. She seems to be immune to electrical discharges, and occasionally has visible electrical bursts running around her/her ship. Her exhaust is located in the dragon's mouth(s) so it can be very, very hot to the touch there. While she only has medium armor, she has a lot of vitality, shrugging off a considerably larger amount of damage than other capital ships in her armor class. She's good at 'motivating' other Ironblood ships in battle to resist somewhat more damage than they normally would, and her (Ironblood) planes are significantly more efficient and effective than they normally would be.
    • Armor Type: Medium
  • Skills: Reading complicated stories, creative writing, (figuratively) cracking the whip, looking at stuff that's really far away.
  • Anime OP:
  • Background: Originally developed in the early days of the post-rift era, when the EU had only just broken up into several new successor states, Graf Zeppelin's class was put on pause as ship development favored other types. This left Graf with no real responsibility as she was practically dry-docked. In order to deal with being bored to death, she spent a good deal of her time consuming media. She was enthralled by the stories they told, of heroes and villains conflicting in great struggles, of magic and powers, and of other worlds. But she particularly came to love the more cosmic tales. Stories of dark gods and old ones. Tales where fantastic cosmic forces battled it out, and where Earth and humanity were but mere footnotes in the history of the universe.

Eventually, after over a decade of being a base body, someone in the chain of command finally approved her for service. By this point she had developed a set of rather... atypical... quirks. Her resulting service led to other ships being a little weirded out, and she tended to get assigned the more remote work that took her away for extended periods of time, including patrolling in the far Pacific, which led to her being near Hawaii....

  • Name: Kawakaze
  • Age: Early 20s.
  • Type: Destroyer (torpedo carrier).
  • Appearance: Normal clothes, Formalwear as for her height? She is pretty tiny being a destroyer, somewhere in the 150cm range.
  • Universe: Azur Lane
  • Personality: At first glance Kawakaze is a pretty serious girl, who sees herself as a living weapon... and on the surface not very much one for ideality... This is just a facade she places over herself to try and protect herself, the reality of the mater is that she wants nothing more then the very things she pretends not to like.
    • Likes: Fishing, Drawing, Relaxing Activities, Video games, Floral Care.... Cute Clothes and Animals (You will never get her to admit to these ones)
    • Dislikes: Loud and Disruptive Activities, Idiots, Ideals (At least according to her out loud)
  • Powers and Abilities: Pretty comparable to Kagerou, they are both IJN destroyers manufactured within a short time of each other.
  • Armor Type: Light for a bote.
  • Skills: She is pretty good at the things listed under her likes, she also is pretty proficient with swordsmanship... which isn't exactly a skill that is all that useful in actual combat, but sure sure knows it well.
  • Anime OP: brotherSisterhood
  • Background: Kawakaze was the third of an improvement on the previously built Shiratsuyu class destroyer, sometimes called the Umikaze class.... Along with her sisters they formed the 24th Destroyer Division... serving the Sakura Empire the world over. Her career is one of a mixture of distinction and un-notability... Which is to say that there is no one single moment that is capable of defining her history, but she has always punched well above her weight class... getting into scruffs that cruisers would find fitting for them and emerging victorious through liberal application of torpedoes... It is this knack for managing to make it through that has allowed her to find her way to the Project S.H.I.K.I.K.A.N facility.

I'm going to start keeping a list of important NPCs you guys rescue. I'll keep it updated.

  • Name: Honolulu
  • Type: Light Cruiser (Azur Lane)
  • Appearance: Link
  • Location: Pearl Harbor
  • Notes: Manages the naval base at Pearl Harbor.
