I'm actually pretty excited for this remake. I like the 1937 one with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, but...I haven't seen the Streisand one...or the Judy Garland one...Okay, so maybe I need to watch those, too.
It's also strange seeing Gaga like... a human being? Like without all the extra stuff she surrounds herself with.
Was the Streisand one a musical version of the star being born? Because this one, from the trailers, looks like it's country music or something instead of acting like the Gaynor and Garland one.

"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."I try to avoid Barbra Streisand at all costs, but yes, I believe the 1970s version was music-based, with her and Kris Kristofferson.
I've only seen the 1937 version. I've tried to watch Judy's version and the '70s version but neither are particularly interesting to me. When I heard it was being remade again, I thought it was an "old Hollywood" Period Piece. It's a Setting Update, however.
Barbra Streisand makes my ears bleed. The 1937 and 1953 versions are both very solid.
Dollars to doughnuts Lady Gaga gets an Oscar nomination out of this flick.
An enthusiastic rave at Slate.
Dave Chappelle is in this movie!
This is a movie that I have no doubt will be objectively good but I have a less-than-zero desire to see it. It does look great, though.

I'm pretty excited. Reviews say first half is very good, then sort of slows down after the climax but I'm still interested.
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."I'm kind of the same. In a way I feel morally obligated to go see this, because it doesn't have a superhero in it, but the fact that I've literally seen it twice before...anyway, that Lady Gaga song sure is good, and it's gonna get Oscar nominations for everything.
This has gotten great reviews but I'm concerned it's one of those "celebrities congratulating themselves for being celebrities" movies, which isn't exactly the message we need in the Age of Weinstein...
A celebration of celebrity?? The story is about a guy who's jealous of his wife's fame and drinks himself to eventual suicide. They never glorified it; it's the sad demise because of fame.
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."Oh... wow. Well I didn't know that now did I?
Ah, sorry. Didn't mean to spoil anything... but it has had three previous incarnations. I thought everyone was familiar with it.
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."It's an 80 year old story. Either this will go Not His Sled and you're wrong (and actually improving his viewing of it by creating that context) or you're just letting him know the sled from past versions.
I am concerned about them going with the former given it's such an old tale and they might want to change it up, but I highly doubt he's going to have himself a happy ending.

Hop on over to this page and add them.If they do change it, then I imagine it will play out like him recovering but never getting her back but gaining satisfaction in being a musician who no longer is ridiculously famous. But it's okay because he survived.
If he dies though, I don't mind: it's a tragic tale and loses some tragedy if he doesn't die. Maybe he doesn't die by suicide but he dies by being forever an alcoholic who squanders his talent.

"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."Saw it last night. It's a great movie. I highly recommend it.
"In 900 years of time and space I've never met anyone who wasn't important."Watched it. Fantastic movie. I'm also really surprised by the soundtrack which has a lot of great songs.
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."Just saw it. Pretty damn good.
Ok, FUCK that manager with a cactus, what the hell.
I found this good Atlantic article about all the iterations throughout the years of the Star is Born narrative.
"It's true that we had a gentleman's agreement, but unfortunately, I am no gentleman."Filmstruck subscribers: All three prior versions of "A Star Is Born" are available.
Amazon Prime subscribers: The 1937 version is available.
Every 20 years or so they have to remake this movie, and the latest one is rolling around in 2018, starring and directed by Bradley Cooper.
Apparently it's outstanding, based on advance word from critics.
Also, Lady Gaga is the female lead, and this is how she looks◊ when she isn't all dolled up.
