Super Smash Bros Ultimate (SPOILER Thread)

There has been no official word on the relationship between a character's inclusion as a spirit and their chances at being DLC. People are running off their best guess.

As far as I know, the DLC characters were decided on after the game went gold. They could potentially go back and make a character that they had to pass over previously. We really don't know, however.

didn't reggie say they would be new characters? I wouldn't expect any spirits to become fighters then because they are already ingame.

That's certainly one interpretation. Any character they add from here on will be new, however. People are getting very twisted up about the degree of new-ness that's required.

I'm pretty sure he just meant "new" as in they've never been playable before.

I really think we shouldn't overanalyze anything Reggie said after Joker was announced. The biggest takeaway was the "unexpected characters" aspect.

Crash is Activision-owned, and... I don't really see Activision being willing to let Nintendo use their characters

That's taking the broadest possible reading of a bit of promotional puffery. I kinda doubt Reggie went and cross-checked the spirits list and the DLC list before he said that

Yet Activision was to allowed to use both Donkey Kong and Bowser in Skylanders. Nevermind that they have happily let Crash be part of the switch and also allowed other titles of their I Ps in the switch.

Activision may have a terrible reputation among the western part of videogame fandoms but they have a good relation with nintendo. Again, Konami has a lot of representation in this game.

Crash (along with Minecraft) are probably the two Western IPs that have the best chance of getting in.

I agree, unless Microsoft starts pushing for a new (and proper) Banjo-Kazooie Sequel...

Aside from Minecraft, is Microsoft letting any of their properties go on rival consoles?

I mean, Minecraft is in both PS 4 and Switch.

I think Rayman also has a pretty good chance as far as Western I Ps go.

I just thought of something; Are there any videos showcasing how the stage bosses on Dracula's Castle work? I want to see if Kid Dracula really does get in on the action.

He doesn't. None of them are bosses at all. They show up, look cool, and leave. Kid Dracula just has the little silhouette cameo.

Here's my theory on how the dlc works: a bunch of game execs from sega,microsoft,square etc. (and hopefully grasshopper) printed off a sheet of their ip's, like sega's sheet had joker,demi-fiend, kiryu,beat from jet set radio, billy hatchet, nights etc. nintendo reviews the sheet, then sakurai picks from there. hence why joker is such a mad man mashed potato samurai decision. to be far, if your a 3rd party developer, who cares what nintendo picks? your pocket is still going to be crying for mercy anyway,And on top of that nintendo is filled with promoted fanboys anyways.

and as for the whole banjo vs steve debate, microsoft has let their own ip's onto portable nintendo consoles in the past, banjo and sabrewulf on gba, viva pinata and originally a mf halo game on the ds, on top of that they can use smash to get a whole new generation hooked on the googly eyed, sexual innuendo filled world of banjo, plus that they've got figures to sell, even if there's no banjo-threeie or remake in development. hell they even let rare develop remakes for donkey kong country 1,2,3 and diddy kong racing on nintendo. and they've negotiated the rights of the ambiguously copyrighted characters like tiptup or drumstick from diddy kong racing. So I think phil put banjo on "the list" because he even said he wasn't against the idea of banjo in smash. and madman mass hero soccer guy probably chose banjo, he has gone on record saying he wanted banjo in smash ever since 64/melee and on top of that the fans have been begging for banjo since 64. .They have been cockteasing banjo for years, 'nuff said.

Me: I wonder just how obscure third parties would even be willing to get in terms of Smash inclusion...

I probably should rethink my whole "third parties will only offer things that will promote upcoming games" stance. I know that DLC is a whole other beast from Spirits, and yes both Monolith Soft and Bandai Namco are all on board with Smash, but I never thought any Baten Kaitos references would make it in.

I'm also more than a little amused that Aisya of Archaic Sealed Heat got in as a Spirit. I'm wondering if that means we might get another Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros." with the DLC.

Archaic Sealed Heat is a nintendo ip, the spirits have gotten pretty obscure, ever hear of disaster day of crisis on wii? also namco has as much say as nintendo, hence why were getting obscure nintendo/namco spirits but nothing like billy hatchet, Saga or godhand levels.

Yup! Sagi too - you could see him in the November direct when they first introduced the concept. I haven’t found him yet, but I did get Milly on the spirit board. Glad to see Nintendo remembers Baten Kaitos, even if it’s just little things like this.

...Wonder why it’s just Origins, though? Between that and the one song, I mean. Not that I’m complaining, because I’m a thirsty-ass fangirl who loves both games equally and appreciates any acknowledgement they get, but I was under the impression that the first game was better known. Wonder why it wouldn’t get a nod somewhere?

So will the Piranha Plant be available later? I bought the Season Pass and put in the code, but I don't see any Plants.

It’l be available later. Before the other DLC characters, though.

Plant should come out around February-ish.

It's not a part of the season pass though.
