Yeah, I kinda gave up watching the video in the middle for how weak it was. Like, I usually don' consider most Geoff's take on anything to be particularly great, but this one was weirdly bad. He was making a ton of assumptions and not exploring what he was talking about properly. That insistence that visual horror is the most important thing is weird.
And, yeah, thinking the Promised Neverland as a horror is bound to be disappointing. Specially because, imo, it will never be that good on that front as long as it sticks to the manga as close as it is. One of the problems with anime adaptations, specially shonen anime adaptations, in my view is their insistence on trying to mimic the manga at everything, including "camera" work. But visual language of manga and anime is very different. The sudden appearance of Mama in episode 2 is an example. In the manga, it is shilling, in the anime it is just weird and overly played out.

I actually thought the anime pulled that scene off really well… More generally it doesn't quite resort to the same techniques as the manga − instead of the Page-Turn Surprise technique, it takes more time to build up the scares (the reveal in episode 1 is a good example).
But yeah… the video was kinda weak, or at least very incomplete in its arguments. It's also weird that he complains Gakkou Gurashi doesn't explore the implications of Yuki's delusions further… when that's exactly what it does, if I remember.
I mildly enjoy the work of Geoff in Mother's Basement but his problem is that, every now and then, he has shades of not having a clue of what he's talking about and mistakenly thinking he actually does. The videos on visual horror, the netflix death note adaptation and specially the one about Uncharted (which is complete and unadultered nonsense) are the hallmarks in that regard. I learned to just roll with it, these days.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."like with Arkada/Glass Reflection taking comedy anime seriously, as he with Nozaki-kun. he thought it was a romantic comedy, but it's actually a romantic comedy.
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistI kinda wonder if there is some reason why animetubers in general don't seem to know what they talk about as well they think they do ._. Like is it because they like the whole media so they don't specialize in anything?
I mean, its not like there are Live Television critics who review EVERY live action tv show
There's also a thing where youtubers tend to drop weaker content during "off months." I don't know the analytics, but January is considered a bad month for You Tube, so saving good content for later is encouraged by the algorithm.
Also, the main problem I have with his argument is that he says that tension/build-up needs a suitable "scare" as pay-off. For many works the tension/build-up is the horror element. It's why Steven King works tend to end on what feels like an anti-climax. Resident Evil 2 is not scary on it's own, but the tension you get from hearing Mr. X walking down the hallway or seeing a licker crawling along the ceiling is. Even works that fall outside the usual horror trappings have this quirk. Steins;Gate is all build-up. Gruellingly slow at first before ratcheting up the tension at that one point.

Because they're humans who make mistakes and most of whom do not have professional writing skills.
They do kind of do it for living though, so they aren't amateurs anymore
You can do something for a living and still be horrible at it. Youtube has proven this to me very clearly, as well as many big names in the news.
Geoff just posted a new video about one of the most hyped RomComs in years, thanks to the manga being VERY well received

Not a Rom Com fan. Used to like them, but I ended up becoming less of a fan over time.
And Kaguya Sama doesn't look like it will change my tune on them, either.

Definitely on the "Skip" side of Romantic Comedies in general.
Forward Romantic Comedy.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Is the show dubbed yet? I'm interested in watching it.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?not that i know of, though there may be a dub in the coming months, given it's popularity
Bumbleby is best ship. busy spending time on r/RWBY and r/anime. Unapologetic SocialistI usually love rom-coms, but for some reason Kaguya just didn't grab me after reading 20-25 chapters a year or so ago.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobI get my dose of rom-coms from V Ns, personally. If it's anime I prefer action.
maybe Gigguk's thoughts on it could help you decide if it's for you

"...Look Handshakers, If I wanted to watch Boku No Pico... I'd just fucking kill myself"
ROFL
Ah Hand Shakers. Seeing that prolonged trainwreck again brings back so many memories.
And now it has a sequel.
W'z might actually be worse the original.
The video in question.
