...Wut?
Look, you're just being obtuse for the sake of it now. The movie had evolution is a theme among it, and a mushroom person evolved into a more human mushroom person. I don't know why this is being treated as something that's beyond unbelievable. It was a neanderthal becoming a more regular human within the movie, as that was exactly the idea behind it. Natural evolution. They chose two characters who coincidentally were blatantly mushroom-based. One that was a humanoid mushroom, and the other a regular mushroom with a face and legs. Really, the fact they didn't look very accurate at all to the actual characters in SMB is an actual issue, but that's a problem the entire movie had.
It's no wonder that the actors who played the Mario Bros. were drunk while acting(though they were extremely coherent despite this, and did a pretty amazing job with that in mind).
Though I'd love if they explored the Goomba - Toad thing in the actual games, since it's not a remote stretch of an idea anyway.
I was referencing Goombas being named after chestnuts...in Japan.
I'm not even sure where Goombas defecting from the Mushroom Kingdom came from.

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.The Goomba's backstory came from the original manual for Super Mario Bros.. It's on page six.
I seriously couldn't tell, hence why I said you were being obtuse. Well, now I get what you mean. Meh, errors in communications happen.
Anyway, it should be fun what they do for a story. Oh, who am I kidding, it'll be Bowser kidnapping Peach again. XD
I wonder if that part is now considered ignored history, due to the fact that he has never been used again in any other game.
I have a feeling it will be awful. Not because of Illumination, but because it's a video game movie.
At least it's not Sony like with the early leaks. Sony is my least favorite animated movie company, if only for The Emoji Movie. Illumination has the good Despicable Me franchise, The Secret Life of Pets was nice and cute, and I actually liked The Lorax. (It has a lot of problems, but it doesn't deserve its reputation)
As for celebrity voices, I'm sure celebrities would be lining up to play Mario, Peach and Bowser. After all, everyone is a Mario fan, just to smaller degrees than others.
Well the word of it being animated this time automatically guarantees me rewatch quality at least.
There is a very high chance of the characters being recast. Unlike Disney, I doubt SONY has a policy that they must only use one/a few actors for the same character across all facets where he appears.

I'm curious is Charles Martinet will voice Mario in the film, or if they'll cast someone else. And if they do cast someone else, if that person will then voice Mario in future games (especially if the movie does well). Martinet's been Mario's voice for 23 years, would be sad to see him pushed aside of at least voicing future games.

I don't think this movie is going to be more popular than the main games.
Where there's life, there's hope.Nintendo would never change something in their games based on what an American adaptation did, so regardless of whether he's in this movie Martinet's job security is likely safe.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Indeed. Nobody told Charles Martinet to "sound like Lou Albano or Bob Hoskins," so I think the film will stand on its own without any regard to how they handle the games. This may be for better or for worse.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Shigeru Miyamoto discusses the movie.
As a producer, Chris Meledandri (Illumination's CEO) is noted here for movies like Minions and Sing, but he is a veteran with a ton of experience, including the movie Ice Age and stints at companies like 20th Century Fox Animation. When I talked with Chris, he said he had read a lot of interviews with me and felt we had a similar approach to creation. Talking about our similarities, we clicked and decided maybe we should do some kind of collaboration. We started our conversation over two years ago, and finally reached the stage where we could make an announcement. Chris is extremely cost-conscious and time-conscious in his quest to make successful movies. We decided to try making a movie together, and distributing the completed movie globally through Universal Pictures.
We've talked together and share the feeling that if we can't make something interesting we'll just call it quits. But we've already met a number of times to hash out the screenplay, our talks together are progressing, and I hope to make an announcement once we've ironed out some things like the schedule.

That's a very Nintendo approach to movies.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThis makes me more nervous.
You're working with the guy behind the last three Ice Age movies and Minions. You should have called it quits at the start. also, way to be a stingy, cheap businessman, Miyamoto. But don't you think quality should come before cost?
"We be we baby!"Actually Chris Meledandri had no involvement for the last three Ice Age movies, that was Chris Wedge
But even still, they actually didn't created them... just produced them, no need for the insults, it's just a movie

I mean, it's the first Super Mario movie since the Bob Hoskins one, so it's pretty natural to get nervous about this one.
That said, please don't insult Miyamoto like that, it's not cool. If anything, we should be glad he's taking a more hands-on approach and that it isn't coming from something and someone more incompetent like, say, Sony Pictures and Avi Arad, respectively.

Let's just hope that even if it's bad it will be So Bad, It's Good.
I hope so, But Nintendo is a powerhouse company. I'm sure they havesomebody in the company would have loved to animate a Mario movie and the tools and techniques to do it. Just seems pretty odd to shift the job over to Illumination instead, but then again we all thought + Rabbids was gonna suck, and it ended up being awesome all round. I'm just nervous this won't be good.
"We be we baby!"I honestly have to wonder whether there even is a good movie to be made from Mario. Is the charm of the Mario series something that can survive being separated from the gameplay experience? I'm honestly inclined to think, no.
There's the anime movies. Those were adequate.
"We be we baby!"I personally enjoyed both the Super Mario Bros Super Show, and the Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3 cartoons. So yes I do think that it's possible to make a good animated Mario movie.
Well its is possible to tell a great story out of Mario.
Its been proven in video games through the many Mario RPG games (Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi, etc).
It can be done in animated media (Super Mario Bros 3 comes to mind).
Some comics and mangas have some stories worth investing in (Super Mario-Kun . . . which I haven’t read but I did read that Super Mario Adventures comic)
And I will probably be in the minority here, but I do like some of the story elements of the live action movie (namely the characterization of the title heroes and the whole interdimensional invasion plot).
All that and the anime movie and a full length Mario story is a possibility. Hell, Mario did starred in the earliest examples of a video game with a story (Donkey Kong).
It helps now that there's more material to wok wok with.
The anime OVA may have been faithful to the manual, but even that couldn't fill an entire thing...

Did Super Mushrooms evolve into those Chestnut guys?
