[up][up]Of course there's outrage. And then there's counter-outrage because everyone wants to be right and everyone has to yell at each other because this is just one more front in the never-ending culture war to shape how our children act and no one wants to make something everyone can enjoy anymore. It's about being on the right side of history or some such nonsense.

Do we know how many episodes Netflix committed too? With Voltron they committed to 76 right off the bat which is in my opinion, insane. I can't see the same thing being done here.

What happened to Western Animation as of late?

Judging from the types of people pissed off, good things.

If it's provoking these kinds of reactions from the usual suspects? I can only say good.

[up]You mean people who liked the old show? This is exactly what I was making fun of!

Although this does seem to lean into the assumption She-Ra had a big Periphery Demographic, same as Sailor Moon did. That’s not a bad thing but I’m willing to bet said demographic is nonexistent here.

[up]When I see people harassing creators and using homophobic or transphobic barbs like I'm seeing now, those are the exact sorts of folks who don't deserve to be catered to. You can tell the measure of someone by who their enemies are, and in this case those enemies are pretty damn telling.

I'm hoping for good things with this show, and I'm interested in seeing what its supporting cast is gonna look like. One of Noelle Stevenson's biggest strengths is depicting a lot of contrasting friends bouncing off of each other, as with Nimona and Lumberjanes.

Also she got engaged recently, so it's a pretty good weekend for her!

Ok.

Then let’s discuss the Periphery Demographic. She-Ra had one, because it not only shared a universe with He-Man, it also shared a lot of villains. Hordak, for instance, was sold in the He-Man line, while the She-Ra line of toys only had the female villains. So it was essentially the same group of good guys and bad guys across the board and they crossed over frequently.

This probably is not going to have much, if anything like that.

Shane Lynch, who is the Script Coordinator is saying Hordak is awesome, and to expect some great boy characters (probably Bow).

TBH, the lack of crossover could be handwaved by saying there isn't a He-Man show being made to crossover with. And then asking viewers to support the show if they want to see them make one. If that happened it'd be a funny reversal.

Even though He-Man wont be showing up, I wonder if any other characters from the He-Man universe will, like Man-E-Faces or Moss Man, or heck, even do Stinkor finally.

Okay, I'll admit that this show apparently having no connections to He-Man is a little disconcerting, because it reminds me of certain projects that tried to disconnect themselves from where they came from, only to fail for various circumstances (mostly quality of story). Plus, I'm old enough to know He-Man and remembered seeing the '03 reboot when that was up, so yes, I am going to be wondering "where's He-Man" eventually (and I'm really hoping that doesn't make me a bad person). But maybe for She-Ra, this "disregarding of He-Man" is more so She-Ra can have the same recognizability as her brother did when he was all the rage and she won't have to piggyback off being just "He-Man's sister." (Though maybe that was the case back in the 80's too?)

All that being said, I'm smart enough to know the quality of the writing will be what ultimately saves or ruins this show, not some connections or lack thereof to He-Man or any of the Masters of the Universe. Plus, this visual kicks so much ass. (At least for me.) evil grin

Orko. Fight me.

Anyway, enough rambling, because Entertainment Weekly's full story on Noelle Stevenson (of which we got that blurry closer look on our favorite princess of power from) will appear online this coming Monday.

[up]We should probably table our discussion until said article hits, but I think it’s the nature of the beast to ask “Where’s this guy?” for reboots and re-imaginings. How many people kept asking about Batman showing up in Arrow before that show fell off a cliff, for instance?

[down]I mean there’s nothing wrong with asking, but when the article hits we’ll probably have a much clearer picture of what to expect, for good or ill.

[up] I mean, I did say I was smart enough to know the show's success should hinge on the quality of storytelling and not on any connections with you-know-who, but yeah, you're right. Let's just zip it.

I sort of want to see more of She-Ra, but I don't want to watch that ancient cartoon. She had a comic book series right?

I think she looks AWESOME. And the shorts are probably just for easier animation and more dynamic action scenes that could otherwise leads to uncomfortable Panty Shots. Im IN!

The only thing I don’t like are the shorts, but the rest of the design is good. The shorts may be there as Modesty Shorts or a Mattel decision for toys.

I dont mind the shorts because they are Pretty Common in Pretty Cure. And that's pretty girly so I dont think they are for "Un Girling She-Ra."

Thundercats Roar is hardly what I call a good thing.

No one has seen a single episode of that show, so no one can judge either.

Okay, I'll admit that this show apparently having no connections to He-Man is a little disconcerting, because it reminds me of certain projects

You're comparing apples to oranges there and forgetting that this is She-Ra's show, not He-Man and She-Ra. It's not like He-Man was a regular in her old show. For that matter, She-Ra didn't show up all that much in his show and she didn't show up at all

Plus, Catwoman has had solo books where Batman barely shows up, right?

But more importantly, Batman not showing up is not why the Catwoman film was bad.

Anyway, the She-Ra show focusing on She-Ra makes perfect sense.

This won’t have anything to do with He-Man, Skeletor, or the MOTU, so I can safely skip it I believe.

That sounds more like what you want is a new He-Man show and not a She-Ra show.

He-Man is part of She-Ra's origin

They weren't even raised together. Her having her own adventures isn't much of a stretch, especially since he had several adventures of his own before he met his sister.

And let's remember that the 2002 reboot of He-Man had Hordak without She-Ra being introduced.
