This trope was brought up in the Real Life Maintenance Thread (courtesy link), but it was determined that there's a lot to clean up just in the real life section. And other sections, like "Real vs. Fictional," need the cleaning treatment.

There are problems with people confusing Names The Same with Acronym Confusion and Similarly Named Works, as well as shoehorning where the characters are related, or where the characters do not have the exact same name.

Sometimes there's overlap and that overlap is (generally) okay, but it's better to have a discussion about such examples rather than just unilaterally cutting them. So, short-term project thread.

There's also a kind of odd organization to the examples list, like "Real Vs Fictional" on top of "Real Life." We could also talk about reorganizing that (or not messing with it) if y'all think we should.

The bit of cleaning I did earlier was based on some of the specifics of the tropes. Mainly that it has to be the full name that's the same, and not a part of it. Nicknames and acronyms are not full names. I also cleaned up the few relatives I found, since the names coming from unrelated sources is a key part of the trope.

I didn't clear out all cases where people had multiple first or last names, and the two normally used matched, but a third that wasn't generally used differentiated them. Technically that would also disqualify them. I also didn't clean out similar names which mostly had spelling differences of the same name. Those should also be excluded by the definition as written.

[up] Yeah, this may take a few runs with the red pen. I agree with what you're saying.

Also, should some of these pages be moved to the trope page? NamesTheSame.Radio and NamesTheSame.Fairy Tales, for example, are incredibly short.

Some problem pages I've noticed so far as those mentioned in OP but also the Music page, which I think somebody mentioned in the RL thread. It looks like almost all of the examples in the Music page are titles.

A couple of the examples on the Video Games page ignore the fact that the characters have last names (or are cases where the characters share a first name and only one of them has a known last name). Cut those?

I'd say that if the example doesn't say the first and last name, then it doesn't have enough context for a proper entry. It could probably be cut for that reason. Also, I just whittled some of the Film subpage.

Speaking of the film subpage...: This can be used In-Universe, right? Or is that another trope? There's an example for Letters to Juliet where the character is looking for someone named "Lorenzo Bartolini" but she has to find the right "Lorenzo Bartolini."

I've started working on the video game section for games I'm familiar with. Removed a few examples where a characters only share a first name. I'd like a little more clarification before I continue. I know characters who only have a first name count, but suppose it's a really common name (like say, John). Should we continue to list those? What about characters characters who share a name but both reference the same mythological or historical figure (like say, the entry for video game characters named Morrigan)?

The trope doesn't actually require the names to be unrelated, just the works. I mean, it says that it's the aversion of a Shout-Out, except when it isn't, which is a completely useless piece of information.
