Yes, I'd been discussing Artume already, both here and in the chat.

As I mentioned before, I'm doing a HUGE balancing act. On one hand, I have to keep the characters close to what the players expect; on the other, I must allow the players (and myself) some creative freedom. One way I compromised is that the origin of the character must remain the same, but anything else goes. Setting things early in their careers also helps avoid too many continuity issues.

In Artume's case, I had a problem: since her origin clashed with Diana's, I could either amalgamate them into one character (as I did with the two Hyppolitas) or I gave her a different origin. Thankfully I remembered Nubia (whose old origin is no longer canon) and I realized it was the perfect way to fit her in- and create a great 'Evil Twin Sister' setup in the process. (Presumably the modern version, Nu'Bia, also exists and has her Post-Crisis origin)

You can be sure of one thing: I will never do anything too radical like pulling a "Buffy's sister" without telling the player first.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: everyone who hasn't posted an introductory scene in the game, please do so. I need to know where your characters are and what they are doing so I can write stuff for them.

i.e. players like me right now.

Before I get tangled in myself again, I should sort out the why's of Mantra getting down there. Would it be feasible for her to find out about an influx AIM or Amazon minions via her government-monitoring-metahumans job?

I don't think we need any fancy explanations. You could probably just have her buying a questionable hotdog from an even more questionable vendor nearby when she notices a scuffle if you want[lol] That way you can get in on stuff faster since I don't know how long this thing is going to last before we go do another scene.

Haven't been able to participate much due to Firefox borking itself up and repairing profiles with SpeedyFox (on OS X), but now I've participated.

This is my introductory scene. I've also established she knows a character from Series.Mr Robot who I linked to (in this continuity for the Justice Avenger she is wildly different in characterization), although obviously she's Exiled from Continuity due to not being a Marvel or DC character (she's an In Name Only variant).

Given that Vancouver isn't a standard Marvel or DC location (except for filming Series. The Flash 2014 and Series.Supergirl, how can this fit into the story arc? Per this discussion. Not sure how Vancouver will fit into a team-up situation. Edit: It was in the MCU, so could probably fit.

Possible story arcs I was considering; Jessica Jones meets Tabby and considers about how she could help her, but also worries about the problems Tabby's powers could cause, and also, meeting Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) and Angela.

Her Story Arc may be more of a Breather Episode, or even a Bottle Episode in some cases (in terms of setting).

You can write your characters into ongoing events or set up your own as you want. And they can be everything from Mundane to Cosmic. I will then take it from there. Admittedly, if your character lives in a city with few characters then the options for crossovers will be lesser.

Btw, regarding Jessica Jones, remember her origin must be the same but you can change other stuff. Like her powers must be the same but neither The Purple Man nor Luke Cage have to be part of her life.

So after reading Merseyuser 1's opening post, it's fully sunk in to me that this is Jessica Jones In Name Only. In which case, why bother using Jessica at all? (No offense.)

[up] @Hijo: She is based on the Netflix version, not the comics, and her origin story follows that, except I did take some Broad Strokes with it though. However, following The Stations of the Canon, she still had the accident and was still adopted by Dorothy Walker (although Dorothy and Trish are Adapted Out). I made her a bit of a Composite Character from other Earths' versions of her when doing the research. The powers have not changed, though.

[up]@kkhohoho: I've generally kept the same origin story in Broad Strokes, and her powers and abilities remain the same, but she's had an Adaptational Personality Change and is from Canada rather than New York City.

[up]Not from where I'm standing. In both the comics and Netflix version, Jessica is, to put it nicely, a total raging a-hole PI thanks to being mindraped by the Purple Man,. Whereas instead, you have her as a well-adjusted businesswoman who never even met Kilgrave. How is that anything but In Name Only?

[up] I see now, she is In Name Only (although, as for the car crash as the source of her powers). I can Retcon if everyone wants. However, this version never met Kilgrave or teamed up with Luke Cage.

If the origin must remain the same but anything goes, as stated here, how far can I tweak things (especially the part about some creative freedom) without causing too many continuity issues? (I haven't really played too many RP here so sorry for my ignorance)

[up] x6 The plot with Tabby sounds interesting.

Heck, maybe there could be a riff on "Bada-Bing, Bada-Boom" where Tabby's dad shows back up and tries to use her for a robbery. Jessica's business could be the target, and Tabby has to decide if she should help her terrible father and betray a sort-of friend.

Also, how is Dorothy Walker incorporated if she and Trish are Adapted Out?

[up] Dorothy Walker is in Jessica Jones' Back Story but does not physically appear here, so would that count as Adapted Out?

I think it only counts as Adapted Out if they were actually left out.

[up] If you want Tabby to be in Vancouver where Jessica is, bring her in, might make for a good plotline / Story Arc here! (BTW, how close is Tabby to the canon character, mine is a bit of Adaptation Distillation / In Name Only)?

Boom Boom is a mix of 616 and X-Men Evolution, with just a dash of Nextwave.

Seems kind of strange to have a character in a completely different city from most of the goings-on, but you know what you're doing.

[up] What Story Arc do you want where Jessica and Boom-Boom meet for the first time? (and that's interesting)?

Maybe Jessica has to come down to NYC for business reasons, the same time Tabby's dad shows up, having gotten out on good behavior or something. He wants her help to rob Jessica, and hijinks ensue.

Of course, it all depends on what happens in between, especially since there's kind of been some set-up for a mentor-sidekick thing with Captain America. So I'm open to see how it goes.

[up]Speaking of which. If any more teen girls show up squeeing about how awesome it is to be talking with Captain America, he might as well just form Cap and the Teen Brigade at that point.tongue

How big does the adult-male-to-teenage-girl ratio have to be before it gets creepy?

kkhohoho Since: May, 2011
#47: Aug 20th 2017 at 12:40:59 PM

[up]Well, Cap is probably in his mid-late twenties at this point, so there should really only be a ten or year gap between Cap and the teens. Now, if he was in his thirties or so, that would be a whole other kettle of fish.tongue

Or on the other hand, if that's not what you were talking about, and were instead referring to how many girls there were compared to Cap, then I'd say it's already getting a bit creepy at this point.tongue One or two more guys wouldn't hurt.

Finally made my beginning post. Mostly testing the waters here as I try to determine exactly what degree of a seedy misogynist Lukas ought to be before I start breaking that down. If nothing else, he can supply the raven-haired wiseass grouchiness on Jessica Jones' behalf.

Re: Jessica Jones, what made her such a dark person was being Killgrave's sex slave- which is not only NOT strictly necessary for her origin but I find quite disgusting. If anything, the question should be "why doesn't she use her superhero identity (Jewel)?" (TBH I would have preferred that but this is not terribly important so I left it to the player. Also, Patsy Walker/Hellcat does *not* have to be connected to her any more than Luke Cage does.)

Remember, my rule is that the character's origin cannot be changed nor can you change other characters' origins. But other than that (and your character being heroes) anything goes. Backgrounds, relationships, team memberships, rivalries etc. may be different. Use of elements from the other company are encouraged.
