It's a chance for parents to give their children the experience of seeing Aladdin in the theatre, just as they did when they were children.

The Disney live-action remake trend is actually an interesting variation of Disney's old policy of re-releasing their animated movies every 5-10 years in the 70's-90's. (That was killed off by the creation of VCR/DVD; why bother rereleasing the same film when people already have the DVD?)

I wonder if these remakes will get the younger fans interested in seeing the original animated versions. I can see some kid who just saw this film go on youtube to look up Aladdin, come across clips of the 1992 version, and then want to see that one.

Always, Pt-Pt might as well be another language to us Brazilians.

The opposite is not true, mind, thanks to the fact that Brazil's soap operas are pretty popular in Portugal, once again proving that bad taste is truly a constant of mankind.

Indeed, I feel more uncomfortable listening/reading Spanish than pt-pt. At least with Spanish I know I am not supposed to understand everything.

Keep in mind that it is a matter of getting used to. With practice our European cousins become a lot more understandable. Still quite foreign, though, which is why translations are almost always separated.

Marcio Simões (BR voice of Genie) is so beloved he actually came back to voice The Genie in the remake, reprising his character nearly thirty years after (probably also due the happy coincidence he is the usual voice of Will Smith in Br dubs).

The same happened with the Dutch VA.

Maybe for some, but a lot of kids will probably defend these versions to the death in arguments against fans of the originals.

It is generally the case that the best version of a given story is whichever one you were exposed to first. Others just feel like a pale imitation of the masterpiece you've already seen, even if those others actually came first.

Sometimes, there are exceptions though. Ie I always didn't think much of Roger and Hammerstein's Cinderella, the latest version being the first I was exposed to. I watched the other two versions of it for my Cinderella article series and to my surprise I ended up loving the very first version with Julie Andrews. I even liked the songs in this one.

There are also multiple adaptations of The Little Mermaid and Cinderella I like equally but for very different reasons.

I love neither version of Charly and the chocolate factory...the first one has great music, but I don't think that it does a particularly good job capturing the message of the book, while the second take does really well with the message overall, but throws in all kind of stupid sh... which really isn't needed.

I happen to like the second synchronisation of Pinocchio better than the first (mostly because the first sounds really outdated).

Brosnan is my favourite Bond, but my favourite Bond movie is still Goldfinger.

Yes, if you already love something it is harder for another version of the same thing to win you over, but it is doable.

Was trying to think of instances where I was exposed to a "later" incarnation first, but ended up preferring the original.

If we can count TV shows, in regards to ''Whose Line is it, Anyway?" I was exposed to the American version first (as I'm sure most Americans were), but ultimately I much prefer the original British era due to there being a wider variety of castmembers and cast episode line-ups, which added more spontaneity. Also, no damn guest stars.

TBH, I think the obsession of the starbucks cup or the water bottle as evidence of how bad the season is are so superficial of reasons to hate the way the series went when there's so much deeper and more obvious problems.

Eh, the problem with the show is that the emperor had no clothes from the get go, it just took some people longer than other to catch on and it is easier to blame the last seasons alone than an underlying problem which was there all along.

I think people just use the example of the Starbucks cup because it's a no-explanation-needed example of sloppiness, and in that sense it's a decent shorthand to use for the show's deeper and more complex issues.

I think you're right, another example is the "I'm losing to a bird" clip from Hunchback to stand in for the more complex issues with tone from that movie.

I feel like BEST SEASON EVAA or Dinklage's comments about Tyrion actually not being that smart after all would be the equivalent of 'Losing to a bird'

alternatively "Dany kinda forgot about the Iron Fleet" because boy did that spread incredibly fast as a snowclone
