It has hope, but has a slight sad tinge to it as well - I think it fits someone who's overcome a great hardship, yet remains hopeful.

The lyrics do speak of someone supporting someone else, even through tough or hard times- Saying goodbye to the person they helped. The reason why is totally because I ship Female!Protag with Lillie- I mean, uh, they do say bye to one another at the end of the game, as Lillie departs to Kanto.
