It's probably not dead forever. It just wont happen soon. With any luck, a new vs Capcom might spring up to fill the gap.
Yeah, it'll probably be a long while, and the next one will probably not take any risks, but I think another Marvel vs Capcom is coming eventually.
Maybe Disney/Marvel will eventually want their own Injustice & fund more this time.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Hey, after Street Fighter V's...er...V season, they'll be making progress on Street Fighter VI. That'll come out in 2023, and then in 2027 we'll get Marvel vs Capcom 4.
Or Darkstalkers 4 and Rival Schools: Graduation :)
While i dont think every fighting gsme NEEDS a story, its slso true having one and ongoing lore will get people who arent good but want to experience the story to its end will be wling to snag a copy too. Blazblue and Soul Calibur come time mind, and the aforementioned Mortal Kombat games all have a big of enough audience who are along for the ride of the tales they tell.
Personally, I'm all for fighting games having story modes, if only so the single-player fellas have something besides the obligatory Arcade Mode, which is less "story mode" and more "What If...? mode".
I think the trick is to know who's writing this crud. Infinite had a great story idea of a Marvel villain and a Capcom villain teaming up to mash the two worlds together, but the execution was pretty meh.
For a Marvel vs. Capcom story mode to work, you'd probably need more than one guy handling it all. You'd one writer who's good with Marvel characters and another who's good with Capcom guys. (And once again, I stress that those two should be Al Ewing and Ian Flynn. Or if Ewing isn't available, then Christopher Yost.)
Actually, the resignation of Yoshinori Ono, along with Street Fighter V announcing Rival Schools' Akira as Season 5 DLC (and overall being more open about their plans) has me suspecting that if Capcom decides to revisit MVC again, they're going to seriously analyze what went wrong with Infinite to make sure they don't make the same mistakes twice. (Side note, I mention Ono because he apparently had some spats with MVC3's director and evidently didn't help the situation going on with Infinite's production.)
But before anyone does anything, they should probably consider a Legacy Collection of Capcom's Marvel games just to see if the demand is still there as it was in 2016.
(Finally, if MVC4 does happen and Deadpool and Akira are in the roster, Deadpool should say "KANEDAAA!" and "TETSUOOO!" anytime he switches out with Akira.)
"KANEDAAA", "TETSUOOOO", and occasionally "KAAKAAAROOOOOT".
You know, Marvel could always decide to give the license to someone else.

Last time they did that we got "Rise of the Imperfects."
Please, don't speak it's name!
Seriously though, I prefer Capcom's style of gameplay (at least when it's not ludicrously technical) and think they do a good job of capturing the spectacle and fun of superhero fights in actual gameplay animation better than anyone except maybe Arcsys as of their last few games (and I don't see Arcsys doing a fighting game based on an American franchise any time soon), so I'd prefer they keep it.
I just want them to keep it and not fuck it up this time.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. So what do we want the gameplay for the next game to be like? Keep it like Infinite, 3 v 3 Active Switch, Infinite minus the stones?
It's dawning on me that the creator of Dragon Ball is also named Akira and now I'm feeling like a blockhead. Thanks for enlightening me.
And fun fact, apparently Marvel published the original AKIRA manga via their Epic Comics imprint, which I didn't realize until after my original post. Small world, no?
On one hand, Infinite was praised for its 2 v 2 gameplay. On the other hand, people associate MvC with 3 v 3 thanks to 2 and 3.
Ultimately, I would make it so you can 2 v 2 or 3 v 3 and it'd balance accordingly, like how Super Smash Bros. Ultimate made it so that fighters' hit percentage would change depending on how many players there are.

They did have RWBY in Cross Tag Battle.
Probably sell better too regardless if its a traditional fighter or not.
Rival Schools: Graduation, what a grandoise title.
I still like Utron Sigma as the boss character. It was actually nice to see both a Capcom & a Marvel be the final boss instead of another giant Marvel boss fight & whatever the hell Abyss supposed to be. Although, Ultron Omega is still a giant boss fight it was a fusion of the 2 companies.
While I like to think EMH's writer would do a fine job, I have no real reason he'll treat the Capcom cast any better than Tier has done in MVC 3.
It wasn't that bad. Denial is a powerful feeling.
As far as I'm concerned, Arc has always had the 2D visual that rival the MVC series all the way back to GG X.
I personally don't want the series to bring back MVC 3's gameplay. I'm sick of the setups you can have after KOing a character & as much I liked X-Factor I absolutely hate its functionality.
I'm not entirely sure why so many of you guys think another MVC is a possibility.
Sure I've seen plenty of people clamoring for another one, but I fail to see why Marvel is willing to work with Capcom again without having to be the main guy making decisions again. Especially if the sales won't live up to their expectations again
Itsuno did say he wanted to make a Rival Schools game to finish it off and have them graduate since they have three years of high school and from what I know of the series and characters, there's a lot the third game can do to conclude the story. We're bringing back Akira and Devil May Cry 5 was part of the push to get Capcom to use their old I Ps more.
Although if Disney were to make their own fighting game, I'd want it to be based on their animated shows and I already have a roster in mind:
- Scrooge Mc Duck
- Magica De Spell
- Chip n Dale
- Darkwing Duck
- Ursula
- Aladdin and the Genie
- Hercules
- Buzz Lightyear
- Mickey Mouse
- Tarzan
- American Dragon: Jake Long
- Kim Possible
- Shego
- Fillmore
- Sitch
- Dave the Barbarian
- Kronk and Yzma
- Phinease & Ferb
- Perry the P Latpus
- Doofensmirtz
- Kick Buttowski
- Mike Chilton: from Motorcity
- Beck or Tron.
- Dipper and Mable
- Bill Cypher
- Wander
- Lord Hater
- Lord Dominator
- Penn Zero
- Star
- Marco
- Toffee
- Milo Murphy
- Cassandra, and I don't even watch Tangled
- Hiro and Baymax
- Eda
Actually they should get Itsuno for the Capcom side for research. He's interested in a lot of Capcom's library.
Another Marvel vs Capcom game can happen. The people behind the projects just need to fire on all cynliders.
Tarzan would be not likely to happen in that idea because of a weird rights issue going on with how they can use him.
All I remember is that it has something to do with the estate of the original author of the Tarzan books deciding to restrict what Disney can do with him. Hence why no Kingdom Hearts game after the original has used Tarzan characters.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!Really? That explains why I haven't heard about Tarzan in so long.
Anyway, Ignant's crew did a video on how'd they fix up MVCI's roster if you're interested.
Max is going through the story mode again. This should be fun.
Thread's always on constant life support, so I wanna spice it up. Think it would be fun to make fun character interactions. Tried it on twitter and got a few likes here and there.
Ex: Spider Man vs Akira (I swear I had something smarter when the thought first came into my head)
Akira Kazama: Are you one of Justice High's new recruits?
Spider Man: Ghost Rider? Wait, your schools are in some sort of Gang War? Not again.
Akira Kazama win quote: Your uncle sounds amazing. I'd feel the same if I lost Daigo for good.
Spider Man win quote: Rival schools? Geez I can't even keep up with the Midtown football team's rivals.
"In my kingdom of hearts I believe this game was purposely sent out to die"
Damn Max
Professor... Ryu doesn't have a last name does he?
Edited by FrozenWolf2 on Sep 13th 2020 at 11:45:26 AM
Yeah, it had good moments in it. Overall its not the worst fighting game story mode, but they really just needed to embrace the crossover side.
They made Ryu a pilot.
That already says enough how they feel about the Capcom side.
True, but Ryu's not dumb.....is he?
More philosopher than scientist, really.
Wake me up at your own risk.Considering why Ryu was hanging with Banner, I assumed that Banner approached Ryu hoping the latter can make sure the former doesn't go out of line.
By Sugar Wiki? After that video, I don't think I'm going to follow his videos anymore.
But I already said that I seriously doubt a story mode cause Infinite to sell decently.
With or without Infinite as a measurement stick, all that really tells me is that MVC will always be a series that people are willing to buy.
Which only makes me more depressed that there'll never be a sequel.
