Kaguya Wants to be Confessed To

I've reached Volume 12, and I would like to adopt all these precious dumb idiot children, please.

I watched the first episode, and I want to ask an issue on troping to those who have been following this series for a longer term.

Does the author intend to evoke the image of the real-life Gakushūin? The description for Shuchi'in completely overlaps Gakushuin, but I don't see (just from the first episode) the author attempts to expand beyond that point.

Almost certainly, I would say, though the atmosphere of the school relaxes considerably from its original portrayal, much the same way Miyuki and Kaguya do. Kaguya in Rich Bitch mode is about the worst the school seems to get about people being super privileged, and most of the time it's actually easy to forget that the kids are supposed to be the children of the .01%.

There are some backgrounds of the school's caste of the "pure" and the "impure". The former being the ones who have been in Shu'chin academies the entire time, while the latter are those who entered the academy from middle school, high school etc. Apparently this causes some drama when Miyuki first entered the student council, although we haven't had much exposure in that front yet.

The fact that he managed to be the president despite being an impure is supposed to be an extraordinary accomplishment.

There was a hint of some kind of side chapter or something about Miyuki's first term on the council, I think? Some kind of spring chapter. So that could show a bit more of it.

We finally learn the real truth behind the title.

Also, Prez is the greatest rom com protagonist of them all.

Kaguya was pretty adorable in episode 3, I must say. Like her acting all high and mighty about her supreme knowledge of the Thing, even though she went to the Shimoneta school of sex ed. "Okawaii koto" indeed. Miyuki's Verbal Backspace in episode 2 was also hilarious − for once someone actually narrowly avoids the nasty consequences of Exact Eavesdropping by noticing in time. Plus the fact his advice actually worked somehow.

…Hmm, so are they gonna use a different ending every episode? I don't know how they did this one but I'm pretty sure there was some sort of mo-cap or rotoscopy involved… The movements were way too fluid to be handdrawn and way too realistic to be purely CG.

Subject F ending was ear wormy.

Yeah, I would almost say CG, but I didn't think CG was that... advanced. Maybe that's what happens when you throw 'new fully-animated ED and ending song for every episode' money at a CG team?

Also, this episode is definitely the first turning point for Kaguya's personality, I would say. Or how she's shown in-series, at least. I remember the walking-to-school chapter as the first one that really makes her more sympathetic.

At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if whoever worked on this ED was hired on the next idol series.

That walk to school really was a good moment for Kaguya. I like to think that the… reveal of the previous skit pushed her to interact more with the outside world.

Animation like that in an idol series would remove one of the biggest hurdles the genre has, which is that it's very hard to make your cast choreography appealing when it was clearly thrown together in Miku Miku Dance.

It looked rotoscoped, to be honest; the moments of the skirt were definitely too realistic for a CG model done for an ED in a TV anime.
