Ooooh their’s another set of Oscorp missions. I’m guessing these are more centered on combat/stealth

Ok so I’ve gotten to the point wher Jefferson Davis dies and Martin Li is revealed as the demon leader

On the side mission side I’ve collected all the backpack, Got all the towers up, Got photos of all the landmarks, all but one research station, all of the pigeons, all of the Black Cat locations (haven’t gone to her hideout yet), and all the Kingpin bases

I’ve played 4 spiderman games so far. This, Ultimate Spiderman, Shattered Dimension and the one based on the least awful Andrew Garfield film (my dad also rented the game based off the first movie but I was little then so I don’t remember much about it).

If I had to rank them from worst to best it would be Amazing, Ultimate, Shattered Dimensions, and PS 4

My rankings are:

1. Spider-Man (PS4)

2. Spider-Man: The Movie

3. Spider Man (Activision, P S 1)

4. Ultimate Spider-Man

IIRC, the last research stations only becomes accessible at a later point in the development and story. I forget which.

YOU haven't nearly unlocked all the side-missions in the game...

honestly the 2nd best spiderman game was spiderman 2, which the creators of this game have said they based a lot the mechanics from it

Yeah, but that game is also inaccessible af as mentioned two pages back. Spider-Man: The Movie is on PC the same version as the consoles, graphically a step up to speak as a (happily) ex-member of the PC Master Race. Spider-Man 2 on the other hand has different PC and console versions. The PC version is awful. The console versions of PS2 can only be retrogamed since no Updated Re-release or ports to modern consoles have ever been done. Maybe it will come on Playstation Now (I read somewhere that they plan on putting games from the playstation 2 era there).

A roundabout way of saying I haven't played it. I have seen it on youtube and the open-world web-swinging looks great and I read that it plays better but aside from that, the game has lame boss-fights (whereas Spider-Man The Movie has very good boss fights and it's the only Spidey game to have you battle the Goblin on his Glider), graphically it's a step back for the usual open-world reasons. And I don't think it will stand or age well if it were ported the same way today.

Geez, few months late, but that thing with how that marriage proposal ended up reminds me of the whole "You should never propose unless you know the answer" thing, but kinda wondering if that can somehow be applied as "Don't include marriage proposals by someone in your game unless you know for sure the answer"? .-.

Honestly don't include marriage proposals in your game period.

Big public Marriage proposals often rely on their publicness to apply peer pressure on the other party accept said proposal.

Good article on the subject. It's not romantic. It's manipulation.

Yeah Insomniac should not have done that. It was a stupid thing they did. But you know I don't know if we should discuss stuff like that here. It's personal to real-life figures and so on.

I don't really blame Insomniac too much, in that they probably just thought it was cute, coz pop culture has falsely trained everyone to think that kind of crap is cute (And that's also why it's even more of a terrible idea, since pop culture's trained people to favor the person doing the proposal).

It stopped being personal when the guy asked insomniac to put it in the game.

This case actually isn't so bad, in that they had broken off before the game even came out. It's much more unpleasant when those types of peer-pressure based proposals and the people are still together.

So I’ve just gotten past the MJ mission where you infiltrate Tombstone’s garage. Its a bit wierd seeing him as the leader of a Biker Gang since I’m more familiar with the Spectacular version who was basically a slimmer version of Kingpin.

Some quick thoughts so far

Visuals look excellent as I expected

Outside of the main theme the soundtrack seems like its just kinda their. Its not bad just not memorable

The voice cast is excellent. Yuri Lowenthal is among the top portrayals of Spiderman

Combat falls into a sweet spot of spectacle with a decent bit of technicality. Not DMC or Ninja Gaiden levels but enough to spice things up

The game seems to be more conservative with how it handles its villains compared to the Arkham games

Stealth works ok but their is room for improvement

Crimes have a bit more variety to them than expected. They start out relatively simple but then gradually ramp up in complexity

I’m a bit disappointed that their’s on 1 type of event that solely focuses on helping civilians (car wrecks)

I kind of like how the game takes cues from Web of Shadows in how the city changes over the course of the game.

You do get more variety for civilian missions as the game progresses. Patience.

Not sure what you mean by "conservative" in approach to villains? Tombstone for instance would fit right in with the Arkham crowd. Man's awesome.

I mean that the game seems to have a lower villain count than the Arkham Games (I know the six come into play at some point but I’m guessing not until the third act). This isn’t necessarily better or worse than the way the Arkham series does things its just a different approach.

There’s at least one more random crime type that involves helping civilians: saving kidnapping victims.

The first game Batman: Arkham Asylum had 8 villains and of them three — Mr. Zsasz, Riddler and Harley Quinn — are minor villains, so you have really 5 (Scarecrow, Bane, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, Joker).

I'd say numerically...well it wouldn't be a spoiler to say this game has more.

If Insomniac makes a Hulk game, Taking notes from both The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction and the Prototype series by Radical Entertainment would be a recommended option to go.

Not sure if they have the gaming rights for Hulk. I think some of that might be with Universal with Marvel having only team-up rights to the character and so on.

I think the next one will be Spider-Man PS4 2. There's been talks for Marvel spin-offs but not all superheroes lend themselves to the same model. Like Iron Man is not a hero who patrols his own city kind of guy...he's this global player and so on. Captain America likewise. I think Doctor Strange would be a cool game, an Immersive Sim like Dishonored with magic and multiple paths and so on...it would be trippy and cool.

I wonder if they will do a Thor game...because Sony Interactive Entertainment might nix that owing to God of War (PS4)(also a Sony exclusive as is this game) whose sequel will absolutely feature Thor in a big way.

[up]Funny from what I recall the movie tie in was a shoddy god of war clone. Now God of War has made a better Norse Mythology game than Thor

Yeah. According to Mike Jones, who is obviously angling to be the Feige of Marvel Games:

How do you decide what Marvel properties are made into games? Is it mostly related to what films are being made by Marvel currently, or do you get to have your own freedom choosing properties?

Yes and no. Obviously, many of our characters have been popular over decades of publishing with over 8,000 characters, some of which have been extremely successful, some of which have been forgotten in time. There are characters like Spider-Man, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Defenders, which are all properties that have a natural awareness and fan affinity. And we absolutely want to make sure that we deliver on those, but I think we're also interested in plucking some characters from obscurity that you may not have not heard of and making a game around them. I never would have thought my mom could be an Ant-Man fan; she even didn't know what an Ant-Man was until she saw the movie and then, boom, she loves it.

We don't see any reason why we can't do that in gaming, through an emotionally connected interactive experience. Bill loves to say, "People love all of our characters—they just haven't met them yet." And so we want to deliver the super-exciting characters, the obvious ones that everybody wants, but we're very much looking at how else can we do bold and exciting things and introduce people to new characters they may not have yet met.

A dream Marvel game for me would be an MGS-style stealth-action game starring Captain America and Winter Soldier with an espionage thriller story akin to Ed Brubaker's Captain America run. Please tell me that has crossed your mind.

Oh, gosh. Ed Brubaker's Captain America would be great. You can do so much with that: you could use Winter Solider, Black Widow, or any of those SHIELD characters. Captain America, Red Skull, and Nick Fury definitely have a Metal Gear Solid sort of flavor to them, so I personally would love a game like that. That's definitely something that has crossed my mind. Absolutely.

So that might give you some idea where they might go. Ant-Man would make an absolutely unique and fun-game (I remember when the movie came out, people compared it to Pikmin). Guardians of the Galaxy might work a la Beyond Good & Evil. And a Cap/Bucky/SHIELD MGS-Clone sounds fun. And Doctor Strange could be the Dishonored.

But yeah, Marvel's version of Thor is toast in games for now, thanks to Kratos.
