Predator is like Terminator and Alien; a series Hollywood keeps trying to make happen despite not having produced a really good and successful installment since the 80s.

No official good film, at any rate.

1991, thank you very much. T2 is still the best installment of the franchise, and Predator 2 is a fine film in its own right, if nothing particularly special or compelling.

Aquaman will probably also get beaten up by a cyborg girl with large anime eyes, at this rate.

At least he can’t do worse than Bumblebee… right?

Those movies will cannibalize each other. My money is on Into the Spider-verse doing better than Aquaman, Alita Battleangle and Bumblebee.

Something tells me Mortal Engines will also disappoint.

My God that movie.

I never realized a film trailer could feel like dragging on until this film.

Alita I think is gonna be one of the big flops this year. I can't find anyone excited for it and all the theaters I've been in that showed the trailers had people laughing.

MY MAN

My gut tells me that this year’s holiday box office will look something like this: Mary Poppins > Into the Spider-Verse > Aquaman > Bumblebee > Mortal Engines > Alita (I didn’t include Holmes & Watson or Welcome to Marwen since they’re presumably more modestly budgeted).

I think Alita will do better than Mortal Engines at least.

I always understood Aquaman to be the dopiest of comic book heroes, so dopey that he is the Trope Namer for This Looks Like a Job for Aquaman. But from what I've seen of the advertising they're playing it just as deadly serious as any other latter-day superhero movie. Should have leaned into the goofiness.

Aquaman's dopeness is a relic from the Superfriends cartoon. The character itself has always been taken seriously in his usual stomping grounds (the comics, every other cartoon).

Funny, my take on the Aquaman advertising was that they were leaning real hard into the:

“Hello, ladies, look at your man, now back to me, now back at your man, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped wearing an orange and green unitard and switched to being awesome, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re under the sea with the man your man could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an oyster with two tickets to that thing you love. Look again, the tickets are now diamonds. Anything is possible when your man smells like Awesome and not Lameness. I’m on a shark.”

...it’s kinda working. It’s Jason Momoa, flexing, carrying a trident, covered in water, with his Hawaiian ancestry apparently being respectfully recognized and acknowledged in the adaptation. I’m only human!

Frankly, does nothing for me. But I guess that is a matter of taste. For me this "Aquabro" vibe is really off-putting. It's a little bit too macho.

Okay the ”Aquaman is lame” shit is a stereotype only the most ignorant person would actually take seriously.

Anyone with even the most minor information of the character would know it’s complete bullshit.

It’s the whole “Ant-Man is useless” nonsense all over again & we all know how bogus that one is.

He’s usually macho, there’s nothing really too different here. The Brave and The Bold Aquaman is the most awesomely macho version of the character to have ever existed or Justice League Cartoon Aquaman where he was basically underwater Conan.

We know this. The general audience - most likely doesn't care either way. But never underestimate how much silly jokes can screw the perception of someone. I mean, most people actually believe that Disney was an Anti-Semite, because they have seen again and again jokes about this so called fact.

I happen to enjoy Bat B Aquaman, but he isn't meant to be taken seriously. Plus, I was speaking in terms of "attraction", not in terms of how well a character might or might not work.

Mortal Engines and Alita will absolutely flop, but especially Alita cuz it cost $200 mil. Nov and Dec are so packed with tentpoles this year it's insane. Wreck It Ralph, Grinch and ITSPV are all gonna be competing. The Disney nutcracker movie looks like it might flop as well. It's going to be a bloodbath. Some of these movies should've taken the risk of an Oct release, that's a quiet month

Nutcracker looks fun; Grinch and Wreck It Ralph can go die in a fire. I hate the trailers so, so much.

Like I hoped the Ralph sequel would transition from Ralph dealing with arcade games to Ralph dealing with modern consoles games but nope.... it’s fucking internet memes.

I can’t even discern an actual plot from the trailers, it just appears to be random shit. Hell Ralph & Vanessa are given no reason from exploring the internet other than “Just cause”.

I am disappoint since I liked the first one.
