I don't know if Smash Bros is necessarily an inevitability. I mean, it was here because it had already been announced beforehand, but hearing Sakurai say after every single one that he's finished with the series forever is fairly demoralizing for hopes of a next one.

He's put an incredible amount into this series — and it's cost him mentally and physically — so you can hardly blame him. (I swear, between the dev staff and the top class players, these games have destroyed a lot of hands)

Smash Bros. is continuing with or without Sakurai. They ain't gonna leave that much money on the table.

I don't think, collectively, there's a single more passionate video game franchise over all out there than Smash, from fan outpouring and sheer developer love and self sacrifice. He's gonna leave the series behind sooner or later (he needs to, it's actually, literally, not remotely joking killing him), but it'll still be sad to see him game.

Repost: Treehouse just said they'll take one last look at Smash before moving on to Killer Queen Black...and maybe afterward some new reveals.

Do you guys think we could get one last character reveal before moving on to Killer Queen Black?

Well, I guess that's all for Nintendo's E3 presence.

But remember, there will be more chances of surprises in the months to come, and we can keep an eye on Gamescom and TGS as well and some directs in the upcoming months.

Crazy.

Anyway, Kenny and Woods are in their last match. Forgot to mention they are playing Street Fighter V.

It's been epic. Omega is talking smack and Woods has given his reply. It's the final showdown here.

Dunno if Woods has been practicing but Kenny's legitimately really good at SFV. Not quite a pro but he had to dial it back when they played at CEO a while back since he wanted to put on a show for everyone and not just blow him out.

It's first to five and they are currently tied 4-4.

So I'd say Woods is very good.

Not to dredge up the "debate" from the last couple of pages (if we can even call it that), but I do agree with Demongod (and BadWolf, I believe) in that we need to factor in whether or not the games shown off at E3 had any console exclusitivity when it comes to determining who "won" the event.

Microsoft may have performed above expectations with their ~50 games, but only a handful of those titles weren't multiplatform.

DMC5? That's coming to PS4 and PC. Ditto for Sekiro. Reaffirming that KHIII is coming to the Xbox is a big deal, but we've already known for a while that it was going to be for both that system and the PS4.

This also applies to Nintendo, just in case it sounds like I'm out to get Microsoft. For example, it's nice to see FighterZ get ported to the Switch, but anyone who already has it on PS4, XB1, and PC (such as myself) likely isn't going to double dip. Conversely, Starlink might possibly be a better experience on the Switch on account of the exclusive Star Fox elements.

It's not just a matter of what a company is offering; it's also a matter of "Are they offering anything unique?" That is why, as predictable as their announcements might've been for many, first party games like Fire Emblem and Smash do make a difference in the discussion. It's also, I assume, the reason Sony decided to present their conference the way they did. Aside of Shadow of the Tomb Raider and KHIII, the focus was on their (in high demand) exclusives like The Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and Spider-Man.

[up]Indeed. Microsoft's press conference was good but it only served to reinforce the idea that my PS 4 purchase was a good decision.

Also I'm beginning to think that many companies are outgrowing E3 as a place for announcements for the general public, instead focusing on announcing the games separately and using E3 to go in-depth.

The exclusivity argument only really applies to the three conferences that have their own game systems. I'm not saying it's not a fair point, it's just completely irrelevant to all of the other conferences.

Oh, for sure. It's more of a reminder for the people here who are claiming Microsoft "won" and/or brushing off Nintendo's conference with "It's just another Smash" and whatnot. And I say this as someone who doesn't even bat for Team Microsoft yet would probably give them this year's crown.

The fact that I cannot think of any Xbox exclusives beyond Ori and the Will of the Wisps (which, for the record, was first announced last year) strikes me as a bit of a problem.

And Gears 5 (thanks for jogging my memory, btw [lol]), but those two franchises are for Microsoft what Smash is to Nintendo. Oh, and Forza Horizon 4 (to a lesser degree).
