Eve|Cottage|Discussing Multiversal Differences

Eve tilted her head.

"I'm not sure if...if my world has a name beyond the world."

She didn't actually know. The idea of the planet being named was an unsual one. The idea of a country entirely not existing, of a culture, a people whose identity no longer existed? That was a scary one. She noticed Ben's glance.

"Do you want to go out there? See what the day is like?"

The Christmas cottage

Ben furrowed his brow, Ben's question seemed to unnerve her for whatever reason. He scratched his head, thinking for a moment. He figured he would try something. "Okay, uh... America. England. China, Japan, France, Russia, Africa, Australia. Any of those places sound familiar at all?" He would attempt to test whether her world was Earth or not, even if she didn't know it. She then asked if he wanted to go outside. Ben nodded, standing up. "Yeah, sounds like fun," he told her, a smile on his face. "Well, after you."

The city streets

Ghostfreak looked somewhat smug as Sora threatened him. "Your efforts are wasted, boy. There is nothing you can do to stop me." At that moment, Forrest, Rick and Morty arrived. Ghostfreak stared in disbelief... who was this mortal, with no obvious power, to order around the ecto-lord of Anur Phaetos? "Consider yourself fortunate, mortal," he said to Forrest with a dangerous tone to his voice. "For were it any other day I would destroy you here and now."

Ghostfreak turned his singular eye around his head without moving his head, towards the scientist and his grandson. "And as for you, scientist. Listen to the boy and do not get involved. It is better for your long-term safety that you stay out of my way... and leave me to my business."

Misunderstanding Things Again, Forrest Gump

Then the spiky-haired kid corrected me and told me that they simply was arguin' over their costumes. I think they was takin' their costumes too seriously. I simply rolled my eyes at the two and said, “Ya know. Arguin' over costumes is kids stuff. A costume is just a costume, I think?”

The spook told me that he could destroy me if it was a different day. He think was tryin' real hard to say that he was scary or somethin'. Then again, he was a spook, and spooks don't lie, right? I just bowed and said, "Sorry 'bout that. I, uh, won't bother you anymore"

This spiky-haired grandpa note showed up with his grandsonnote  and drank from his flask. Was there a lot of people with spiky hair in this town? He told everyone that the spook was goin' to sacrifice the blood of a firstborn. Do spooks really do that?!

I asked the grandpa, “Uh, are you sure that all spooks do that...?”

House - Celebrations

Sans had an even better reaction to her get up than she had predicted. It felt pretty good to hear him laugh like that, even if she wasn't responsible for the situation that had allowed for it. And she of course couldn't help laughing quite a bit at that pun, even more than usual.

Smiling widely herself and quickly grabbing Kerykeion to complete the look, she then said, "Well, I would say that it wasn't my choice, but really, I couldn't have chosen better even if I tried. It is kinda bare bones, but I rather like it. And hey, Fried got into it too. We would all match if wasn't for your changes as well, but it's still kinda nice."

Lucas seemed really self-conscious at his comedy attempt and she could understand the feeling, so she said warmingly, "Don't worry. It wasn't at all used to either before getting here and meeting Sans, but it is rather contagious and I would like to think that I mostly got the hang of it by now. Stay around long enough and you probably will too. After all, with what we just went through together, we might as well officially become friends," then upon his questions regarding his new appearence, she added, "It is nothing that I would recognize myself either, sorry. I'm a bit curious, not just about that, but also exactly what is supposed to be going on. We will probably find out once we go outside and see what happened to other people and maybe the city itself," she flickered her gaze towards his hair and then adressed his other question, "And I'm afraid so, yes ... "

She grabbed her bag back from the night table and then finally added, "Well, shall we head out then?"

House - ready for a fun time

Sans chuckled some more as Caro kept the string of puns going. Lucas' costume wasn't as interesting by comparison but it still looked rather silly, he did seem a little concerned about the hair though. Why, it was hard to tell.

"i have a few things i need to check on my phone, plus i still need a bit to really wake up, so why don't you two go outside and take your first look at the streets in the meantime?" He suggested as he stood up and began stretching himself.

He then looked back at the cellphone, which was still on camera mode and as result allowed him to see the paint job that was done on his face.

"oh man this keeps getting better," he said, chuckling.

True to what he said, Sans then began looking through his phone.

Abel - Streets - Ghost Fight

So today, the whole place was a carnival, except this time, it wasn't super scary or whatever. Abel could appreciate that. It seemed like a nice gesture from whatever was making the place change. But then again, he was brought here against his will, so it kind of canceled out.

Anyway, it took a while for Abel to make any real progress towards anything. As he walked, he could hear someone shouting rather heroically, and against his better judgement (because seriously, getting yourself wrapped up in heroic business is just asking for trouble), he went to investigate.

The scene unfolding in front of him looked like something out of a shitty crossover TV episode. Four characters and a ghost were apparently arguing about something, though Abel couldn't tell what, but the thing that really looked weird was their outfits. For one thing, everybody was either dressed like Santa, one of his elves, or a leprechaun, so clearly the clothes swap was city-wide (thankfully). The other thing was the ghost itself; it looked like a really poorly made quilt had been draped over a sausage with arms. The only scary part was its one red eye. Abel shivered and hid behind a ticket booth. He saw Morty there, but he would have to wait until the whole debacle was over before he could go talk to him. He wasn't going to get into another crazy situation yet.

Good. Forrest would be safe and Sora hoped that Rick and Morty would take Ghostfreaks warning to heart. This is a fight that only he, Ben, and those that Ben approves of can do. Still, Sora didn't like that he was threatening Forrest. Sora told Ghostfreak, "You say that but no amount of effort is wasted it when your fighting for your friends. That's why I will never back down from you. I have people to protect. Friends to care about. You can never understand that."

Sora then said tauntingly, "Oh. And watch out for scissors."

So she didn't know what the deal with his new attire was? He guessed that would be the case, what with infinite universes and such, but it was still disappointing. It wasn't important, though, because his hair was orange. One would hear his breathing quicken as he shoved the hat onto his head and his muttering of "Is this some sort of sick joke?" under his breath. Lucas was doing a lot better than he would if this had happened a few days ago, though, as he had had time to cope with the death of Claus. All in all, it would just be obvious to anyone looking that he found the hair color disturbing in some way, and nothing more.

Well, Sans wanted them to go ahead so he could do something with his... phone. Lucas's eyes narrowed a bit. It was just an instinctive response at this point, but it was still clear that he had a problem with telecommunication technology. Whatever, Lucas had no hatred for either of the two so he didn't halt from continuing conversation just because of a phone being in sight. He said to the two "We could go on ahead while you use... that. Just... if the city separates us somehow, we should meet at the library." And with that, as long as no one tried to stop him he'd be on his way, presumably with Caro but we'll see about that.

Eve|Cottage|[Insert Something Witty Here]

Eve listened to Ben listing off the countries. The only one she recognised was Japan, which, though she had never visited, she knew it was where Kyoko came from. And went back to.

"I know Japan. The other ones are new to me."

Standing up, Eve took another look around the cottage and grabbed the keys on the end table. Having a safe, lockable place was good. Then she, beckoning Ben to follow (in the distance, a small cry of Where Are You Going? Do You Want Some Toast? could be heard), walked to the front door.

Prison — Prison break!

Ciri was shocked to learn that the guy behind the city was an incredibly powerful individual that used his abilities to dress up people.

"It happens all the time. The guy probably doesn't have any friends"

It seemed like seeing the sheer ridiculousness of the situation made Ciri not want to spend another minute inside the prison and instead head to the library. As she was saying this, Rex received a message in his communicator about being a message for him in the library.

"Uh, actually..."

Rex built one of his mechanical hands and 'gently' punched down the door of his cell. He tried to not break it so much but the cell was left with its metal bars visibly twisted and partially not attached to the wall but Rex figured no one would pay much attention to it.

"I also need to go there"

Yael was still there, looking goofy in his non-descript holiday look.

"You saw nothing" he told the quarian.

Rex kept walking, keeping an eye out for the militia, in case they came back.

"Whoa, buddy, you *urp* your nonexistent mouth is *urp* is talkin' a real big game here," observed Rick, leaning against a nearby wall that hadn't been there five seconds ago and shooting Ghostfreak a skeptical glance.

"And w-w-what's your business, huh?" he continued. "Because if I know *urp* if I know the motives of sinister and vaguely supernatural creatures in this city, and I'm pretty sure I do, I'm gonna - I'm gonna guess that you're going to try and *urp* plunge the city into a new age of darkness and death and then go wreck up shit in your home dimension."

"W-what do you think, Morty?" asked Rick, casting a glance back over his shoulder at Morty, who was staring at Ghostfreak. "Y-y-you think your grandpa can take this guy? You'd put money on that?"

"Aw, jeez."

The Christmas cottage > CHRISTMAS TOWN

Ben raised an eyebrow. "So you are from Earth. I guess you might just be from a different time period then. Uh... I don't know much about Japan other than the Sumo Slammers games," he chuckled, looking a bit sheepish. He followed her out the door, looking around in awe at all the rides and games, all holiday themed. Ben's face grew into a great smile and he looked at Eve.

"Check out these awesome rides!" he shouted, grabbing her hand and running towards what looked like a roller coaster covered in ice. He read the sign. Polar Coaster. The cars were all colored red, green and white and shaped like little sleighs, with the head of a reindeer in the front. "Wanna ride this one Eve?" he asked her.

City streets

Ghostfreak tilted his head slightly at Rick and Morty, scoffing a bit. "While that does sound enjoyable, the god protecting this City would not permit me to do that. No, my plan is far more personal. All I wish is to make the Tennyson boy suffer! And what better revenge than turning his home planet into a Corrodium-tainted wasteland? Perfect for the people of the Anur system to thrive in... and the humans to die in." He glanced at Sora again.

"All I have to do is contact my associate, and he can start the process. And as long as I do not break any rules in the Library, there is nothing any of you can do to stop me!" he exclaimed, starting to move towards the Library.

Ciri - Prison

"Excellent," Ciri said with a nod, then a curious look as his arm transformed and he destroyed his cell door. She couldn't help bet let out a slight laugh. The rashness of youth, she supposed. "If you wanted to leave, all you had to do was ask."

She opened up a gate, a slight shimmering tear in reality in front of her. She conjured it to lead to the relatively empty balcony location she had appeared at, since it seemed like a safe place where she could go to and get a good vantage. It would be helpful for getting her bearings and finding the library if she didn't have any help, though she hoped she would. "I'll be off, then, though if you care to show me the way to the library instead of walking there yourself, you're more than welcome to come," she said to Rex.

With that, she went through the portal, and then either with the help of Rex or whatever random citizens she could find on the streets, made her way to the library, teleporting to the front door.

Eve|Outside Cottage|Walking In A Winter Wonderland

Eve looked outside, and her hands flew to her mouth. It was beautiful. Snow covered the area. She had never been to an amusement park before. They very rarely had time. She gasped as Ben grabbed her hand and blushed slightly. She looked up at the ride and grinned back at Ben.

"Sure."

She did have something to do at the Library (two things, actually) but it could wait for after this very pretty looking ride.

Prison —> Outside the Library — +10 Stealth

After Rex was done with his less than stealthy solution to being in jail, Ciri revealed that she could actually create portals to leave the prison.

"...Oh"

Come to think of it, that did explain how she had entered the prison. Guess he should have connected the dots sooner. Or at least asked.

"I'm in!" he said, stepping into the portal.

After a while of walking around the city, getting lost, finding their track again, and confirming that the city had a holiday themed look the duo, finally found the library.

"Here's the place. Keep a low profile and Tairee won't be much of a pain in the neck" Rex put on the Groucho glasses "Do you think people are going recognize me?"

Library

The Miss Tairee Arcade approached, Miss Tairee 3, nodded to him after his question. "Yes, I need to know who you wish to contact, so I can check what they're currently doing and what the most convenient method of contacting them would be" Miss Tairee 3 told him, still typing on her own holographic screen.

The Miss Tairee Fate then approached, Miss Tairee 1, told her much the same.

Amidst the streets

A familiar voice was yelling out from down the street to Jack's side. "What ho, lad! Over here!" Approaching down the street came Sir Redring, his hat now a vibrant and somewhat reflective green with the feather that had been in it replaced with a four leaf clover; Sir Redring himself had been changed to some kind of red and white candy cane stripe pattern, sort of like Jack's staff. Trailing behind him was Seirwuosuhr in a pink tutu with red hearts on it, looking confused and a little bit nervous. Tommy seemed to be wrapped up like a mummy with black bat shapes on the bandages.

"Are you by chance also taking children to the library?" Sir Redring asked as he got closer and noticed Jack's entourage.

Leaving the cottage

Thomas and Louie followed the others outside to take a look around. "So, Ben, we don't have anything important to do today?" Thomas asked Ben, apparently figuring since it was a break day and all. "I'm going to head to the library, to see if I can send my parents a letter or something" the young wizard said, then looked to Louie and added, "what about you, Louie? Aren't your parents going to be worried about you?"

"Huh? Nah not really. I've already been away from home for a couple years now; in my world it's normal... I would like to tell them about this new adventure I'm on, but it can wait until later; I'm in no rush" Louie responded.

"Well, I guess that's up to you then, but I'd really rather not wait. So I'll be off then; you guys have fun" Thomas told them, and headed off to look for the library.

"I've got morning stretches to do, so I'll see you at the end of the ride" Louie told Ben and Eve, walking off to where the exit of the ride was.

Hospital

"Hey now, cheer up boy! There's plenty of candy stalls out there; why don't you go have some nice treats?" Martha suggested, then walked out the door. "I'll let you change now. You're free to stay or go, dear" she told Cole, then closed the door and left down the hall.

Prison

"Rex?! REX!" Wells voice said from down the corridor, coming around the corner just after Rex and Ciri had stepped through the portal. "That damn idiot!" the soldier yelled after moving up to the cell and seeing that Rex was completely gone.

"Did he not realize we have cameras in here?!" Wells asked nobody in particular.

Cinema

The Fanboys didn't seem to be in any hurry to wake up; most of them being late sleepers. But one of them was up, and noticed Curly was also up. "Morning Curly. So hey, I never did get to finish that thought from yesterday" Chuck greeted Curly, sitting on one of the nearby theater seats with a cup of hot cocoa he'd just brought back from the lobby.

"So, I think I might know about who you are; tell me, just what were you up to before you got brought here?" Chuck asked her quietly, since the others were still asleep.

Plague Knight's lab

There was a slight tapping noise on the floor just behind Plague Knight as the sapling followed him through the diner. Although it looked fairly different now, it seemed to be following Plague Knight around with no less enthusiasm. The hornet as usual stayed hovering around the honey flower, looking around with curiosity. Of course, now the hornet was colored pink with white stripes, its wings colored red and shaped like cartoon hearts, and on top of its head were some golden laurels.

Library ~ Showtime?

When Miss Tairee asked who Fate wished to contact, she found herself hesitating.

Chances were she'd get the confirmation she was looking for here, or at least further confirming if what she had read last night was really true or not. However, what she knew so far was seriously distressing. Perhaps it would have been better if she turned away now and just kept hoping for the best?

She gave Arf an unsure glance, which Arf replied with one of her own.

"...If you're that undecided, Fate, we have all day. If it would make you feel better, you don't have to do it now." She turned and observed the rest of the library. "And I suggest you make a decision quick. I doubt the rest of the people here want to be kept waiting."

Fate turned away, before taking a deep breath and clenching her hands into fists. No, she had decided to do this at the start of the day. She couldn't keep putting it off.

"...I wish to contact my mother, Presea Testarossa," she said, "I can provide dimensional coordinates for her location, if that would make things easier for you."

Ciri - Library

"Well, for what little it's worth, I can say that I don't recognize you," Ciri said to Rex, casting her gaze around the building. It looked as though it were a masquerade ball crossed with a harvest festival inside the building. Everyone wearing costumes of some sort, pumpkins being carried around - even on someone's head as though it were a helmet - for some reason. "You have my thanks for leading me here, I believe I have enough familiarity with libraries to manage now."

Ciri approached a desk, clearing her throat and saying "Miss," to the woman behind it. Who also looked like many of the other women there. She doubted such a thing was purely coincidence, and chalked it up to more of the oddities in the city. "Pardon the interruption, but I wish to have an audience with the head librarian."

The Library, Christmas Funk
Seeing the cavalcade of other folks dressed in insulting holiday clothing at the library did give Seiga a little fortitude, knowing that she wasn't alone in this duress. At least she had the opportunity to take off her beard and shove it in a bag, it didn't seem like Ms. Tairee had that option for her ears.

Seiga might've pitied her if she wasn't a terrible person. Tairee, that is.

Yoshika was able to have the same solace, but in a different way. Across the lines from her, there was one familiar dog-girl-combo who seemed to have the same problem. If Arf caught Yoshika's gaze, she might be able to recognize what it conveyed: deep understanding.

Then, when their turn came up, Seiga pulled Yoshika along and nodded to the one of multiple librarians before her. "I'm here about a message, I believe I filed it during the 13th day? And, I might want to send a message back home if possible."

Yoshika noticed the familiar sight of a certain box, and it clicked on an equation in her head. Box + Paper = Killing Lobster. She pointed at it, and said "Can I put in a suggestion now?"

Cole just watched Martha as she left the room, telling him he should cheer up, go out and find treats, or...something of that sort. He didn't bother to tell her why the idea of finding "treats" seemed like less than fun to him, just nodding a bit as she left the room, leaving him there alone.

The thought of just...staying here. It was tempting. To just crawl back into the bed, close his eyes, and lay there, silent, waiting. Just...waiting for whenever this supposed happiness ended again and the pain returned, all the sharper for having had its blade whetted by the easy forgetfulness that came from good cheer. To just lay down and wait to die, the way he had told Lewis they should, on the darker day...

It was what he wanted, more than anything.

Still, somehow, he found the will to stay on his feet. To remove the gown he'd been given for sleeping, and to work with the surprisingly complicated outfit his clothes had apparently been turned into. Most people would have probably been a little embarrassed to be wearing the outfit...a pink bunny suit was hardly one for somebody with a shred of dignity. Cole, however, didn't see anything particularly objectionable about it. It was soft, it was warm, and keeping the hood up felt like wearing his hat.

If his hat was going to be this basket with the little shiny egg shapes in it, at least he had something to put over the top of his head. And honestly, he liked rabbits enough that dressing like one was a strange novelty. He guessed he liked it, inasmuch as one could like something like clothing.

A little bit of navigation was required to find his way down from his room and out of the hospital. He did his best to avoid the elevator...stairs took longer but they weren't quite so small and closed. And within a few minutes of wandering, he found his way through the exit and to the world outside.

Surprisingly bright and cacophonic, out here.

Cole stood on the street, looking around for a moment, eyes wide, trying to take it all in. Everything was...everything was. He didn't know words to describe so much of what he was seeing. Tall scaffolds of metal taller than he'd ever seen, arranged so high that it was nearly dizzying to look upon them. He could hear screams in the distance, though none of them sounded afraid. It was more like the squealing of children, running and playing, than anything else.

He shouldn't be getting so used to things being so alien and bewildering.

Cole didn't know what to do now. He didn't want to overstay his welcome at the hospital, but he didn't want to take off his amulet either. And without it, he had no idea how to find anyone...and frankly, he didn't know if he wanted to find them.

For the time being, he just stood where he was on the pathway, basket tucked over an arm, clutching at the stuffed bunny from it, staring at the roller coaster in front of him blankly.

Library

"Your system of coordinates will not be necessary, but thank you" Miss Tairee 1 said, typing on her computer since she was the one at the desks. "Looks like... Ah, this should work. One moment" the librarian added, tapping a few keys, and quickly some kind simple tablet appeared on the desk in front of Fate.

"This will allow you to make one video call to your mother by pressing that button, and then you can hang up by pressing again; it will only respond if you press it, so don't worry about it getting turned on by accident or anyone hanging it up for you. Once either you or your mother hang up, or once this day ends, it will disappear from existence" Miss Tairee explained to Fate; given the nature of her world, said call was probably going to be magical/techno-magical on Presea's end.

Miss Tairee 1 then turned her attention to Ciri. "I am the head librarian, and also the only librarian" Miss Tairee answered Ciri. "What can I do for you?" the librarian then asked.

Meanwhile, Miss Tairee 8 was the one Seiga and Yoshika came to. "On the thirteenth day would've been impossible, since the library was not here" Miss Tairee 8 informed Seiga simply as she typed on her holographic screen. "Also it appears that you actually filed two messages, however my boss responded to both at once. Here you are" the librarian continued, as a simple envelope appeared with a blur in front of Seiga and floated there until she took it.

Then Miss Tairee 8 glanced at Yoshika and nodded. "Yes, you may use the suggestion box whenever it is present" Miss Tairee 8 told her simply.

Whenever Seiga got around to reading the letter, she'd read the following:

Seiga Kaku;

My title and name will be revealed in due time, but now is not that time. The changes and effects caused to your universe once you have returned with these new experiences is part of this project, so therefore you will be required to return home, and not allowed to stay within the city, no. As for your concerns with my assistant, she is not allowed to enact the sort of things you seem to fear so long as you are part of the project, unless you give her reason to by breaking the rules within the library.

As for the points you have made, I will remind you that technically, deus ex machina is what brought you to my city in the first place. And furthermore, you were already denied the option of forging your own path when you were brought here without your prior knowledge or consent. What you choose to do in the city, and what you choose to do once back home, are both your decisions to make; but being brought here, and being sent home, are not.

As usual, underneath that was a constantly shifting, multi-dimensional scribble that was impossible for Seiga to read and would give her a headache if she looked at it for too long; or in other words, the signature of Miss Tairee's boss.

The Spook Was Gone For Now, Forrest Gump

The grandpa didn't come up an answer for my question. He just made a few comments on how the spook is goin' to wreck havoc and mayhem on the entire city or somethin' like that. The grandpa had a real strange way of talkin'. He liked repeatin' himself, and he liked to burp a lot.

Then the spook left. He said somethin' about sendin' that message to a friend of his. As long as he don't break the rules, he ain't goin' be sealed in that bubble a-gain. Just to rub it in, the spiky-haired kid mentioned scissors when the spook left. Could that be that spook's weakness?'

“Oh, well. The spook is gone for now. Care for some chocolates?”

I looked inside my suitcase, and everythin' had changed to match St. Patrick's Day. My Bubba-Gump Shrimp cap became another tophat. The magazine's picture also changed. Lt. Dan was dressed up patriotically, since he was a veteran. I was wearin' my Leprechaun outfit even though I started wearin' it today. Even my Curious George book had changed to “Happy Saint Patrick's Day, Curious George”! The cover even had Curious George dressed as a leprechaun. Was this book really a thing?

I opened up my box of chocolates to see that my chocolates turned into chocolate coins and chocolate shamrocks. Some of were green to fit the theme.

City Streets

A faintly familiar voice rising over the crowd caught Jack's attention, making the spirit pause where he was floating to try and keep track of his little group, and turn to the sound. Spotting the owner of the voice, a faint pang of guilt hit him when he realized he'd forgotten to find the octopus walking towards him. Then it was gone, and he grinned at the garishly festive looking Sir Redring. "Sir Redring!"

After a quick word to the kids not to wander too far, the winter spirit turned back to the octopus and landed. It was then that he noticed a familiar figured following along. He glanced from Seirwuosuhr to the mummy next to her, and grinned. "Hey See, Tommy. How are you two?" Then looking back at Redring, he chuckled. "Well, that was the original plan, but after seeing everything around we all agreed that it could wait. I assume you're doing something similar?"

Lewis - Library ==> Plague Knight's Lab - Mystery Sugar Skulls

Day 14
Plague Knight offered his number gladly as he swept up the little flower his hornet had seemingly taken a liking to. As I followed him (and Garrett) off to his lab, evidently a vacant bar that had been turned into a makeshift research facility, I saved it to my phone and then sent a short text his way, so that he might add mine like Caro did. After some cleaning up, I decided to pass out, partly for lack of anything better to do but mostly because, having realized I could, I preferred to go back to doing so regularly.

A Dream Sequence, because one came to me and I couldn't resist writing it out
Of course, it wasn't quite the same as sleeping when alive, and while it wasn't as if I could observe myself doing it, I could conjecture as to the reason for the difference. It's fairly well-known that sleep in most beings I know of consists of two stages: the one where the mind works on sorting information, and the one where the body works on restoring itself while the mind lays low. Normally, people dream only during the former, and rarely if ever the latter.

But there's almost never anything to restore as far as my body is concerned, so the dreamless phase is completely useless, and gets dropped. Which means a steady stream of dreams, which like anyone else I can remember having but don't always recall the contents.

But I remembered this one, unfortunately, so you get to sit through it.

I don't recognize where I am, and I try to glance around but have trouble because I can't seem to turn to look at things. The lighting sucks, but for some reason I feel more than see an overwhelming amount of...green? (Why does that give me deja vu?) For some reason, I have the vague sense that I should be feeling excruciating pain.

The place disappears before I can register what it is, and there are scenes of people I know, some good, some bad, many of them incoherent because dreams aren't known for making sense, but they all feel real, like I'm actually there. Despite that, I can't do anything but observe even if I try, and my presence never gets acknowledged.

The scenes end. The green is back. I try again to make sense of what it is and realize the reason I can't act is because I'm in that fucking pit again. There's still no pain, but I'm exactly as mute and immobile as I remember.

There's no ambience, no melody. Just deafening silence.

It's maddening.

I get stir-crazy and let my eyes wander. There's nothing of note, except for a slip of paper to my right. It's just barely within reach, and if I struggle to extend my grasp as far as possible, I can take it.

I take it. There's a yellow four-point star drawn on it, except the drawing keeps rotating like a gif. I stare at it, and I can swear it's becoming an actual point of light instead of a drawing.

It feels warm...

Day 15
And then I woke up, jarred and willing to let most of that sequence evaporate from my memory. Although, I did almost want to see where that was going at the end. Almost. I distracted myself by looking around, noticing that the bar/makeshift lab looked far different than it had before, as though a certain entity had vomited every international holiday they could remember the existence of into this one room.

That, and the fact that I was still in the lab in the first place instead of having been teleported to some random alley in my sleep. That was a new one.

Also that something was different about my outfit, which is not an easy thing to miss when it's essentially a part of you. For one, I was pretty sure I had a cape and shoulder plates, among other things that weren't there before.

But most importantly, it was morning. And that meant one thing, and that one thing was a hallelujah in the form of a video call to the love of my kinda-sorta-life, mandating nothing but a quick trip to the library within the next 24 hours or so.

A top hat dropped down from my head as I jolted up to confirm that yes, I had a cape now. I caught it, noting the purple band of what resembled silk wrapped around it, and the accompanying purple rose with a golden glow coming from its center, its stem held in place by said band.

While I could tell at a glance that it wasn't the same one and certainly didn't have that tracking ability, it looked identical to the one left behind by that plant lady moments before I'd been dropped here. I'd ignored it before, for the most part, but here it was, sorta.

I didn't much care for the rest of the hat, but I did want to hold on to that specifically, so I set it down in the meantime while I checked just what was up with my clothes.

I conjured a mirror where I had space, one that somehow came out having a frame absolutely covered in generic Cupid molds despite me not trying to make those at all, and found that it was indeed possible for me to light up even brighter than I had upon waking up and realizing what was in store for the day. That Christmas tree standing precariously on one of the stools was going to have a run for its money.

The decals, the flowers, the elaborate facepaint that someone could spend days on and still feel the need to improve upon it, in the context of the holiday vomit...sign me the fuck up.

But first, I wanted to adjust some things.

This sash was too long. I didn't want to trip over it if I had to walk, which considering I just couldn't seem to stay afloat when at the library, somewhere I was going to be stopping by for sure today, was a bit of a nuisance. I untied and retied it so that some of the length was now restrained in a bow.

I wasn't a big fan of jabots. That had to go too, if I couldn't somehow force it into a bow as well. Which I did, lucky for it.

Now back to the rose. I tried to pry it from the hat, taking care not to damage the flower. As I did this, I pricked one finger against a thorn, which was oddly painless even by my standards but bothered me nonetheless. For one, why would you ever put this in an outfit without pruning it first, and for another, wasn't this a bit of a hazard?

So I spent a few moments pruning away at it, idly counting the number of thorns as I removed them. 10, 11, 12, 13. Truly a bad omen, if you believed in that sort of thing. I burned them, dissolving them into magic, and squirreled the hat away in the bag I'd been carrying my things in,note  on the off-chance I changed my mind about wearing it. (I could have dispersed it, I supposed, since it was still a magical construct, but there wasn't much advantage to that over keeping it around.) That done, I knew the perfect spot for it, and that spot was just above a gorgeous blue orchid tucked behind the lapel of my suit.note

That left one last alteration to make: a dry-looking sunflower just below the aforementioned orchid Why? Why had the writer guy included this in the first place? Why?

I pulled it out forcefully and threw it to the floor, infuriated to have it physically on me. I glared at the cursed thing, its resemblance to a certain someone fairly obvious even without it radiating his essence like the last one did.

I looked at my reflection again, which is to say I looked at the mirror I'd conjured displaying the annoying habit common to mirrors of occasionally not showing my reflection and instead showing the image of my living self with less-than-lively eyes and an empty space where the locket should be, thwacked the frame of the thing, and then looked at my reflection again, holding one end of the cape in such a way as to expose the bass clef embedded seamlessly into the corner. It looked great, just...

The lapel looked emptier than it should have been. Moving the orchid and rose around didn't seem to fix it, unfortunately. It felt wrong to not fill that space, but I didn't have anything to fill it with except...

Ugh, fine, I'd wear the fucking sunflower. It wasn't like this one was linked to him or anything. I put it back in its original spot, though not without switching the places of the orchid and rose first.

I took one last look, taking a bit of a stance just to see how it looked at that particular angle. There. Apart from me irrationally projecting my bitterness about being murdered onto a flower, it was perfect. If only I could just stop doing that...

Maybe if I just didn't think about it too hard, it'd stop bothering me. Yeah. Just act like you don't care. Eventually you won't, and things will be easier, right? It's just a flower.

Remembering I had a phone again, I took a picture of myself, before deciding to leave. Based on the fact that I hadn't seen them, Garrett and Plague Knight must have headed out. I knew Garrett definitely wanted to message someone where he came from, so maybe he was on his way to the library already.

I went outside, dispelling the mirror, determined to let this be the good day it was supposed to be. And as if on cue, the sights outside granted my wish.

Firstly, unlike the demented carnival of two days ago today provided an amusement park worth ten million bucks, games and rides decked out with snow and hearts and fresh grass and just about every color and actually functional and fun-looking. like the roller coaster with sleighs for cars off and to the left, or the distant Ferris wheel visible in the skyline that seemed to be decked out in pastel reds and pinks and whites and that I speculated might have been playing romantic music if I were close enough to hear any.

Secondly, Garrett and Plague Knight were twinning in their silly Santa outfits. It didn't fit either of them at all.

Rude as it may have been, I laughed. Loudly.

"Ah-ha! Oh man, that's amazing! Those are so unfitting on you that they wrap right back around to perfect! Ahahahahaha!"

This continued for a bit too long.

Okay, okay, giggling fit done. Time to be mature instead of laughing like a 7 year old. I composed myself, and let out a calmer though still audibly gleeful "So how's your morning?"

Arcade didn't hesitate when he answered the Tairee. "Her name's Daisy Whitman," he said. He then took a steadying breath. Anything could've happened in the years they were apart- he had to get back to them, though, no matter what.
