Unfortunately, Rex would never learn. Legion sputtered and died directly after Rex turned. The geth was no longer able to support itself, and with no backups, no longer wanted to. If Undyne were present she would be able to feel the geth's soul - because Tali'Zorah was right, Legion had a soul - break in half.

Several seconds later, however, in that strange void that not many could really see into... Legion's soul refused.

Legion booted up within 1.753 seconds, at full functionality and capability, and unfolded itself from storage mode to stare out over the jungly city. The geth felt confused, for some reason, but upon looking at its memory logs it stopped dead.

All processes froze as Legion realized it remembered its own termination.

The geth vaguely remembered its promise to Rex and began broadcasting on an open radio frequency. "I am Legion. I am alive." That was all it said. Setting the broadcast to repeat, the geth sat down and thought for a very, very long time, trying to deal with the knowledge of its own death that it still carried along with it.

"Oh... man," said Morty appreciatively as he listened to Ben's story as the trio made their way into the library. "I mean... t-t-that sounds, that sounds pretty neat. I wish I could, uh, I could breathe fire or turn into cool... alien... guys... or something. But, uh, if this Vilgax person w-wants your omni thing, i-i-it's safe for now, right? Unless he, uh, finds a way to get in here." Morty rubbed the back of his head self-consciously as he swallowed. "Uh... did that make you feel worse?"

"I guess I'm, uh, pretty normal compared to most of you guys, though," he finally admitted to both Ben and Lune, looking down dejectedly. "There's, there's not much that makes me special."

"Aw yes, the armored demon," Plague Knight said. "Tomorrow's change might not be sufficiently deadly enough to distract him, and he might target the others for revenge. Let us return to my lab! I already have some delicious deadly ideas for disease to brew up to try on him! I am sure the others would notify any newcomers of the Battle Brother."

Library lobby

There were more people here? More that had been trapped her just like them? That wasn't good. Well, Mary did say they were nice, but Mary also didn't strike Sadness as the type to hold a grudge against anyone.

Two youngish people were in the library. One of them, the boy, was talking to a weird lady holding some spaghetti. Mary exclaimed that they could go meet them, and grabbed her hand excitedly.

Sadness jumped and tentatively tried to tug her hand away. Either Mary didn't remember her powers or she didn't care. Crying over bad memories was all well and good, but there was a time and a place...

"Well...if you think meeting those people is a good idea...okay, I guess we can, um, say hi."

Rick's lab

While Rex was waiting for Viktor to answer, Legion shut down and vanished. Rex was really angry at—well—whoever was in charge of this. He just let giant monsters on the loose expecting that a group formed by people of different universes could stop them. He needed some answers and he was determined to get them.

"He... just disappeared" Rex went outside the lab only speaking to tell Viktor what he had in mind "I'm going to leave alone if you don't mind, I... I've got something—or better said—someone to deal with" He created his wheelless motorcycle and drove off but not beforing saying goodbye to the machine herald "See you on the library!"

Driving away from the lab

While driving to the library, Rex started thinking about what had just happened. What did Legion meant by "coming back"? And what did Miss Tairee had to with this?

And when was it going to stop raining wet paper?

The library

Rex entered the building realizing that people he hadn't seen before were talking but he didn't have time to meet new characters right now. he needed to talk with Miss Tairee.

He approached her desk "New meat? I'm offended. Doesn't your boss find us entertaining enough?" though he was joking a bit he really meant that. Tairee's boss transported more people to the city and most of them didn't seem strong enough to survive. He was lucky to come from a world were fighting with monsters was an everyday thing but he knew he couldn't protect everyone.

"Why did you let Legion die?" he said almost shouting and pointing at Tairee. His fist became a giant sword that came within a hair of the receptionist's face.

Miss Tairee had still been typing away until she saw Rex approaching and prepared to address him, only to be shouted at and have a sword pointed in her face. She didn't seem fazed in the slightest, only raising an eyebrow slightly.

"I don't believe I've really let anyone specifically die. I can understand if you want to blame me for not helping outside this building, but it's not like I forced any of you to leave" Miss Tairee said, looking at Rex. "Besides, Legion is perfectly alive again I assure you, just presumably lost somewhere else in the city right now. Death is inconsequential here for all standard residents. If you'd like to see for yourself, then go ahead, use that sword" she added, managing to frame the question while keeping a sly smile to a minimum.

Library

"Oh, of course!" Mary assured, looking at all the people, until she made up her mind on she was going to introduce Sadness to first. "Here, come on!"

With that said, the fabricated girl started to walk with the small blue emotion in tow. Even though she had been holding Sadness' hand until Sadness tugged it off, she still seemed to be as enthusiastic as usual. Whether or not it'd had any effect on her, her face didn't show.

Soon she found herself right behind Ben, pondering for a few moments how to get his attention. In the end, however, she opted for the simple approach.

"Hey Ben!" she yelled with a wide smile. "I want you to meet Sadness! Oh, and to show you something too!"

Viktor looked down at the ground after seeing Legion's death, before nodding to Rex as he went off to the library.

Viktor remembered Legion saying something about contacting the group if he were to be revived, if so, then he shall make sure to try and find him.

He made his way off the lab, headed for where he thought the library was.

"Ugh...."

He really should had asked Rex for a ride.

Library

Morty's nothing special, huh? Lune thought to herself for a moment or two before recalling someone who was also nothing special until he proved himself to the Steel Dragons.

"Well, there's this guy I knew. His name was Touma Kanou. He was this delivery boy who joined the Steel Dragons, and he really wasn't anything special, other than the fact that he practices martial arts. He wanted to help us out, so he test-piloted the robot we just captured and modified. During his first run, he got brainwashed by the robot and went berserk. We had to stop his rampage, and he was put out of commission for a while. When he recovered, he got a second chance to prove himself. After some training, he finally showed off his skills by creating a new technique, the Rising Meteor. This was after the robot attempted to make him go crazy again, but he just shrugged it off with pure determination. What I'm saying is that you can be just as awesome as Touma. All you need is some hard work and determination."

After finishing her story, Lune spotted Rex threatening Ms. Tairee. She asked, "Uh, what's going on here?"

Gon watched the others interact with each other until he saw Rex... do his thing with Ms. Tairee.

"Ahh..." Gon went to see Lune. "I heard someone died today and he blames her for it, although she's trying to reassure him that the person called Legion is still alive."

The library

Tairee's stoic reaction to being threatened by a giant sword really unnerved Rex because the only two other people that didn't react to him threatening them were an evil supercomputer that could destroy nanites and a vampire with the ability to regenerate and control plants. And Miss Tairee was daring Rex to slay her.

"What? No one can die here? But what about the monsters we fought a few hours ago? And the armored guy from yesterday?"

Rex simply absorbed his sword, there was no real danger so even if the monsters were to reappear they wouldn't be a real threat. For once, Rex didn't need to save people. It felt weird.

A girl, probably around Rex's age, approached them wondering what was going on.

"Oh, you know; the usual. I just found out we're basically immortal on the city."

He hadn't paid much attention to her as he was still a bit shocked by Tairee's revelation but as soon as he looked at her, Rex suddenly stopped thinking about the whole thing.

"The real question is: Who are you, señorita?"

As Ben's thoughts again began to turn towards his stomach, he heard the familiar high-pitched voice of Mary, and he turned around, seeing her with the small blue character that he had assumed was an alien. Sadness, huh? Certainly seemed like a gloomy little individual. He crouched down a bit so he was at eye level with Mary and Sadness.

"Hi Sadness. I'm Ben Tennyson," he greeted her. He then looked back up at Mary. "So what was that thing you wanted to show me?" he asked her. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Rex approach Lune and begin to flirt with her. For some reason that he didn't quite understand yet, that bugged him a tad, but he ignored it and looked back towards Mary and Sadness.

"Ah... Thanks for the heads up," replied Lune to Gon.

Lune looked over at Rex and sighed. Oh, another boy after Lune's heart. Hopefully, he won't get as lost as Masaki, right?

"Oh. Well, I'm Lune. Who are you?"

The library

"My name's Rex. I constantly deal with monsters like the one that apparently didn't kill Legion. You should have seen me in action."

"Standard residents" Miss Tairee emphasized, not caring that she was interrupting Rex and Lune. "The plants and bugs that appeared today are only here for this day, with very few exceptions; the monsters you slayed out there earlier won't be coming back. As for that armored fellow from yesterday, yesterday there were no special cases, so he is still alive somewhere in the city as well" she explained to Rex.

"Now is there anything else I can help you with?" Miss Tairee asked, her expression once again looking a bit bored.

Lune decides to play with Rex. If he doesn't catch on, he might be worth a barrel of laughs for a day or two, maybe.

"Yeah, you must've kicked a lot of butt! How tough were the monsters?"

After listening to the interruption, which was needed because Lune was still a little clueless on how this town works, Lune speaks up. Best to not look a gift horse in the mouth, right> "Well, I could use a sleeping bag, and some rations for on-the-go-snacking."

Legion's long thought about the nature of life and the experience of death was interrupted by a nagging warning. The sun was starting to set, which meant the topography of the area was likely to change. It needed to return to the library or it would likely be seperated from its erstwhile allies.

Shelving its thoughts for the time being, and resolving to find a quiet corner to continue thinking about them, the geth plotted a course over the walkways and began jogging back towards the library, not quite wanting to waste time, but viewing a full-on sprint like it had done when Plantera killed it as highly inefficient.

Half an hour or so of movement and course correction and Legion strolled into the library via one of the walkways, not at all bothering to hide its presence, its leg servos whining. The geth shut off the radio broadcast before taking a look around.

"Um...hi," Sadness said simply. This was good. Ben seemed nice enough...totally normal, even. And he had a cool watch.

She was curious to know what Mary had in mind to show him, so she looked at her friend, letting her do all the talking.

Sluuuurp

A contented sigh. Undyne set down her now-empty bowl on a table and lay down on the couch, hands behind her head. The Day would be over soon. She wasn't sure she was prepared for tomorrow. Not after what happened to-

"LEGION!" Her eye widened as the familiar machine walked in. She leaped up, running, and picked him up in a bearhug and spun him around with surprising ease. "I knew no friend of mine was weak enough to let something like that kill him!"

She grinned happily as she set him down.

The Library

As Legion took a look around the geth immediately noticed a blue projectile heading towards it at ridiculous speeds. The geth worked fast - within half a second it identified the projectile as Undyne and determined that the monster was headed directly for it.

A quarter-second before Undyne picked it up it realized that it wasn't going to be able to dodge or juke whatever was to come. The geth braced for impact, and was mildly surprised when Undyne grabbed it and spun it around, proclaiming that she had known it wouldn't have been killed by Plantera.

The geth felt the urge to correct Undyne, but it didn't. It couldn't quite place why; it just figured it wouldn't be a good idea. "I have been through worse," the geth fibbed.

Library

"Hang on, I got it right here," Mary replied, taking her sketchbook out of the color-changing bag and flipping through the crayon drawings. "Ah, here it is! Look!"

It was at that moment that she almost shoved the drawing she'd meant to show Ben straight into his face, such was her enthusiasm over getting his opinion on her artwork. Luckily she soon pulled it back a bit so that he'd get a better look at it.

The drawing itself was not too bad: in it were Ben and Alice, both standing in the wooden library with smiles on their faces. She'd even taken the time to somewhat draw Ben's watch, albeit poorly and on the wrong hand. Next to them were two different dolls: one was Alice's black-dressed doll, floating near her; the other resembled Ben and sat right next to the boy's leg. On the background, light brown formed a few wooden planks that weren't filled in, while the windows were messily filled in with green to reflect the vegetation.

Except one, from where a single blue head stared at the duo in the foreground.

With lots of stubby black hair, big red eyes with black pupils, and a grin so wide and crooked it looked more like a red crack in the window rather than a mouth, it contrasted heavily with pretty much everything else in the entire drawing; particularly with the other characters, who had far simpler smiles and hair, and no blue skin.

From behin the sketchbook, Mary's blue eyes examined Ben's face curiously, waiting for a reaction.

"Do you like it? I drew it myself!"

Ben winced as the picture was suddenly pushed into his face and he pushed it back a bit more so he could get a better look. Immediately, his eye was drawn to the strange blue creature in the image's background. It looked completely out of place and it wasn't something he recognized at all. He was so dumbstruck by this creature that he didn't even notice his Omnitrix was depicted on the wrong arm. Instead, he pointed to it and looked over at Mary.

"It's really cool and all, but what is this?" he asked, looking and sounding completely baffled. "I've never seen this thing before."

Library

Sadness scooted over to Ben's side so she could see the picture. It was at Ben's eye level, so it was too tall for her. While they talked, she stood on her tiptoes, hopped up and down, and finally had to climb up onto the couch.

"That looks nice," she offered.

The library

"It was a giant plant with a huge maw and bee the size of a bus. I think Gentaro took care of the insect, though. I wonder were that guy is." Rex said to Lune.

Legion then entered the library and was almost attacked by Undyne who confused him with an enemy. Rex walked up to the geth and said "You are alive!"

Legion didn't look any different from when he had died and his attitude was still as stoic as always, things were looking better. "So, how is the afterlife treating you?"

The Library

Of course, immediately after the geth had saved face with one of its allies, Rex came up and alluded to the fact it actually had died.

The geth made a show of its eye flaps moving about for several moments, before it responded with a slow "No data available."
