I live in England, I often do have to go though a rainstorm to get to the store. But the drug requests happen regardless of my clothing, I think I jus thane an approachable face, being it drug deals, German tourists trying to find somewhere to buy weed or little or ladies in need of directions, I get aprochee on the street a fair bit.
Leather jackets are the thing that realy alters perceptions, never where a leather jacket while hitch hiking, you won't get picked up unless the people actually know you.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI think it's less that he cares too much and more that he cares about it in the wrong way. Like the difference between a glutton and a gourmet. He's not tasteful about being tasteful. It also doesn't help that he has a sleazy, tacky, flashy, undignified demeanour that completely ruins the elegance of his clothes—and his clothes are elegant, more often than not. He would be cool if he weren't constantly asking the world "am I cool now?"
Now, counterargument:
Now, I wouldn't be one of these guys, but I sure feel like the world is a better place for having them around.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.trench coats are awesome, don't diss trench coats
advancing the front into TV TropesI think it's the fact that they look so genuinely happy in those things. No swagger, no pretension, no condescension, just pure joy at being all decked out.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.So I've been getting interested in goth/industrial style clubwear: There's this goth dance night I've been hitting about once a month, and I've started wanting to dress the part more, just as an exercise in taking risks with my personal style. Stuff isn't cheap though, though to some extent it depends upon what you're looking for. I've previously been just showing up in black jeans and black graphic tees, but now I also have this short-sleeved mesh top and some tight futuristic/cyberpunky pants. The pants have yet to make their public debut and I have some concerns: I'm not used to tight pants and I'm definitely not used to no pockets. There's not even a small place I could conceivably store cash and an ID, let alone a whole wallet, so actually going out in them will take some planning.
Update: I settled on getting a faux leather vest with pockets to go with the outfit. Looks like I could fit a cellphone, cash and ID if not a wallet.

I wish I had searched for this thread years ago, because I have an interest in fashion, at least on fashion illustration so far.
ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔|I DO COMMISSIONS|ᜇᜎᜈ᜔ᜇᜈ᜔I recently got cufflinks in NYC that have metal clasps and a turquoise stud on each side. They look better than I have described them.
This seems to be the thread to post about stuff like this.
Feels good, don't it?I am hopefully going into Toronto on Halloween to buy another pair of cufflinks. They will have white and black stripes.
Edit: Turns out I'll have to eventually buy them online, since the store has no physical location.

Feels good, don't it?Recently got a pair of suits for an absurdly low price.
Feels good, don't it?
LOL. Longcoats have this weird association with shady types. As far as I'm concerned, they only make sense in a weather that drops significantly below zero and/or involves lots of wind, especially if said wind carries rain or dust. A leather duster makes sense if you're traversing the Midwest on horseback. It does not make sense for going to the grocery store unless you need to walk through a storm to get there.
Personally, I love the things, though. I just wouldn't wear them!
Speaking of fashion bathos, I've been watching Parks And Recreation recently. Tom Haveford.
This guy.
He is everything The Dandy dreads being. He can make the most exquisite and tasteful outfits look ridiculous just by wearing them. He's part of the reason I've gotten considerably more chill about clothes, and started dressing down. He is like a storm cloud at the top of the mountain you've doggedly, senselessly tried to climb. If you're going to be a person who cares about style and elegance, take a good hard look at what Tom Haveford does, and then don't do that.
