Even back in 1937, I think the appeal of Snow White was more to make people go "whoa, look at the amazing things that can be done with animation!"
But when it comes to having characters and scenes that themselves are memorable for reasons outside of visual, the difference between Snow White and even Disney's very next movie Pinocchio are really noticeable.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. The Goodtimes Entertainment version did that. It's more accurate to the original tale, but you understand why the Disney version just cut it down to the one attempt:
There was also a book/audio tape of Snow White where the Magic Mirror is essentially Genie. Haha. Also the modern retelling in the form of 2007's Sydney White too—where the poisoned apple is a computer virus.
Mulan 2020 shows how being too different can earn a lot of ire as well. Either way, gotta be careful.
The anime Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics effectively showed all three of the witch's attempts and made it work (she doesn't "fail hilariously Wile E.Coyote style, though). The Dwarfs are barely around and get little development, so I suppose they had more time for that sort of thing.
Wasn't really sure where to post this, but wanted to share it as I find it interesting. Someone on Youtube posted a recent video of Disney World's Haunted Mansion showing a construction tent near the Endless Hallway.
I haven't seen Hocus Pocus 2 yet (my TV is busted and laptop doesn't stream things well) but a friend of mine was saying one of the things they didn't like was "they changed the original story"... which I guess means they retconned some things from the first film? Unfortunately they refused to really elaborate, which made me more curious. Anybody one here maybe could fill me in, or is it too spoiler-y?
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationI don't recall them changing anything whatsoever about the original story.
The only thing that maybe could count is that they establish the Sanderson sisters had an Evil Mentor and a sympathetic Start of Darkness years before the events we see in the backstory of the first film, but that's about it.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. There was an old draft that revealed the Sanderson sisters were half sisters. Their father was a warlock who interloped with two women and a dog, hence why one of the sisters acts like a blood hound.
It was cut with only remnants remaining.
A recent article giving updates on the Bambi remake.
And so it begins.
2019 Simba: "Wait... why did I have to lose my dad, but Remake Bambi doesn't have to lose his mom? Not fair!"
With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptationThey'll hopefully walk that back. I've hardly seen the original Bambi and even I think that would be one of the stupidest ideas ever. It is a BASIC part of his arc that can't in any way shape or form be ignored.
I'm gonna give Snow White 2024 a chance certainly. I think certain changes could have potential from what I've heard or what speculation there is.
I would've loved to see James Caan (God rest) play the live action Sykes. While he's not Italian, Javier Bardem would also be good though.
Tricky thing with each of these is how much you change and what you don't. They seem to usually go one extreme or the other most of the time.

...wait, why would you change the most iconic thing in Bambi?
If it means anything, the book that the 1942 film was based on didn't focus on the death of Bambi's mom. Mainly because the novel took to heart of how real deers raise their fawns. Namely by Bambi's first winter, he would have already been weaned and forced to live on his own away from his mother.
So instead of childhood trauma of your mother dying, it will be childhood trauma of your mother kicking you out of your home and forcing you to fend for yourself in the adult world. Before your second birthday.
My great (grand?) uncle-by marriage, not blood mind you, helped work on Bambi. David Hilberman to be precise, he was one of the guys that got HUAC'd by Walt.
"Any campaign world where an orc samurai can leap off a landcruiser to fight a herd of Bulbasaurs will always have my vote of confidence"It sounds to me like Bambi's mom is still going to die, just in a more toned-down way
I mean in the original it was entirely off-screen, not sure what they can really tone-down about that.
instead Bambi's mom has a sudden heart attack and dies!
New theme music also a boxThis is such a dumb adaptation decision. Bambi's mom dying is mostly what people remember from Bambi.
It's been 3000 years…It does seem pretty weird, Bambi is a highly timeless movie that could take place any time in History. The slower tempo surely show it is not a recent movie, but why would that be bad? Bambi's mother's death is already off-screen, differently from the much more recent The Lion King.
oh hey how are you doing?Goddamnit Light Yagami!
Light believes in canon events.
"When I offered to make Norea my third back-up girlfriend she just glared at me and started throwing things at me.." Renee CostaSince The Lion King 2019 didn't change the crucial plot element, I don't see why this would.
x2 and 3,
I know you're joking, but such a thing can't be Light's fault. The Death Note only works on humans.
I think the Mr. Magoo adaptation actually incorporated that.
