I'm hooked over the game's premise, but I feel too overwhelmed over having to build my own assets from scratch. One of my favorite things about Mario Maker 1 and 2 is that you already have all the toy's pieces ready and functional, so you can focus on using them for whatever thing you want to create.

But if they can provide a well-made tutorial, then I'll give it a try.

I'm not going to be getting this, probably, but I am super stoked it'll be a thing. It's gonna inspire a lot of people to get into the gaming industry ten or fifteen years ago, a lot like Warcraft and Starcraft custom map making did for me.

(*watches Game Builder Garage trailer twice*)

Heh. They make it look awfully easy...

(*has flashbacks of flunking programming classes in university*)

So, so easy...

Real talk, this is a *really* awesome idea, I just don't know if I can even think about programming. And building assets on my own. I mean, the trailer heavily implies they give you some assets, albeit super-basic ones, but...you get it.

Alas I wish I wasn't creatively bankrupt (and I already took the more traditional basic programming classes long ago) so that I could fully utilize the features of this game. I haven't even really made proper stages in Super Mario Maker (both of them).

I do wonder... would it be possible with this game to create top-view puzzle games? I always wanted to make something like that since my perennial love for Chip's Challenge, but I never managed to get onto the fanmade editing tools (not helped by the infamously numerous differences between the Windows and Atari Lynx versions of the original game, making it even harder to make levels that are easy to play in both of them). I wouldn't buy the game to make platform levels, because Mario Maker has that neatly covered, so being able to make something akin to a puzzle game with top-view perspective... that alone would definitely warrant a purchase for me! cool

I wonder if the Garage will allow you to make your own QTE's.

Game Builder Garage looks really cool. It reminds me of Wario Ware DIY mixed with Mario Maker and the Labo garage. Only about 30 bucks, too, which is much cheaper than Mario Maker 2. Regarding the BGM feature mentioned in the trailer, I hope there will be a suite that lets you compose your own music, as Wario Ware DIY had one and it was imo the best part of the game.

Also, is Nintendo prepared for what might happen when people try to make inappropriate games and upload them? I mean, we saw what happened with Smash Ultimate when the stage builder was added, surely Nintendo learned a lesson from that, right?

Looks very fun. I may get it and mess around for a while. As is the norm with these things, I assume other people will make things with it that are far more impressive than anything I could ever do.

Well, Sturgeon's Law will be inevitable. But as long as there are people who actually know what they're doing, it will ll be fine.

So the Switch has blown past the 3DS, GBA, and XBox 360, and is within striking distance of the PS3. Their sales forecasts tend to be conservative, so it's certainly possible they'll blow past the Wii and outsell the PS4 by FY end.

Also, wow, Mario Kart 8 DX just doesn't quit.

[up][up][up] The Mario Kart games have always been strong performers on any system they've been on.

I wouldn't be surprised if MK 8 DX would become the best selling Mario Kart and racing game of all time on its own by the end of this quarter on June 30th. If it doesn't, it will before September 30th.

Is there a chance of non-port Donkey Kong, Pikmin, and 2D Mario games coming to the Switch? (Or any other IP only represented by a port?)

[up]x2 Pikmin 4 is technically in the works according to Miyamoto, but we've never heard anything about it other then they're working on it, so who knows if it's actually happening or not.

Donkey Kong games seem to only get made when Miyamoto wants them made, so I'm not counting on a new Donkey Kong coming to the Switch anytime soon.

New Super Mario Bros. U kind of killed off the franchise. 2D Marios only really now exist through the Mario Maker games. There will probably not be any new 2D Mario games for a long time, and definitely no more coming to the Switch.

It's entirely possible that Retro has been working on another DKC. But they haven't released a new game in forever and nobody seems to know what's going on with them.
