I mean, all the characters are adults, right? The few child characters are easily identified by the fact they are half a head shorter than everyone else. I'm not suggesting anything sexual, just a romance system like most games of that same style provide.

Animal Crossing is (or was) mostly aimed at a younger audience, so Nintendo isn't going to let us romance the animals. Plus there's the whole issue people have with humans "loving" animals.

[up]Yeah, I don't think Nintendo wants to even include something like that. Especially considering what happened when SEGA did that....

It's not unheard of at least. The Magician's Quest games by Konami, which can be described as "Animal Crossing at a wizard school", lets you date the other characters regardless of species.

Well that's Konami. Nintendo wouldn't touch romance with a 10 foot pole.

The Tomodachi Life series is also a first-party Nintendo series where you can marry NP Cs.

...It's Animal Crossing.

Unless we're really gonna start courting furries (which is admittedly a profitable demographic, but also a dangerous one), Nintendo would have to be out of their minds to do that.

If they didn't touch romance with a 10 foot pole, Advance Wars would have had a new game by now.

It's me who wouldn't touch romance with a 10 foot pole. Ever.

I'll admit I haven't played Animal Crossing since I rented it for the Game Cube back when I was a 8 or 9, but isn't the whole point of these games community and friendship?

Romance would probably get in the way with that. Besides which, all of the player characters usually look like children, so I imagine them having romances would be pretty creepy.

Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley both have that shtick too but it also have romance and marriage, and they're pretty significantly developed pieces of content.

Not that I'm advocating for it in Animal Crossing, I could care less one way or another, but a game with no single end goal works pretty well with romance in general. Of course than there's the problem that each villager only has a dozen or so personalities and the very vague age of everyone involved, among other things

but it's not entirely incompatible with it by design.

[up][up]Friend, people here are only talking about love and romance. There's nothing creepy about that.

Style Boutique also have some romance in them, but alas none for the player character.

I think the cross-species aspect is what really makes it weird. If the player had an animal avatar you could get away with it due to the cartooniness of the setting, but having a human trying to romance animals is awkward at best, no matter how innocently they do it.

That, and like others have said, I don't think it really fits the style of the game. The whole thing is too casual for something like that. And then people would want it so that you can romance the major NP Cs and such and you'd end up with a whole genre of youtube videos where people try to speedrun marrying Resetti. I don't want to live in that reality.

At most I could see them maybe implementing a sort of "best friends" mechanic, where you pick one villager to be your favorite and maybe get a few bonus mechanics out of that, but I'd rather leave romance out of it.

[up][up][up],[up][up]: It also affects two other events, Valentine's Day (the opposite gender villager with the highest relationship with the player will give chocolate to them), and birthdays (the two villagers with the highest relationship will show up to the player's birthday party, goes down to the highest when going to a villager's birthday party).

Especially since you just know that doing so would involve glitching and resetting the game, for maximum irony.

Something else I just realized I'm really looking forward to - in the next Direct or released otherwise.

I'm hoping they announce a limited edition version of the Xenoblade port. It's one of my favorite franchises, and one I'll definitely want to get any extras. Especially since I bought the first game a few months after release, so I didn't get the red controller.

I have the limited edition of XB 2, but I didn't get the Pyra controller. I planned to get it, but when I saw it in stock a month or two post release I thought I had more time than I did.

So I'd be pretty happy if they announce another Xenoblade themed controller.

Speaking of limited editions, maybe its a tad hypocritical given the fact I've just said I'm planning on buying this one before its even announced.

But I really miss Nintendo's limited editions back in the 7th console generation. It was nice when they bundled a limited controller that was actually cheaper than buying it seperate. I.e Skyward Sword, Xenoblade, Goldeneye, Monster Hunter Tri.

I guess Fire Emblem Fates was also cheaper to get the limited edition. But that's the newest one I can think of.
