As a fan of Samurai X who watched the movie, I can confirm it's pretty damn great.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Out of curiosity, what's the ratio of good to bad movie adaptations of anime and manga in Japan?
With a '0', not an 'O'To answer that I would have to have watched, or even know about, all adaptations that exist. And I don't. There is quite a few of them. Here what I can say, though:
The only one I personally watched was Death Note, which wasn't bad. Aside that, I know the Negima series was terrible. I've heard good things of the Gantz and Nana (aside from the already mentioned Rurouni Kenshin). I don't really know much else.
As far I can tell, there haven't been no particularly amazing, or even famous, live action adaptation of manga/animenote . However, they don't tend to draw they "oh my god, please no" reaction. I don't think I've heard of anything as amazingly terrible as Dragon Ball Evolution.
Hollywood had the bad luck of making two terrible adaptation of animations in quick succession, completely crushing the hopes they could ever do it right.

LOL the only live movie adaptations I watched are Death Note and Rurouni Kenshin. The former is notable for me because his dad eats the raw bell pepper in Iron Chef! LOL
I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.I got curious about the live-action Lupin the Third!
Lol, Amanda Seyfried. Can you imagine Annie going "I can put my whole fist in my mouth. Wanna see?"
Neither Tom Cruise or James Marsden would be good choices for Levi, they're too tall with too "broad" heads and overall doesn't resemble him much. A perfect western actor choice would be Dane Dehaan. Seyfried is a bit too "cute" to play Annie, though I can't really think of someone I'd like to play her. Other than that though, the list is spot on.

Tom Cruise is too tall?
Trailer.
Looks good. Still slightly annoyed they're moving the location to Japan, but America does the same thing all the time, so we can't complain too much if someone pulls it on us.
I wonder how they'll play Mikasa's "last of her people" thing, if at all. Or the Super Saiyackermans for that matter.

And I object to the notion that Tom Cruise is too tall to play Levi. Plus, if you saw him in several of his action films, you'd know how well he could pull off the stuff that Levi does.
Good question. Maybe they can have her family come over from another East Asian country like China or Korea.
Tom Cruise as Levi...holy fuck yes, it's too good to be true...which is why it isn't.
You know, this is one of the mangas that DO need some white people. I liked the white washing in Edge of Tomorrow, really.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Regardless of height, Tom Cruise still doesn't have much "Leviness" to his looks. Again, my two cents are on Dane Dehaan for a close-to-perfect Levi. Arguing this is pointless however, as an American casting is likely never going to happen.
I don't mind the Japanese setting too much as I hope the animation of the Titans is gonna be good and not just look phony and/or way too obviously CGI. I never was much a fan of live action Japanese films as I dont think they quite have the grasp on realistic CGI and acting as America does. The Death Note films for instance were just silly. The trailer does look promising however, so far the Colossal Titan is impressively done.

Well here's a first: The Asylum's doing a Mockbuster for a Japanese film
http://twitchfilm.com/2015/03/mega-shark-bites-attack-on-titan-gallery.html
The new Mega Shark film has him fighting a Humongous Mecha version of the Colossal Titan
Define this "Levi-ness" you are speaking of. And whatever it is, I seriously doubt that he can't either replicate or compensate for.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Clearly Levi can only be accurately portrayed by Tony Shalhoub.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.It still bugs me how the poster shows Hange holding a freaking rocket launcher. I keep thinking, if they can produce those they won't have to use 3DMG. It's so much cheaper in terms of human lives (not that I particularly care about human lives; they are just a rather rare commodity in a low population world). They never seem to have a shortage for cannons and such, so they shouldn't have a problem mass-producing them.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Well, we'll have to think just how effective an RPG is against a Titan that can regenerate. On another thread, someone discussed that an RPG round would feel more like a hot sting than a boom to a Titan.

With a '0', not an 'O'Be funny if they keep Mikasa being the last of her race.
Simple. Just aim at their napes.
I suppose they would still 3DMG to have someone make the titans turn around.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Fair enough, so then the topic shifts to the margin of error when aiming at a Titan's nape at what distance, angle, and so forth.
With a '0', not an 'O'
Japan have more experience at making Live Action versions of animation than Hollywood. And although they are often of low quality they don't universally suck, as far I am aware. I never watched, but a few friends of mine liked the Rurouni Kenshin film (critical reception was apparently good also).
