I went into the first movie expecting nothing and was pleasantly surprised, so I will also expect nothing from the sequel.
All this theorizing about how this movie's gonna do so many different things is only gonna lead to disappointment, especially when we literally know nothing.
The GUN helicopter might just be an easter egg and have no real bearing on the plot; we have no idea what Knuckles's role in the movie is; Metal Sonic, Shadow, and/or Gerald's involvement is complete speculation at this point, etc.

That's why I'm keeping my expectations for the sequel low. I don't expect the sequel to be the perfect movie like some people think.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's Boom Knuckles. Yeah he's a bit taller and broader than Sonic and Tails but only a bit.

I originally thought he didn't have his "Nike logo" on his chest, but it looks like it is there. It's just that it's spray-painted on and the lighting of the photo washed it out a bit. But since it's just a stand-in prop, I'm certain the actual CG model won't have those problems.

I mean, yeah they're just props for the live-action people to work with, but this is most definitely a far cry from the Sonic prop they used in the last movie. That Sonic redesign really saved this movie franchise...
That aside, Holy Tikal, it's Knuckles and he looks really, really great! 
And does anyone else notice/love how remarkable that despite its position as the black sheep (or does that go to the Archie comics?), Sonic Boom still manages to be somewhat influential? First we got Sonic with blue arms (which he never officially had until Boom) and now we have a Knuckles that's bigger and taller than Sonic, albeit it's to a subtle degree that just works for him?
Now I really hope Knuckles is voiced by Jason Momoa. (And also that the voice guys get proper billing in the posters.)

Hmm... I wonder; if Sonic and Knuckles get celebrity voices, does that mean Tails will get recast with one too? Actually, didn't Colleen Villard move on from the role along with Roger Craig Smith recently?
Also, I love the fact that Knuckles still has the weird LEGO things on his shoes.

I just hope that they continue to give Sonic more character like they did in the last movie. He's having to meet one of the people that had a hand in Longclaw's (possible?) death, so if he just accepts Knuckles as he is I'd be very surprised (and disappointed.)

I do wonder who will voice Tails and Knuckles in the sequel? Will Colleen reprise her role as Tails or will she be replaced with a celebrity voice actor? And will Jason Mamoa still voice Knuckles or will they get someone else (hopefully the Rock) to voice Knuckles if Jason Mamoa doesn't take the role?

I really hope they don't pick huge celebrities for Tails and Knuckles, and instead cast either professional voice actors or indie comedians like Ben Schwartz (I mean, I guess Schwartz is pretty famous now but he's still not some A-Lister chosen just for the name).
