He's certainly not the cool and easy going dude he's been portrayed as previously since Adventure.
Or the too cool for school dude with an attitude that American media categorized him as.
I could picture this Sonic evolving into his later characterization, with this movie showing what he was like before he fully became the hero we all know.
One Strip! One Strip!Ah, I remember that. With Knuckles and his Nice Hat.
Ah yes! The OVA movie! I'm actually planning on reviewing that on my You Tube Channel this weekend!

I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!I dunno if we'll ever see the OVA again. The rights kinda got tied up when ADV Films went belly up over a decade ago.
Plus I don't think Paramount will want to drive attention away from their Sonic movies for another. It's kinda like how we never saw a Blu-ray release of the 80s Transformers movie for years because Paramount wouldn't say yes to it.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherParamount doesn't really have any say in what the rights holder does and doesn't reissue. If Sega had the rights and wanted to, they could absolutely reissue the OVA.
And the 80s Transformers movie has had multiple home releases. They even delayed the release of one of them specifically to tie-in to the 2007 movie.
I actually tried to find the Sonic OVA on Amazon. But the only copy they had was one that was for over $100, which I'm not willing to pay for.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!No points for guessing why the prices for it are so high right now.
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherCast replacements are inevitable over a Long Runner's lifespan, but the Sonic franchise had a specific changing of the guard where everyone who wasn't Mike Pollock got the shaft.
Whatever executive thinking went into that decision disgusts me.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I don’t see what’s disgusting about it.
Sure annoyed is a reasonable feeling but disgusted is overkill unless something actually bad was done.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I think they meant the decision to lay off all but one voice actor in one go can come off as "you all put together ain't worth as much as him alone".
That's not what happened, though. They went to recast everybody, Eggman included, Pollock just happened to still have the strongest audition for him over anyone else.
We don't even know if the rest of the 4Kids cast even chose to reaudition.
Ya know I'm genuinely baffled that executives thought that original Sonic design would be well received by general public like transformer and teenage mutant ninja turtles were .-.
Only way that makes sense to me is that to the executives, the TMNT and Transformer movie models looked ugly and stupid in first place, so whats another design like that.(to be fair, they don't look good in either movie yeah :p) Like it kinda sounds like decision made by someone who doesn't like stuff they are imitating
Also checking pictures from internet, I'm genuinely confused why the owl lady or the lizard people concept art look so much better than Sonic's design was What

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I think the main difference was that both Transformers and Ninja Turtles were able to present enough characters in the trailers so that you could see the recurring design scheme (like the Technology Porn of the robot transformations or the Divergent Character Evolution with the Turtles). Whereas here, even in the finished movie, Sonic stands mostly alone and so all we have is this one character to look at. I think most people have said that if they kept the movie the same the original design probably would have been a make-or-break deal.
I just can't understand that argument when Detective Pikachu exists. That movie had Pokemon ass Pokemon and no one questioned how realistic it was.
let's face it there were a lot of pokemon in a movie about pokemon so it was relatively normal,by contrast,Sonic stands out as one the few solely CGI characters in his movie so of course he stands out
New theme music also a boxIn a plot where you explicitly make him an alien, yeah, maybe he should stand out. Or maybe we should stop doing the Alvin and the Chipmunks thing. They didn't have to force a bunch of normal people or a road trip into this.
There were several reviews complaining that DP didn't explain where Pokemon came from.
Pokemon exists from the viewpoint of humans. Sonic always had an uphill battle because humans are downplayed in favor of the animal characters, calling into question the value of a live action adaptation.
I will say, it WAS nice to see people warmly receive the change. Forgiveness? On the internet?

If Knuckles plays a role in the sequel then a great way to establish his troubled past would be to have Robotnik send his army to kill all of his fellow echindas and somehow frame Sonic for their murders. While it's intended to drive a wedge between Sonic and Knuckles as he continues his plan to take over Sonic's World, Robotnik really just kills the tribe because it was fun to him.

"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherYou really want the sequel to go Darker and Edgier, don't you?
About Detective Pikachu not explaining Pokemon, literally everything else explains what they are.
It's been 3000 years…Some idiots can't imagine a world different to their own.
Wake me up at your own risk. Now now, just because they want a grim dork sonic movie doesn't make them an idiot
New theme music also a box
Hes so floof
A huge upgrade from his horrible original design
