People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.
Please observe the usual rules about posting ettiquette and note that this is in On-Topic Conversations.
To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.) http://news.yahoo.com/maria-von-trapp-99-dies-vermont-005546425.html
2023 mod note:
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.
This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens dead at age 99:
Stevens died in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., of complications from a stroke he suffered on Monday, according to a press release.
For 35 years, Stevens’ trademark bow tie and gentle mien belied a competitive edge that turned up in his opinions and dissents, most often defending the rights of individuals against the government.
Stevens’ brand of conservatism – a term he insisted still applied until his retirement in 2010 – all but disappeared during his long and distinguished career. He was a proud veteran of World War II and a code-breaker who went on to become a corruption-buster in his native Chicago. President Gerald Ford not only nominated him in 1975 but proudly defended him 30 years later in a letter to USA TODAY.
“I am prepared to allow history’s judgment of my term in office to rest (if necessary, exclusively) on my nomination thirty years ago of Justice John Paul Stevens to the U.S. Supreme Court,” Ford wrote a year before his death.
I posted this in the Racism thread, but I'll mention it here as well:
Apparently the suspect is a tenant of the victim's who owed her $1,200 in rent.

Which eerily enough takes place in the distant future of 2019.
Just yesterday I was thinking up story ideas for two random people from an alternate Earth discussing pop culture in their timeline, and one of the most persistent ideas involved Rutger Hauer. I remembered musing about if that sort of thing would wind up being dated if Hauer died soon... and then thinking that Hauer wasn't that old and he'd be around for a few more years (and my reasoning didn't make much sense anyways, so whatever).
Funny how these things happen.
Sleep well, old man. :(
but HOW?RIP

- After a decade, she's with Wayne now.
- She voiced Martin Prince?
- Does that mean that Martin would be killed off like what they did to Mrs. Krabappel, or be put in the sidelines like the characters that Phil Hartman voiced?
Martin Prince would most likely either be sidelined like you said or voiced by someone else
