People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.

To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.)

This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

Regardless of your knowledge of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama without a doubt created a cultural phenomenon and touchstone that people will always remember and adore. God rest to him too.

A friend took his own life back in 2017 when he was 23. He would've been 30 almost two weeks ago. I visited his grave his past weekend since every year I always prefer to go closer to his birthday instead of his passing which was a little more than a month after.
Thomas Deffenbaugh, co-founder of Summit Music Center, succumbed to cancer last week at age 57.
Biraj Adhikari, Indian Sikkimese politician, died over a week ago at age 62.
David E. Harris, first Black pilot of a commercial airline, died last week at age 89.
Guy Touvron, French trumpet player, died last week at age 74.
Lewis Jones, Welsh Rugby player, died almost two weeks ago at age 92.
Karl Wallinger, Welsh musician, songwriter and record producer, died almost a week ago at age 66.
