People die every day. Some of them are famous, some important, many newsworthy. This thread is for announcements of deaths in the news, discussions of the legacy of those recently deceased people, and memorials of same.
Please observe the usual rules about posting ettiquette and note that this is in On-Topic Conversations.
To start with, the last of the original Von Trapp Singers has died, Maria Von Trapp, 99, in Vermont. (This is the daughter of Captain Von Trapp, not her stepmother who was also named Maria. In the musical, they called her Louisa.) http://news.yahoo.com/maria-von-trapp-99-dies-vermont-005546425.html
2023 mod note:
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.
This doesn't mean that you can't discuss their life or legacy, or express an opinion as to whether they escaped justice for their actions. But if that starts to become a longer conversation, there are other OTC threads that may be more appropriate.

Claudia Rosett, reporter from Tiananmen Square, died five days ago at age 67.
Don Bateman, champion of airline safety, died a week-and-a-half ago at age 91.
Not a major figure but important to me personally:
Puppers, a Dead by Daylight streamer I like and who was one of the first Twitch streamers I discovered (as opposed to Youtuber) passed away today after fighting ALS for the past few years

He kept going long as he could. Using foot pedal controls when he could no longer fully use his hands, and having a co-host do the playing when he could no longer do that.
If interested, here's a compilation of clips assembled for a charity event held for him.

Oh wow. Sorry to hear that. That's sad, what a horrible disease.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI’m well and truly sorry to hear that. My deepest condolences to their family. One of my wishes is that there’ll eventually be a cure for every disease known (and unknown) on this planet.

Sorry to hear that. May he rest in peace.
Rafa Hernandez, Argentine radio host known for his work in the Radio Nacional station and being the voice of the Magic Kids channel from 1995 to 2006, passed away last Tuesday, May the 30th, of a heart attack.
Just a simple man, making my way through the Tropes.x2 I've said this before but I really hope something comes of the MRNA research that came about from COVID. If we could apply that same approach that we did for the COVID vaccines to other diseases, there's hope.
Anyway, never even heard of this streamer but it doesn't seem like he was very old, correct? Always tragic to lose someone to ALS, but especially if they're still relatively young.
Ouch. Magic Kids was one of my favorite cable networks back in the day (I got to see many series like Slayers, Yamazaki, Koni-chan, and original productions like Kito Pizza and Nivel X). My condolences to Rafa's family and friends, as well as those of Puppers.
135 - 169 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I didnt know My Final Edits was South American. And god did I love Magic Kids. It was so awesome. RIP Rafa.
