Nickelodeon in General

Considering her age, it is hardly problematic. Also, she is just one person. Saving a few animals really isn't going to upset the ecological balance.

It's more of how the lesson can be a bit hypocritical on "let nature runs its course" but then you got a kid trying to go against it.

I do enjoy the more grounded, pseudo-slice of life episodes like when they ended up in a wolf conservation and it was mostly a predatory misunderstanding.

So I decided to give the Big Nate series Nickelodeon made a watch.

I'm actually enjoying it so far, I'm surprised it was getting hate with the early clips put out. The animation is really fun and the humor is great. I was kind of familiar with the original comic strip and the books (I read some of them in middle school but I never got super into them, that was more my brother's thing) and the show does a good job translating Lincoln Peirce's art with a little goofy flair.

Apparently, Lincoln Peirce actually worked on some shorts for Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network at one point. Interesting little factoid.

So I’m currently watching My Life As A Teenage Robot.

It’s such a good show. Shame that Nick screwed it over.

That's the one, I never watched it, but I saw it pop up once in a while. Always struck me as more of a girl's show.

Love MLAATR, one of my favorite Nicktoons.

And truthfully, it feels more gender-neutral to me. Female protag =/= female-only audience, and I can see many elements of the show that appeal to boys. A lot of kids’ cartoon with Action Girl protags tend to be like that. Girl-oriented shows tend to be more “girly”, if that makes any sense. Y’know, something like most incarnations of My Little Pony.

I'm not saying it was a fair assessment, mind you, just that it was the assessment I made at the time. I'm not entirely sure why it didn't appeal to me, when I did like The Powerpuff Girls and Totally Spies just fine.

Part of why I love MLAATR is because it reminds me of the original PPG.

Really? Maybe I should give it a watch now.

Unless we're defining a "girls show" as a series where the main protagonist is female, it really isn't stereotypically "girly" or anything (and there's nothing wrong with it if there even was). Creator Rob Renzetti worked on Powerpuff Girls and other shows, so there's some of that DNA mixed in there, but also lots of old-fashioned anime influence...and I mean *OLD*, I don't mean 90's shonen. A lot of the designs give me an Osamu Tezuka vibe.

Nowadays though, the show is pretty popular with transgender people because Jenny has become a trans icon. Which is nice.

Teenage Robot is easily one of my favorite cartoons of all time, let alone Nicktoons. Jenny is just the best.

I like My Life As A Teenage Robot and It has really cool and cute moments but also REALLY LOW LOWS.

It has lows akin to most 2000's-era cartoons, nothing is perfect.

In this case, that low is mostly Sheldon.

Yeah, but I dont mean just him. I mean like the insanely mean Christmas episode. But you are right, everything has lows and highs,

Jenny is a very great protagonist. She’s alongside Aang and Arnold for best Nick protagonist. I find her to be a very likable character and I can see the parallels that others have made to her struggles matching that of trans people and I think that’s nice.

I like how she wishes for robots to be seen as people and not just machines. Like in the episode where she frees the robots at the amusement park, which also has her give Tuck a Death Glare when he calls them “dumb machines”.

And they do a DAMN good job making you feel sad when others tell her that she’s a freak and she cries. Like in that Christmas episode.

Speaking of, why did Dr. Wakeman believe that Jenny wasn’t mind controlled? You’d think she of all people would try to see if her daughter was mind controlled.

Well, again, that was when I was 10 or so, and I was hardly rating cartoons in an objective and fact based manner (what kid would, really?).

Nick doesn't seem to be done with the crossover train. After teaming up with SMITE to release characters from Avatar and TMNT, they're just throwing in regular Nicktoons to fight gods.

Jenny Wakeman, Rocko, Danny Phantom, Powdered Toast Man, and Invader Zim are coming as playable characters in the free to play MOBA. They'll release on July 12.

Just to be clear, the Nick characters are coming to Smite as skins for already existing characters. That said, Smite and Nicktoons is a crossover I'd never thought would ever be an actual thing, although Zeus getting slimed is gold.

Zeus got slimed, serves him right.

I'm just wondering, has The Angry Beavers showed up in the Nicktoons Unite game yet?

They're Master Models in Attack of the Toybots (Daggett in the DS and console versions and Norbert in the GBA version), but they've never been playable characters.

Do you think they will be playable characters soon?

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3 has been announced for this fall, and will include over 40 playable characters with voice acting.

Damn, that's stepping up your game from the last two.

(Here's hoping All-Star Brawl gets the same treatment in time)

NASB did finally get voice-acting added last month, for the record. Game feels a lot more alive now.

But, anyway, man they seem pretty ambitious with Racers 3 to be rebuilding the game from the ground up and with that many characters and tracks. And all with voice-acting, too. Nick must finally see the value in having the characters be voiced right out of the gate now.

Oh, gotcha.
